Anti-Muslim Terrorist Attack in... NZ?

You plan to ban all knives too? How about swords? Heck swords really are made to kill people and you can own them in Australia without a licence! What about Slingshots? Fireworks? Cars? Vans? Bows and arrows? Rocks? Or is it just guns you have issues with?

ETA: I'll point out that nearly 40% of all homicides in Australia are stabbings. Guns account for just 13%
Acid. Don't forget about banning acid. And sharp sticks.

Wouldn't it be easier to make it illegal to complain about flooding your cities with people who rape children, treat women like property, mutilate genitalia, and throw homos off tall buildings? If nobody heard complaints about having a foreign culture imposed on them, nobody would be angry about it and we could all live together in three part harmony.

And then he turned around and punched the kid twice in the face, and one of the "bodyguards" kicked the kid when he was already restrained.

I hope the cops arrest some of those "bodyguards", and Fraser Anning while they are at it.

Why? The kid attacked first. Anning defended himself and his bodyguards neutralized the threat without excessive force.

I'm interested in your definition of "excessive force".

Couple of interesting pieces of information have come to light.

First up, the former grunt who went to the Bruce Rifle Club, which is where Tarrant was a member, and was so disgusted by what he what he heard that he reported the club to the police in Nov 2017, about the time Tarrant joined:

He was concerned the ethos at the club was the "perfect breeding ground" for a mass shooter and lodged a formal complaint with the police.

The cops, despite being mere kilometres from two of NZ's mass shootings, shrugged it off as southern boys being southern boys.

Tarrant gave a White Power/QAnon signal at his court appearance. He also had Celtic Suns on his gear - a popular white supremacy graphic.

A Christchurch company insulation company also uses the Celtic Sun on their vans, while quoting a price on their website of $14-88 per square metre.

Certainly not hiding their light under a bushel.

The shooter's manifesto was emailed to multiple people, including the Prime Minister, 10 minutes before he started the attack.

Even at this early stage of the investigation I am completely convinced this guy slipped through a net that didn't even exist. His online record of hate goes back to his teenage years and nobody was taking any notice.

The gun laws are almost a red herring at this point - if he hadn't been getting a gun licence, he could have been getting a truck licence and stolen a petrol tanker, then detonated it at the Bangladesh cricket game, killing hundreds, or thousands. He was clearly committed to his goal that while guns made it easy, the lack of them wouldn't necessarily have lowered the death toll.

A question I've not heard asked yet is, where did this bloke get his money?

He travelled extensively, and that's not cheap. he was buying fairly expensive guns, using a lot of very expensive ammo, paying rent in a very overpriced market, living in a country with one of the highest costs of living compared to pay on the planet, and it's not even clear that the bloke was working.

Where the hell did all his money come from?

By all accounts, the kid knew what was likely to happen after his breakfasty justice was served, and considered it worth it. I tend to agree. After all, the police eventually showed up and released him, while Anning remained covered with egg.

He seems to be rapidly becoming something of a minor Australian folk-hero in the wake of the incident.

* Note: Disclaimer - there was once a bolt action rifle that was made semi-automatic. About 100 years ago, a Remington employee figured out how to convert a Springfield 30-06 bolt-action rifle to semi-auto. It used an 'unlocked' blowback system relying on the mass of the bolt and spring tension to work the action. He designed a device to be inserted into the breech that replaced the bolt, and provided a chamber for a smaller 30 cal pistol round to be fired. The weapon would reload automatically, but the small round came with a range penalty. It proved unreliable and in the end, it was never issued.

There was a semi auto conversion for the Lee Enfield, the M1915 Howell Automatic Rifle. It involved adding a gas port and piston to actuate a rod which used a cam system to cycle the bolt, a 'mechanical hand' arrangement.

There was also the Pedersen device for the U.S. 1903 Springfield. It want a bit farther; It turned the Springfield into an fully automatic weapon, a early attempt at an assault rifle.

Let's move the gun discussion to another thread. I understand it is certainly revelenat to this shooting, but it appears to be drowning out everything else.

There's a website called Raw Confessions and a New Zealand Maori is blaming the Americans for "inspiring" the killing.
New Zealand has a proportionately massive Sikh community.
They blame Muslims for starting this sequence in 9/11, and this will not be reported here by mainstream media.
There are two distinct discussions, in one the narrative has New Zealand unified in condemnation, but the other shows this to be false and misleading.

Not full auto. 40 rds as fast as you could trigger them.

John Pedersen was sometimes needlessly clever. His Device (already described above by another poster) was a wartime bad idea that was meant for the 1919 offensive, which mercifully never happened.

Go to Forgotten Weapons to read all about it and many, many other wacky firearms.

Poor old Christchurch. That's what I really wanted to say.

Why would he fail the fit and proper person test? Isn't it taken for granted by some people on this forum that law abiding gun owners like you and me are just a moment away from being a mass murderer? We are lawful gun owners until we are not?

I'm willing to wager you and the shooter have very little in common except maybe the belief few people if any should be denied access to any and every gun out there.

But by all means, correct me if I'm wrong. You are one of the forum's few pro-gun guys that has rational discussions here.

The 17 year old got what he deserved. He assaulted a man, that man turned and defended himself. That's what I saw. Should he have done it? No, but I sure enjoyed watching it.

I hear this Anning guy is some kind of a-hole, but I'm only judging by what I see in the video.

Some do-gooder thinks it's okay to assault people if they say things that upset him, just like some posters here. He got exactly what he asked for.

The bodyguards attacking him after, not so good, but I absolutely defend Anning for turning and punching him. The kid did attack him. I have no problem with the way it happened personally.

He also looks like someone who would suffer from short-man syndrome.

It'll be interesting to see whether the forensic psychologists write him up crazy, which he clearly is. I would have thought shooting a hundred people is fairly far from sane.
And I'll add that he's almost certainly a failure with the ladies. These guys always seem to be unable to get a girlfriend and they resent it.

And yet - he used guns - Like most single event mass killers. Bombers happen, but they are rare.

Bombs are hard. Guns make it easy.

Death toll is now 50

They found the body of another victim at the Masjid Al Noor Mosque in Deans Avenue when they were removing the bodies.
