Katherine Harris stumbeled with her missing a vote on a aid package for California in order to campaign. That is the kind of crap that make people cynical about politicians.

I've often wondered why representatives need to be in the room to cast a vote. This is 2019 not 1819. Why can't a congressional representative vote be made on the road?

Because "Procedural Compliance" is too good a tool for either side to give up.

It's why we still have a codified "Just talking until the other side gives up before their bladder bursts" rule.

Because no valid mechanism exists to do that.

And to be clear: Representatives always had the practical ability to mail in their votes. With the advent of the telegraph, they could even have done it in near real time. Floor debate in the morning, staffers send telegrams to home districts at noon, and legislators send back their votes after lunch.

Personally, I like the requirement that legislators actually have to show up to be counted.

You're acting as if one can't be made.

I don't. It seems silly to me. There is little reason to deny a district's representation.

What I'm probably most concerned about is Democrats cutting off their noses to spite their own faces. To eliminate someone who can run Trump out of office over the inconsequential.

It's one thing to say you'd rather support someone else because you think they are more electable or you like their policy positions. I respect that. I support that. But if we're going to destroy every one of our candidates over irrelevancies like this, we'll have no chance next year.
Again, creepy is not inconsequential. And you don't know if Biden can beat Trump. The Bernie Bros can't be sure Bernie will beat Trump either.

That makes no sense. California's one of the ten largest economies in the world. By any measure, it's pretty much a first-world country in its own right. It's also rich in natural resources, and filled with a diverse people. It even has a huge immigrant population, and immigrants are what make a country strong. Wildfires be damned; California should be sending aid packages, not receiving them.

Though, it turns out that throughout history most famines have been due to corruption or mismanagement, not lack of funds or resources. Maybe wildfires are the same way. Still not sure why an aid package would be needed. Maybe the rest of the Union needs to stage an intervention, and talk to California about pulling its own weight.
I don't think you realize just how bad the fires were.

Besides, you could say the same about half the states that get disaster aid.

"Creepy"? You act as if Biden is Pennywise or some pedophile in the park after your children. By using that word you're playing into the Republicans game. So, he's a tactile person? That doesn't make him "creepy"

I think Biden can beat Trump. I don't believe Bernie can. But, hey I could be wrong. I didn't think Trump could beat Hillary.

I wonder if this guy would say the same thing for a relief bill for Texas.
Yes, I do get a sense of "Only Red States Deserve Federal Aid".
And his sarcastic remarks on diversity are noted.

It's not like California taxpayers don't pay Federal tax dollars. Oh, that's right they do.

I guess the Fed's shouldn't have helped New York or New Jersey when Hurricane Sandy happened either? You gotta love the logic, that says the country's resources should all be directed at only States that vote Republican.

Remind me the next time some tornado wipes out some town in Kansas or Nebraska. They don't nneed them gumint dollars. They can get thr Almighty to help them.

I can see someone's crotchety grandpa, sitting on the porch in some unreconstructed backwater, with nobody but his old VFW buddies to talk to. The kind of guy who can't even hear his grandchildren anymore, let alone listen to them when they try to explain he's being sexist.

But Biden? He's hale and hearty, and he's been in the mainstream of US politics for decades. "I didn't know; that's just the way I am" isn't really a plausible excuse coming from him.

Yep.

Not your best Cain. 2/10

We're back to where we started. I find the behavior creepy and you don't.

The bonkers assault on Joe Biden By Andrea Peyser

We're back to where we started. I find the behavior creepy and you don't.

Weird Joe, who’s been showing keen affection to members of the fairer sex since before he became a big Democratic macher, has done the unforgivable in this humorless age. He’s shown genuine human warmth of the male variety to females in the scary era of #MeToo. And he’s demonstrated that the vast suspicion, bordering on hatred, of men — even dudes on the political left — is a force so powerful, he has only one choice: Pack in your presidential hopes, Joe, and repent. The feminists of America are coming for you with torches and pitchforks.

The insanity has spread like measles. Once, a man who gave a lady a friendly pat, a shoulder rub or an encouraging peck on the noggin was either thanked profusely, *ignored or simply asked to stop.

Women, it was presumed, weren’t so powerless as to be *unable to avoid unasked-for contact. Whatever happened to telling a pesky guy to scram? That is no longer an option.

This article pretty much sums up my view on this. Has the whole world gone insane? Proportionality has gone right out the window.

genuine human warmth of the male variety to females

Who else do you know that is touchy-feely as an expression of human warmth? Maybe to one's cousins at the picnic, but at political events? With some women and girls who are not your close friends?

If this is just human warmth, where are the images of Biden rubbing male shoulders? Why is this OK male to female and not male to male?

Side hugs, brief, hand shakes, sure, but the shoulder rubbing and hair kissing, ear whispering, eeewwww!.

Sorry.
