Greta Thunberg - brave campaigner or deeply disturbed?

The paperback book is 'No-one is too small to make a difference'.

Dear Reader, I bought it.

That's the one I told you about.

It's her speeches. She's 16 and hasn't made that many. That's why it's thin.

Miss Thunberg seems to be an inspiration to my nieces (aged between 12 and 18), two of them cut school to join anti GW events as a result, their teachers officially said don't do it but unofficially cheered them, their parents (my two sisters) are really happy about that.

I think it makes no difference if her actions fail to change any minds among other age groups.

I think I approve of what's being referred to as pushy parenting as well. Mostly or almost completely it is net beneficial I suspect.

https://www.theguardian.com/environ...g-climate-change-fight-germany-hambach-forest

Greta Thunberg started her long journey to climate summits in the Americas by joining a treetop protest in Germany’s Hambach forest, where environmentalists have been fighting for years to stop the ancient woodland being torn up for open-cast coal mining.

The battle to save the last remaining oak and hornbeam trees reflects the young activist’s entwined fights to protect the natural world from human exploitation and to halt carbon emissions.

Environmental activists fighting to save a forest that is being destroyed because of increased coal usage because environmental activists have shut down nuclear plants is the real circle of life.

Wut? This thread is about Greta Thunberg, not your imagination.

So, Greta has set sail to the USA from Plymouth today in an eco-friendly boat. No frills, solar and wind power and a bucket for the loo. It'll take her two weeks.

She'll get a lot of media attention on arrival for sure.

Isn't that the goal of any activist?

Yes, because everything campaigners against global warming do is by definition wrong. Fly to America? You're hypocritically contributing to the very thing you're campaigning against. Take a boat to America, thus not doing the above? Obviously a publicity stunt. Don't go to America at all? Rudely declining an invitation. Viewed through a lens of hatred, everything is indefensible.

Isn't that a bit extreme? Surely it is possible to be sceptical about global warming without being a 'hater'?

Well, one could also be an absolute ******* idiot. Those are the two options, really.

I don't personally care what you believe about global warming; feel free to be as tragically wrong as you please. It's the sarcastic denigration of someone who is simply doing all she can to make the world a better place despite a very real fear that she will fail that speaks of petty, thoughtless hatred.

When skepticism about global warming takes the form of personal mockery of activists, then "hater" becomes an acceptable characterization of that situation.

The haters sure are doing their part.

Pro-Brexit cockwomble Aaron banks claims "bants" for referring to the potential of Thunberg suffering a "freak yachting accident."

BBC News: Greta Thunberg - Caroline Lucas reports Arron Banks to Twitter

"Green Party MP Caroline Lucas has complained to Twitter over a tweet by Brexit campaigner Arron Banks aimed at climate change activist Greta Thunberg.

On Wednesday, Mr Banks referred to Ms Thunberg's sea voyage across the Atlantic and tweeted: "Freak yachting accidents do happen in August..."

Ms Thunberg, who chooses not to fly, is sailing from the UK to attend UN climate summits in New York and Chile.

Ms Lucas said she reported his comment, while Mr Banks said it was a joke."

His defense is that he finds the death of a 16 year old girl funny. Yeah, I'm not sure that's better. Twitter should deplatform him.
