If a kid is missing 60-80 school days a year, I kinda feel like the problem is the parents and the school, not the kid.

My thoughts too.

If the kid has sickle cell anemia and misses school because she's in hospital, then the problem is indeed with the kid, and not the parents.

Yeah and in that situation there would be doctors to let the school know what is up. I mean when I missed almost two months with pneumonia my school knew what was going on.

IMV, they need to choose or have someone else do it for them.I strongly believe that people should be able to make a decent income, I'm highly skeptical about this idea though. There are though thousand of works that need to be done.
Think what an increase in the minimum wage and a serious public investment in infrastructure could do for this country.

Not only is it what we need, it's a much easier sell than a UBI which risks a Trump re-election.

Give it up angrysoba, stop cherry picking my comments.

Huh? Where am I cherry-picking comments? I asked you for evidence for your claims and you posted a bunch of articles you didn't read. Then when called on it you pretended that you were trying to post opinions on both sides. You still haven't shown any evidence that your opinion is based on anything but a knee-jerk reaction. I'm not expecting that to change so I won't ask you for anything more on the topic - I will clearly not received any illumination from you about it.

There are multiple opinions about a UBI. It is not new. The idea has been around for decades.

Very profound! Who didn't know this?

Yang does not have magical answers.

You remind me of the Bernie Bros in 2016, believing in an idealistic government as if it were all new ideas.

How interesting! You clearly know very little here. Andrew Yang's whole point is that government is not idealistic. It's good at writing checks though. Again, you just need to actually read his opinions on this.

Pure socialism just like claiming the free market is some magical system are naive beliefs.

This is not pure socialism. And seriously, I would say that you are almost in Tucker Carlson territory the way you sling the word "soshalizm" around except that would be an insult to Tucker Carlson.

The thing which works the best is a mix. What we need is to get rid of the cronyism and corruption which sadly, Trump accelerated exponentially. Going for magical socialism gives the GOP fear-mongering talking points which they are very good at using and the Democrats are very bad at countering.

Shall we start drinking whenever you say "magical socialism" or are you doing that for us?

Sanders, Yang, Warren and the like are very attractive candidates to a certain group of people. But that group, as wonderful as it looks, cannot get the middle voters. Given how good the GOP is at marketing their candidates, it will doom us to 4 more years of Trump.

I don't expect Yang to have a chance of winning. I think the ideas need to put out there and debated. That's all.

Well let's discuss it.

Investment in infrastructure. Do you have a problem with that?

Increase in the minimum wage? What are your issues with that?

Let’s see... there are a bunch of opinions on it. It’s not a new idea. It’s magical socialism. The companies will leave town. Sounds like something the Bernie Bros would do. The GOP will have a field day. OMG do you like totally want Donald Trump to win? Wait while I post a random bunch of links that I don’t read.

Did I leave anything out?

At this point, Yang is my favorite candidate, and I would love to see as much of his program become part of the Democratic platform as possible.

However, his "Freedom Dividend", like all forms of UBI, don't work on their own in my opinion: there are people who can take care of themselves, given above-subsistence level income, and then there are some who can't even with ten times that amount.
A basic income would not full replace a social safety net.

Wait, isn't Yang the guy that the Nazis like for reasons that escape me?

My brother likes him too but he is rather busy building a life in Vietnam to be much involved in our protracted spiral into irrelevancy.

Yeah, for some reasons some nazi-nerds think he'll save the White Race, but it takes some Q-level mindtwist to come that conclusion, like seeing Mueller indicting Manafort as proof that Clinton will be sent to Guantanamo.

"Shayla frequently missed school because she was in too much pain to leave the house or was hospitalized for long-term care. Her school was aware of these circumstances; it had records on file from the regional children’s hospital explaining that Shayla’s condition would necessitate unpredictable absences and special educational accommodations. Peoples and the school had worked together to set up some of those accommodations, which are required under federal disability law."

I think the UBI is impossible to sell. It's an interesting idea, but it looks way to much like a handout, not to mention budget busting,

As best I can tell, the school knew what was going on and was basically okay with it, but they didn't have a way to report the absences without triggering the truancy laws.

Can't it just be tax breaks? I don't see the sense in them giving us money then we have to give some of it back. Save time and effort.

Mayor Pete just made me sick.

He just said that "his marriage has moved me closer to God". Nothing makes me puke about politics more than politicians invoking the imaginary being. Now he's not any different than others of his tribe. Pretty much every politician who wants to be elected whether they believe it or not does this.

Because as we all know, you can be anything other than an intelligent human being who doesn't believe in nonsensical mythological deity.

We'll have a gay transgender Muslim president before an open atheist stands a chance.

At least if they believed in a cool nonsensical mythological deity, like Zeus, it'd be more acceptable.
