Not quite. Team Trump wanted to break the law, but the Russians were staying within the law, so Team Trump didn't have the opportunity.

So it becomes "We tried to break the law but the Russians were too ethical for us."

The Russians.

Team Trump better watch out carrying this logic too far. There is no "attempted obstruction of justice". If you attempt it, you just did it.

I'd love to see an enterprising reporter prepare a comparable chart for the Obama/Biden, Romney/Ryan and Clinton/Kaine campaigns of 2012 and 2016. How many contacts with the Russians is typical for a US presidential campaign, I wonder?

I wonder how many rimes Obama, Biden, Clinton and Kaine met one-on-one with Putin when there were NO OTHER AMERICANS PRESENT or where the only other American present was a translator, whose notes were immediately seized.

Forget it, I know the answer to that..... ZERO

But lets be honest. Would we really have had a concern with any previous leaders?

He's doubling down on Trump backing him. Not many people are stupid enough to do that these days.

Because of the fact that he has lied, that changes everything. The prosecutors in both NY and VA can, if they wish, re-present the changes they dropped against him and those changes on which the jury was hung. They can take their own sweet time to do that so long as the SoL (if applicable) hasn't run out.

Provided Trump does not get re-elected next year, then if those prosecutors are cunning enough, they can stretch this out and hold any trial over until such time as Trump no longer has the power to pardon him (AIUI he can only pardon a convicted person, not an indicted person.
