Obama tried to do something, but McConnell threatened to say he was interfering in the election if he told the public about how Russia was helping Trump.
And the IC under Obama did shout out about the danger, but it wasn't entertaining enough for the media.

It's "finished" in the sense that she never had any to begin with, but I don't think Trump supporters are going to hold it against her.

Again my disclaimer, I do not expect press secretaries, or whatever her title is, to have credibility.

It would be more fun to needle her more subtly by working the word "countless" into as many questions as possible.

But the thing is, you have to assume these people have credibility to begin with. Otherwise, what the hell is the point of these press conferences then?

Press conferences aren't for the purpose of playing Game of Thrones. It's purpose is supposed to be to serve the american citizens in keeping them informed of events happening with the government they elected.

If what the american people are being told is questionable and cannot be trusted as the truth (at least to some degree), then you guys might as close the doors and never bother with these press conferences ever again.

Having read the report and some of the analysis...

1. I think Trump should step down. It’s clear that he tried to obstruct. I think the House should impeach and I think the Senate should then remove him from office. Won’t happen, but it’s what should happen.

2. The Russian efforts to interfere began during Obama’s term. His Administration didn’t do much about it and I find it odd that nobody is talking about that.
3. American politics is fundamentally broken. I have no idea how to fix it, but I think impeachment is a good start.

My impression is that Obama wanted to go public with the information, but McConnell refuse to cooperate, saying that he would spin it as Obama trying to get a partisan advantage for Clinton.

The problem is partisanship means impeaching the president will kill Pence and others ability to win elections. That is a heck of a cost. One option would be for democrats to remove the cost of impeachment by agreeing to let pence and specific senators run unopposed.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Of course impeaching Trump stands a chance of hurting Pence's, and others' associated with Trump, chance of winning elections. That's the way it should be: If you've demonstrated that you would aid and abet someone with no respect for the Constitution and general standards of decency, you don't deserve to be in public office. It would be asinine to say, "We're going to impeach Trump, but all of you that enabled Trump, we're going to pave the way to keep you in positions of power".

Tainting the sycophants that enabled the corruption through the impeachment process is a feature, not a bug.

Are you certain she's the first White House Press Secretary to ever embellish on the truth when speaking to reporters? Indeed?

Chris B.

"Embellish the truth"? Nice double speak for "lie".

When other press secretaries were caught in lies it hurt their credibility, too, but sure, we should make an exception this time: Don't want to hurt Team Trump, after all.

That is a good question.

Eh, that's quite a stretch. There are some agencies I hope I'm getting straight information from, but I don't have that expectation with the White House.

I don't think we'd be missing much if White House press briefings were eliminated. I could be wrong.

trump Tweets

.... a big, fat, waste of time, energy and money - $30,000,000 to be exact. It is now finally time to turn the tables and bring justice to some very sick and dangerous people who have committed very serious crimes, perhaps even Spying or Treason. This should never happen again!

Trump Tweets

The Washington Post and New York Times are, in my opinion, two of the most dishonest media outlets around. Truly, the Enemy of the People!

This is why nobody but the @DNC circle jerk takes this seriously anymore. That front page is a disgrace but in its disgrace, many wake up. Thank God for @realDonaldTrump for waking millions of Americans up to the truth about the @washingtonpost

Is it too much to ask you to hold others who have held the same position to the same standard as Sanders? It's not breaking news that any White House Press Secretary lies, or is this news to you?

I think we're going to find out what Obama tried to do in great detail.

I agree.

If truth coming out of the white house is a tough thing for them to practice on any given day, then these press briefings are a waste of time and more importantly, a waste of taxpayer money.

No, of course it's not too much to ask. Where did I even hint or suggest it should be otherwise? Other people (generally) lose credibility when caught in lies (I say generally because Trump). HuckSand should be held to the same standard. Once you get past my sarcasm that's pretty much what I just previously posted. It looks to me like you're the one with the double standard who thinks we should let Sarah slide this time, because Trump.

It is a bug. The non enablers are the most in jeopardy. The same party senators most likely you could flip during an impeachment are moderates. But these moderates are more likely to be in competitive states. An impeachment screws over people you need.

Kevin Cramer loves trump and would keep his job if trump got impeached and removed.

But the Toomeys of the world are going to be voted out by their state's democratic voters if impeachment happens and they take the Democrat side or not. That makes trying to convince moderate senators much harder.
