...China will be hurt very badly if you don’t make a deal because companies will be forced to leave China for other countries. ...
This is just as stupid as his constant claims the NYT and WA Po are failing.

I assume it must be a message solely for Trump fantasizers.

“This has been proven recently when only 4 points were paid by the U.S., 21 points by China because China subsidizes product to such a large degree.”

Can anyone tell me what “points” he might be referring to?

I was thinking the same thing.

The closest thing I could find is:

"The UCAS Tariff (formerly called UCAS Points System) is used to allocate points to post-16 qualifications. Universities and colleges may use it when making offers to applicants. A points total is achieved by converting qualifications such as A levels (and many others) into points, making it simpler for course providers to compare applicants. It is used as a means of giving students from the United Kingdom places at UK universities."

Edit to add: And the point you make about the cost of parts/components/materials also plays an important role for these manufacturing companies. Maybe they'll be able to source their components from some company in the US, but at a much higher price... which of course trickles down to the consumer. Chances are they'll just continue to buy their products from China because it will still be cheaper.

The bottom line is, everyone will feel the pain of Trump economics. From the raw material supplier, to the component manufacturer, to the shipper, to the end product manufacturer, to the store, to the consumer. All the way down the line.

If you force trade deficits to go away via tariffs etc, you are also forcing investment out because Balance of Payments is zero sum. In the case of the US, there is a trade and Current Account deficit resulting from the trade deficit and a Capital Account surplus meaning there is more investment $ flowing into the US then out. Because BoP is zero sum, these two must balance.

IOW the trade deficit can only go away if the investment surplus does, (and vice-versa). Therefor, if you were to force the trade deficit away with tariffs, you are also forcing away the investment surplus, AKA driving investment out of the US.

In all likelihood this just means that attempts to make the trade deficit go away with tariffs will simply fail. If they actually succeed, however, it comes at the cost of driving out investment.

My Administration will be fighting for $200 million for the Army Corps Everglades restoration work this year. Congress needs to help us complete the world’s largest intergovernmental watershed restoration project ASAP! Good for Florida and good for the environment.

We must protect our Great Lakes, keeping them clean and beautiful for future generations. That’s why I am fighting for $300 million in my updated budget for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

Yeah, he's so concerned:

President Trump moved yesterday to weaken the federal Clean Water Act by redefining the Obama administration’s Waters of the US rule, known as WOTUS, to eliminate protections for much of the nation’s waterways – a majority, in some estimates.

He's also been messing with the Boundry Waters up in Minnesota. Something about the Copper mining. We've all been trying to keep them from destroying everything but there's nothing he says that isn't contradicted by something an hour or two before.

Again, he's a dumbass. A literal dumbass.

Under my Administration, we are restoring @NASA to greatness and we are going back to the Moon, then Mars. I am updating my budget to include an additional $1.6 billion so that we can return to Space in a BIG WAY!

Today, I officially updated my budget to include $18 million for our GREAT @SpecialOlympics, whose athletes inspire us and make our Nation so PROUD!

Regarding the 'Special Olympics' Does he get credit for re-funding a program that he defunded and was going to be passed by Congress no matter what he wanted?

First of all, does anyone know if that $1.6 billion is new funding, or just a failure to cut as much as he had been planning?

Secondly... NASA's budget in 2019 was ~$21.5 billion. While obviously more funding is better than less, the $1.6 billion is only about a ~7% increase. And since inflation is also a thing, the increase is closer to 5%. That doesn't seem to be enough to "return to space in a big way". (By comparison, that wouldn't even be enough to fund the Mars 2020 rover.)

Food for thought: If Trump loses in 2020, the Republican establishment can still make him President. The argument here is that the Constitution allows the states to decide for themselves how to allocate electors. Nothing requires that they honor the popular vote. Republican-controlled states could pass laws that allow them to appoint Trumpers as electors. They could even claim that election "irregularities" make the popular vote totals unreliable, and they are just fulfilling the will of the people. Nightmare.

No federal law requires it, but many states have laws requiring it.

ETA
They are called faithless electors.

Because it adds to 25, I assumed that he was talking about percentage points of a particular tariff - asserting that the US paid an extra 4% and China paid the remaining 21%. Of course, that contradicts his position for the past several months, namely that China is paying the entire 25% tariff.

On the other hand, I’ve never studied Trump-math, so I could be completely wrong. (I suspect the rules of Trump-math are similar to the rules for Calvin-ball).

ETA i.e. the titular character can make the rules be whatever he wants them to be. They change on the fly and can be simultaneously contradictory if it favors the game’s inventor.

It's magic! That socialism in China sucks money out of Capitalism! You can't even figure out where the money goes! Except the dollars. They go into Trump's pocket.

His tweets only make sense if they are individually composed and sent by different people who have not consulted with each other about their relative contents. Otherwise, if it is only just Donny's tiny orange digits, he is so high he is orbiting ******* Saturn.
