2018 mid-term election

Hang on a moment, who gets to represent a political party in an election is set by state law?

US politics is bizarre. There was a case this year when an actual Nazi was running on the Republican ticket and there was nothing the Republican party could do to prevent it. Any system where someone can run for election as a representative of a political party despite that party wanting to have nothing to do with him seems broken to me.

I've been a little bit impressed by Trump's campaigning for GOP candidates. Does this mean he's realizing that he doesn't own the federal government, and that he needs continuing support from Congress? Working well with others has not be a particularly strong suit.
I'm highly dubious. I don't even think he cares -- I think he would prefer the Dems to rail against -- except that the House outcome will determine if he gets a microscope jammed up his ass.

Hard to know with Trump when it's ignorance, an actual plan from him, or something his handlers have told him to do :/ .

Everybody do yourself a favor. This is for all politics from all sides.

Decompress. If you haven't voted, go vote. If you're helping other people vote, keep doing that as long as you can/want.

But if you're done with your part of the process and you know (and be honest with yourself) that you're stressed out.... turn off. Don't sit on the computer all day hitting "refresh" on every exit poll worrying yourself ragged and letting Facebook's algorithmically perfect outrage generator feed you worst case scenarios.

We aren't going to be able to get any real results for hours and none of the big ones until about 8 P.M, Eastern time.

If this election has put you in a bad place take a few hours for yourself. Turn off the TV, get off the computer and take a few hours. Read a book, take a walk outside, catch up on a Netflix binge, lose yourself in your work, beat your meat/flick your bean I don't care just do something, anything apological for a few hours.

Wise words. I find news from the US exhausting at times and I don't even live there.

I agree with what you said about not obsessively following news updates. Just check the final results when they come in. Once you've voted, you've done your part and there's nothing more you can do.

Hmmm so we Aussies should go to sleep and see how things are looking when we wake up? Sound advice.

I wish I could find some exit polls. Does anyone have any links?

I'm pulling for my neighbor John James to pull the major upset and defeat Debbie Stabenow here in Michigan. I've just got a good feeling about this. #LetsFlyMI

Yesterday and today I find to be the least interesting of all political reporting. It's nothing but speculation and showing candidates cast their votes. Even though I've been watching the political news quite closely up until yesterday.

I probably won't turn it on again until maybe 5pm to get a sense of how it's going. Even so, that was about the time of day when things started to go Trump's way in 2016, so it could be interesting.

I also find it hilarious, that for six months the varying news outlets have been completely biased in their reporting on their respective candidates, and today they will give the impression of being completely neutral reporting outlets, at least until the results come in opposite of their hopes.

Around me, people are reporting that in their various wards that based on their voting number in previous elections, turn out is so far much higher than other midterm elections. Whether those are just blips or just a shift in the time people tend to vote remain to be seen.

And because there is always an XKCD...

Is that supposed to be the Illuminati driving the Censorship? Woo-woo, coming through!

I'm more interested in the first mate with the large nose, $ in the telescope, and a Z on his cap. Am I reading that wrong that that is supposed to be a money hungry Jew? (Z for Zionism or Zog)

Or is that supposed to be Zuckerberg or someone else I don't recognize?

Yup, of course that's Zuckerberg (and yes, on the wheel is the eye in the pyramid, misunderstood the Dr.'s post). Bernie is also a nice touch with his commie scissor.. :p;)
