Anti-Muslim Terrorist Attack in... NZ?

That was a thing of beauty,

I hope there is a copycat for Steve King of Iowa.
It's hillarious until the right does the same thing or worse to heroes on the other side. Dickhead should have kept his eggs for breakfast and not risked earning sympathy pr hero points for scumsucking Anning.

The system got caught with its pants down.

...I heartily agree.

Here's a twitter thread.

14 years ago, I was involved in running a group that monitored trans-tasman fascist additivity. The Community Security Group, part of the Wellington Jewish Community, asked me to talk to their police liaison to ID some photos of National Front members & other racists for them.

...

I went in, spent a brief period of time, maybe 5-10 mins, doing that. The police officer left the room, returned with more photos and spent nearly an hour trying to convince me to name people in this new set - environmental protesters involved in Wellington's anti-Bypass movement.

...

The same group of police that monitored racists and nazis also monitored left wing and environmental activists. It was abundantly clear to me then who they focused on, and it wasnt the group who had recently attacked my Jewish family's graves.

...

In the early days of Operation 8, long before Ruatoki was blockaded and tino rangatiratanga activists around The country were arrested, the same police who monitored the Tūhoe arrestees phones were monitoring Kyle Chapman and his friends text messages too.

...

Again, it was very clear who the police decided to focus on, and it wasn't the group who has been organising fight clubs and survivalist training for what they saw as an impending race war.

And another thread for good measure:

Our "intelligence" services kept a file on Green Party MP Keith Locke since he was 11 and he was designated a "threat" while he was a sitting MP. Tuhoe activist Rangi Kemara said the surveillance on him was so obvious that he had a sticker under the visor which said: "Warning - this car is probably bugged."

The police & co have for decades been focused on peace groups, Maori and Muslim activists, even Communists. This came out of the blue for a simple reason: they weren't looking for it.

You might want him to provide evidence of this

...you do realize that this is common knowledge right? That simply googling Keith Locke's name would have revealed several citations on the very first page?

LOCKE'S OFFICIAL debut was on December 12, 1955, when the Police Special Branch it did the spying before the SIS was set up noted that he attended a William Morris social evening with his mother at the Christchurch YWCA. Keith James Locke was 11.

n the SIS documents I was identified as an “internal” threat because I “wish[ed] to see the NZSIS & GCSB abolished or greatly modified”. The documents labelled this a “syndrome”.

In her apology, Kitteridge said “the talking point suggests wrongly that being a vocal critic of the agencies means you are a ‘threat’ or a ‘syndrome’.

Agreed.
And, I repeat, the real sad irony is that the NZ shootings have provided ISIS and other Islamic groups with the best recruiting tool they have had in a long time.

ISIS is a bit weird in this. Radical Islam works in a positive feedback loop, it they're on the offensive recruts flock to them much more than otherwise. Few it any joined ISIS because of some of wrong to them or to Islam, beyond not letting Islam tule supreme. Radical White supremacists may be more susceptible to a negative feedback from this. Not exclusively, but it could be the net result will be fewer followers to both.

It may be this idiot did more damage to his cause than he booned ISIS. We know McWeigh did.

Point out that radical Islam and white supremacism have more in common with each other than with honest, decent Muslims and whites.

I also think that the extremists also need reminding, any Muslim or white in New Zealand is an immigrant. This terror attack was one group of immigrants attacking another.

Would you mind rephrasing that?

To me, it seems you are lumping people like me, a white NZer in with the killer.

I visit a few forums that debate Holocaust Deniers. It is horrific what some of them are saying in support of the shooting. There are some extremists out there who are loving their ability to use "freedom of speech" as permission to spread hatred and enable the thankfully still very rare extremists who is prepared to get weapons and go out and kill.

Only 5 days ago Tim Berners-Lee said, on the 30th anniversary of the internet;

https://www.theguardian.com/technol...-we-dream-a-little-we-can-get-the-web-we-want

"While the web has created opportunity, given marginalised groups a voice and made our daily lives easier,” he writes, “it has also created opportunity for scammers, given a voice to those who spread hatred and made all kinds of crime easier to commit."
It's happening right now in this thread. :(

An extremist from one group of immigrants attacking another. I thought that my references to extremism on both sides made that clear.

He meant Australians. ;)

He was double immigrant, whereby his ancestors emigrated to Australia and then he emigrated to NZ. That fact has clearly been lost on him.

I think the problem is that people like him think they are entitled and somehow others have fewer rights.

So, he has no problem ignoring the hypocrisy and irony that somehow it is OK for him to be immigrant, but not certain other groups.

That mind frame needs to be attacked and the hypocrisy rammed down their throats.

I saw the video of the attack. I was at work, a colleague was browsing during a break and found it being shared.

It looked like a first person shooter game, the way the arms and gun could be seen and the way the gun recoiled when fired. We were not sure it was even real.

It was like when I heard about 9/11 and switched the TV on just as the second plane crashed into the tower.

I know what you mean, but honestly I prefer to say that he was an immigrant. Literally, he was from another country, and he turned up on the shores of a country and said there were too many people from elsewhere there. He literally has no more right than anyone else in the country. As for many of the people he killed, maybe many of them had been born in New Zealand and grown up there. Those people are not immigrants. They are natives of the country.

Even the Maori are recent immigrants there.

Mmm, yes.

"Sir, these horrible leftists pushed me towards white supremacy with their deviant egg-cracking ways! I had no choice but to become a full blown fascist!".

Then you would have no problem if I did the same to you?

Lol, anyone who thinks getting a chicken egg cracked on them is a "screwed up attack" should just stop leaving their homes. Stay inside where nothing even remotely scary is likely to happen.

Dude 1 it's a microagression and we keep hearing that those are really really bad.

Really bad.

If you'd be happy with someone attacking you from behind to make a spectacle out of you in the media, than you're a better man than most.
