The Republican Party will become “The Party of Healthcare!”

He's forgotten they tried this before and failed. Trump brags about how he can fix healthcare despite having no plan of his own.

Republicans take the House and the Senate forcing them to admit they have no plan after all. Trump is shocked, "didn't know it was so complicated" really means he had no clue the GOP had no plan.

Fast forward and as alfaniner says Trump's balls are engorged, he apparently forgot he played this tune before and it fell flat. He goes back to claiming he has a plan. And guess what? He's calling a meeting with the GOP to find out what that plan is.

You know, I hope the Trump Team Do try and repeal the ACA. Because things are already going "great" according to Donny...in that little world in his head. And this would be a MAGA-great idea too!

I gather, in reality, it would lead to untold problems with healthcare across the USA for everyone, except perhaps investors in the health insurance business. But no matter! If it's good for them then it's good for everyone. I also expect the sales of tiki-torches and pitchforks will increase, especially around Washington DC. And that's a bonus as well!

In other words, let Donny kick himself in the nuts by sparking this thing off nationally.

No, you did not. This is what you asked:

Why would they do that (use a weasel word). Not why I described it that way.

Aw, come on. You made a declaration about it BEING a weasel word. Obviously I was asking you why he would ACTUALLY do that. I'm not asking you for hypothetical scenarios, and you know it. This is something you do constantly, using a specific interpretation of the letter of a post in order to avoid actually answering questions and requests.

And yes, we should stop this discussion because it's clear you'll never answer me.

Who the hell is Zachary Porter?

Who cares? He said something nice to the President and made the President happy. That's what matters, doesn't it?

A little news about voting rights, then. After Florida voters voted for the restoration of ex-felon voting rights, state Republicans working to take them away again. Short version, Republicans want the felons to pay all related debts back first, before the people are allowed to vote again. In the end, this amounts to a poll tax and directly targets those who weren't rich beforehand. The problem here is compounded by Florida's justice system, where the courts are required to be self-sustaining, which leads to distinctly higher fines and fees. As in, mandatory minimum of $25K up to $500K for non-violent low level drug convictions. Apparently, about 83% of the fines are not expected to actually be paid, though, which means that the amounts get even higher in an effort to keep the courts running. Republicans, directly opposing the will of the people, yet again.

Be careful. In wishing for Trump to make a politically disastrous decision (assuming it is so), you're simultaneously wishing for something that will harm many innocent folk.

Now that it's getting closer...

I'm afraid that when The PDJT loses the election next year, he'll still have power for almost three months, and of what he can do in that time.

The thing is, people are going to be harmed by Trump and his actions regardless. So the question becomes, what will cause the least amount of harm:

- Repeal of Obamacare, which harms millions of people who need health care, but turns enough of the electorate against the republicans in 2020 that the Democrats retake the white house and/or senate. After that, the Democrats can start repairing some of the damage caused by Trump and the republicans

- Republicans somehow keep Obamacare (or at least parts of it), enough people think "my health care is safe, no need to turn against the GOP", and either Trump or the senate republicans manage to eek out another victory in 2020, with the result of another 4 years of Trump (along with all the damage that brings) or another 4 years of a republican Senate

What I find extremely funny is Trump's boast that the GOP health care plan will be better.

 What plan?

Seriously, when have the Republicans ever proposed a health care plan? I can't think of one. The 70s maybe? The Affordable Care Act is the closest one I can think of because it was essentially created by the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation. But the GOP never proposed it.

Trump has been saying they are going to propose something better. Better for who?

"In 1972 the United States Congress passed legislation authorizing the End Stage Renal Disease Program (ESRD) under Medicare. Section 299I of Public Law 92-603, passed on October 30, 1972, extended Medicare coverage to Americans if they had stage five chronic kidney disease (CKD) and were otherwise qualified under Medicare's work history requirements. The program's launch was July 1, 1973. Previously only those over 65 could qualify for Medicare benefits. This entitlement is nearly universal, covering over 90% of all U.S. citizens with severe CKD.[1]"

Unfortunately, we're at a point where "harming many innocent folk" is about the only thing that will make the people still supporting Trump see how stupid they're being.

It sucks, but there it is.

We're at the "piss on the electric fence" stage.

It would be just one of many so far. So if he is going to piss off some sections of the USA, he may as well go hog-wild and piss them all off.

I was hoping this didn't need to be spelled out to intelligent forumites, but yes.
