Ah, a fellow West Wing fan. I miss that show..and that president.

as an aside - have you listened to The West Wing Weekly?

You might like it - A weekly Podcast examing The West Wing episode-by-episode. They're just getting to the end of Season 5.

Hosted by Joshua Malina (who played Will Bailey) and Hrishikesh Hirway (an experienced podcaster and fan of the show) they have interesting discussions but also have some great guests - topic experts on government, speechwriting etc., script writers, most of the cast, Aaron Sorkin, Justin Trudeau, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

I really enjoy it.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Yes.
:D
Except. Hoynes said that to Leo.

Yes, but I recognized the line immediately even though you flipped the players. I tried diving into season one again recently, but it just ended up irritating me at how much better this tv administration would be than the current mess. I had to stop.

Except for this

"I need the lyrics to the Notre Dame fight song"

She kind of whined about wanting people to notice what she did and not what she wore.
What exactly DID she do?

Ok, she brought her 'Be Best' campaign to Africa. Well, supposedly the 3 "pillars" of her campaign are:
- Stop cyberbullying. But she's married to the best-known cyberbully in the world, so any mention of the issue will result in snickers and laughs at her expense
- Improve child welfare. But under the Trump administration is working to cut foreign aid
- Stop drug abuse. Ok, there are problems with Opioids all around the world, but I don't think that issue was a significant part of her trip

She also visited a wildlife sanctuary, but given her step-son's well-publicized hobby of big-game hunting, you have to wonder if she was there out of concern for animal care or whether she was just scouting more animals for her step-sons to shoot.

I had the whole collection on DVD. Watched them way too many times. Any way, I'll win and you'll end up playing celebrity golf the rest of your life.

OT
Trump hates direct confrontation and in reality has a very hard time firing anyone face to face and Kelly has no one other than Trump who can fire him.

Martin Sheen has played a president three times. Perhaps he should run for real? He couldn't be a worse choice.

Looks like the first amendment is alive and well in Washington...

From: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...ans-crackdown-on-protests-outside-white-house
Under the proposal introduced by the interior secretary, Ryan Zinke, in August, the administration is looking to close 80% of the sidewalks surrounding the White House, and has suggested that it could charge “event management” costs, for demonstrations.

I wonder how many of the protests against Obama would have been affected had he been such a thin-skinned narcissist as Trump seems to be? After all, there were many protests against him, but I don't remember anyone in his cabinet talking about closing off sidewalks to limit protests.

And do republicans understand that the bill of rights does not start with the second amendment?

OOps...

From: https://qz.com/1422225/the-us-china-trade-war-has-made-chinas-trade-surplus-bigger-than-ever/
Donald Trump’s tariffs on China are going great, the US president assured the world yesterday. “Their economy has gone down very substantially,” Trump said on Fox & Friends.
...
In September, Americans bought $34 billion more worth of Chinese goods than they sold in return, according to data from China’s customs agency published this morning. That’s the biggest monthly trade surplus the Middle Kingdom has ever run with the US.

(Admittedly, the article does suggest part of the increased surplus involved last-minute purchases done before higher tariffs come into play later.)

What I don’t get is why the Republicans are still not bent out of shape after President Trump tried to **** on the Second Amendment. He suggested that the government seize the guns of people that the government considered dangerous and then at a later date, these people would be given a day in court to show that they weren’t so dangerous that the government should seize their guns. (Feb 28, 2018).

If President Obama had said that there would have been calls for his head and demands for impeachment. But when President Trump says it, the Republicans shrug it off and ignore that the man doesn’t understand what due process means,

They probably recognize that Trump either 1) has a short attention span and would probably forget any such promise shortly after making it, so they don't want to remind him of it, or 2) recognize that he is probably lying about his plans as a way to fake concern about the latest shooting, but would eventually start repeating the standard gun-loving rhetoric the republicans love so much.

It's an interesting question, and I wouldn't mind discussing it. Before I jump in, though, I'd like to get a better sense of what you're looking for. Are you interested in getting some insight into how (some) conservatives address this conundrum? Or is it more a question of getting agreement on some point?

Trump Tweets

"So nice, everyone wants Ivanka Trump to be the new United Nations Ambassador. She would be incredible, but I can already hear the chants of Nepotism! We have great people that want the job."
