The Trump Presidency 14

This is what I don't get.
I'm pretty sure that if any other (aka ordinary) person did that they would never have got clearance after the first "forgetful" moment, let alone multiple ones.

Actually, I lie. I do get it, but consider it something of a flaw with the system.

he didn't get the clearance - Trump decreed that he is allowed to look into the classified stuff on the Daily Briefings without going through the process.

His security clearance was denied, but then Trump ordered his chief of staff to grant him clearance anyway.

President Trump ordered his chief of staff to grant his son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, a top-secret security clearance last year, overruling concerns flagged by intelligence officials and the White House’s top lawyer, four people briefed on the matter said.

Yes, I know. It's the failing fake news New York Times, so it isn't reliable. :D

Trump Tweets

The Fake News has never been more dishonest than it is today. Thank goodness we can fight back on Social Media. Their new weapon of choice is Fake Polling, sometimes referred to as Suppression Polls (they suppress the numbers). Had it in 2016, but this is worse.....

.....The Fake (Corrupt) News Media said they had a leak into polling done by my campaign which, by the way and despite the phony and never ending Witch Hunt, are the best numbers WE have ever had. They reported Fake numbers that they made up & don’t even exist. WE WILL WIN AGAIN!

Not that you'd necessarily disagree, but it's precisely that we can't know if the deal was because of his office that Kushner's situation is a problem.

I said that in post 3012

There is a logical reason for criminalizing the appearance of corruption. It is very difficult to identify corrupt intent, so it is easy to ban both.

And the rather exclusive group that Donald J. Trump and I belong to.... "Our Great Patriot Draft Dodgers".

Be very suspicious when puppet masters call you a Great Patriot Anything. They're playing up the "give up a lot for your country" angle. In Trumpspeak calling someone or some group "Great Patriot XXXXX" means "we just bent you over a stool and had our way with you, thanks for your service".

And with luck and pluck you leave them with a case of the foul Black Syphilis!!!:jaw-dropp:jaw-dropp:jaw-dropp:jaw-dropp

Other than the fact that he had to keep redoing his application because they found out he had lied on it. And then he was turned down for a security clearance but the Cheesy Wotsit in Chief overruled the decision.

You don't know the reason he omitted it was because he was lying. It could be forgetfulness, laziness, disfain, etv

That's the flaw I was talking about.

I could be wrong, but I can't see that happening here.
Yeah, the PM has to get clearance (I presume), but not any old mate of theirs just because they say so.

It's just a bizarre way to handle security.

ETA: Just to clarify, I mean our PM automatically gets clearance, not that they have to apply...

Maybe he constantly shifts between alternate realities without realizing it, and each application was filled out by a different version of him, each one telling the truth as it was in his native reality.

Stop being so intentionally obtuse.

If a person so forgetful, lazy, etc. that they have to submit the same security paperwork several times in order to get one version that passes muster, then such a person is clearly a poor security risk.

The question as to what we would do if "we" as a populace elected a person (or elected a person who appointed a person or some variation on that same theme) and that person didn't meet some "requirement" of the job is a... sort of interesting one.

I mean in the US Constitution it says a President has to be 35 years old. Let's say we have an election and the candidate who wins the popular vote or the Electoral college is.... 33.

I mean sure technically qualify and he/she would get the job... but that's a big ass elephant in the room and I don't see it making the populace happy.

But this is all just vaguely interesting "what ifing" and has nothing to do with Trump stacking his Yesman club with unqualified doofuses.

Moving the goalposts. If the original claim was that Kushner shouldn't have a clearance, I wouldn't comment.

There's no goalpost if you're always going to hide behind "not having a claim" or "not making an argument" as if that means anything or makes any sense at all.

The claim being challenged was that Kushner lied on his security posts. In that same argument to change it to Kushner is not qualified is to move the goalposts.

As for "moving the goalposts", I do not know what you are talking about.

As for "I wouldn't comment", no one has any way telling in advance as to what you will comment on or not comment on.
