The Trump Presidency 15

Remember Trump's famous Canada/Mexico/U.S. trade deal? Remember those steel and aluminium tariffs that Trump had initially instituted before cancelling them?

Neither do I.

From: https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/buy-america-trump-rules-1.5212420
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday demanding that 75 per cent of the value of any components in "Made in America" products must to be sourced in the U.S. That's an increase from 50 per cent previously. And, in a fresh blow to Canada's steel industry, he has demanded that 95 per cent of steel and iron used in any public contract must be from the U.S.

You would figure that given the recent trade agreement, that Canada and Mexico wouldn't have to deal with those types of restrictions anymore. So, why would anyone trust Trump or the republicans with any deal in the future?

One could describe her loyalty to the contract and the effort she goes to defend the president as a strong character trait and demonstrates initiative.

Not really. What one with actual character should say that it is irresponsible and despicable to sell your character out for a characterless individual. Because that's exactly what it is.

And others would say it is the height of responsibility to make that sacrifice. I'm not sure it can be resolved.

Yes, but he beheaded people for disagreeing with him and was known for switching alliances on a dime and frequently ranting about loyalty. He also enjoyed the 1500s version of KFC and Big Macs. I don't know what his hair was like. Maybe the hair reincarnated from someplace else.
He was also a little bit rude in his dealings with women, I hear.

Sorry, "dark underbelly" is the smoking gun?

Anyway, I've not pretended she isn't a racist. I said a particular exchange wasn't evidence of racism.

In a discussion about the president's statements, how does the ethnicity of the questioner have any validity? It's literally not about the reporter but the POTUS. I was careful with my choice of words, that Conway was playing the race card.

My scandal threshold must be too high. To me that tweet sounded like a thousand other unacceptable remarks he's made. The thing that a federal judge might not rule fairly because he's "Mexican." I think he might have said "a Mexican" which sounds even worse to my ear.

To me his apparent conviction that legislators have no right to criticize the government is just as bad as the racism.

Since there's no chance of Congress doing the right thing by starting impeachment hearings, the #1 priority has to be finding ways to convince people that he shouldn't get their votes. Those ways have to be simple.

Making clear every day that he is a virulent racist (which he absolutely is) will be simple. Shaving off a couple percentage points' worth of his previous voters, the ones who have enough decency not to vote for someone who proves over and over how deep his disgusting racism runs, well, it could be the difference in 2020.

I don't think the Powers That Be in the GOP wanted Trump to get the nomination to be honest;but once he did they though they could control him. They were wrong. Reminds me of the German Conservatives who though tthey could control Adolf Hitler and made him Chancellor.

Agreed. We heard Lindsey Graham say Trump was a "race-baiting xenophobic bigot" in 2015. I guess Trump stopped being a "race-baiting xenophobic bigot" since then.

Or, Lindsey is such a whore that you can't believe a word that's ever come out of his mouth. This ****** was at risk of being primaried in '14 by the Tea Party! Now he's trying to make Robert Welch look like a moderate.

Has Trump's crib notes for a press conference after his racist attack on AOC et al been posted yet?

@realDonaldTrump notes today on @AOC and @IlhanMN flipped and rotated #for your viewing pleasure.

Grammar grade of 'F' given so we can see it was Trump's own notes.

Alcaida? Is that Al Caida from the 54th Street Deli? That's where Donnie and his disgusting spawn order their covfefe and hamberders during their all-night Let's Sell The Country to The Highest Bidder family meetings.

You just gave a greater reason to have excised that group.

"You know that group you were glad that left? They are even worse. Doesn't that make you wish they stayed?"

Yeah, and about the slaves who are stuck in slavery under the Confederacy? Glad they're gone as well?

BBC article published today which does a brief vox pop on attitudes towards President Trump's racist comments and tweets.

Amazingly enough those who think that President Trump's tweets were not racist are white.

Douglas Grimes, a firefighter, says: "I think he's a straight shooter, and I don't think the public takes that very well. He's getting things done, I do support him

John Hunter, who's recently retired, agrees, saying that people overreacted to the president's comments about the four lawmakers. For his part, Hunter says that he is concerned about the president's "performance" and not his tweets. "That's his style," Hunter says, describing the president's remarks on social media. "He's not a racist."

There are many white people who think that the President's tweets and comments are beyond the pale but they were almost certainly already critical of the President.

OTOH those who lean GOP don't think there were any racist comments and/or like his straight-talking :(

IMO this whole thing will turn out to be a net vote winner for President Trump. Brown non-Christian women are a big turnoff for the white working class, evangelicals and middle-aged white people.

To think that Hillary called some people deplorable once. :jaw-dropp

I think it's time to assume that people who claim that Dolt 45 hasn't said anything racist are simply lying. They know that he's a white nationalist, they are as well, and they simply don't have the courage to say so out loud.

It seems to be the opposite people that were in denial before are just now starting to say "Wait a minute, he's telling these nonwhite women from the US to go back where they came from. That's kinda racist!" News outlets seem to be abandoning the asinine phrases they often use, like "racially charged" or "controversial", and just saying flat-out "racist". These folks are very late to the party - anyone who was paying attention should have been saying this when he was pushing Birtherism, and only a few journalists are stating the fact that he sounds like David Duke, or one of those buffoons you see on cell phone videos screeching at Hispanic people for speaking to each other in Spanish.

Still, the racists, again, know that he represents and advances their own hatred and fear, so they've already been voting for them. People who believe that are against white supremacism have been against him from jump. It's the group I'm describing above that will likely say "Ugh, I'm not voting for this guy again!", particularly if media keeps it up and start treating him like the dangerous, hateful demagogue that he is rather than that wacky rich guy who we all love so much and oh no Hillary's email server!
