David Icke's Visa Cancelled

No, in fact our rights are enshrined in legislation, and by our being signatories to several international treaties including the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
I'm not talking theory here. For example, Victoria's religious vilification laws have had the hilarious consequence that people go to a rival church to hear the preacher talk in the hopes of hearing something in the sermon that can be taken to the courts!

Good luck with that, it's purely symbolic.

And the argument he himself makes for not being anti-semitic (while being very outspoken about the racist politics of the state of Israel) is quite profound. Contrary to most USA conspiracy theorists, Icke is not a religious nutter. What made him end up on that Wogan show in his turquoise tracksuit was a strong psychedelic trip on Ayahuasca, which he is not shy to talk about. And the consequence of this experience is that at the core of his nutty story, there is a profound truth: We are all the same consciousness, just experiencing the same reality through a different vehicle (body). From that perspective, racism is ludicrous and Icke is genuinely watching the world through this (correct) perspective.
I strongly doubt that one ignorant crackpot deliberately poisoning his brain in order to make it malfunction is likely to arrive at a more 'correct' perspective than the world's greatest minds using theirs, unpoisoned, to conduct decades of painstaking scientific research.

Oh, that's just what They want you to believe!

Actually the world's greatest minds have come to the same conclusion, it's just not broadcasted in circles that still believe in the state of scientific research of the 18th century after some guy was born or not.

And yet Icke wasn't allowed to speak which violated the UN Declaration for him and those wishing to hear him.

UN Declaration of Human rights:

Article 6.

Article 18.

Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law.

Article 19.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Um, once again for the slow of uptake...Icke is absolutely fine to phone his silliness in live to any video conference in Australia, 24x7, to anyone willing to pay to watch and hear him if they still want to charge for that. Zero censorship at all. That's ZERO. Full 110% freedom for him to witter away about his alien/lizard/antisemitic crap and for Australians to see and hear him. In Australia. In public. OK?

Except that a violation of rights set out by the UN and agreed to by Australia:

Article 6.

Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law.

Article 19.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

No-one was preventing him from speaking. He could and still can speak as much as he wanted.

Article 19.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

That means if people want to hear him speak live, and Icke wishes to speak live, it is a violation for the government of Australia to prevent it. They could prevent him if he were a criminal but he isn't, he is just expressing an opinion.

Just not here.

We've agreed that Australia has violated the UN declaration in stopping him so we agree Australia is a **** democracy.

Are you trying to have it both ways?

You still haven't explained why Icke should be treated differently to anybody else who might want a visa to enter Australia.

A very amusing thread. Know what demonstrates the strength of Australian society? That hardly anyone here gives a **** about an idiot like Icke. People are far more interested in enjoying life in a country that has remained free from recession for decades; that punches well above its weight as the 16th (or something close) largest world economy; and is right near the top of every livability index you can find.

We decide not to have a **** visit and spew **** (including thinly disguised anti semitism)? **** off.
