New SCOTUS Judge II: The Wrath of Kavanaugh

Ford's lawyers are whining that the the FBI isn't interviewing their client.

they must have "blacked out" the testimony she gave last week

so no uniform.

That can, and often is, called a uniform.

Source: I am a high school teacher that has a dress code that it often referred to as a "uniform."*

Edit: Referred to as a uniform by administrators, teachers and students alike.

*technically, the current dress code/uniform does include a specific logo on a polo shirt, but that is recent, and not too long ago it was simply clothes type and color and was referred to as a uniform.

Oops...
An example of a uniform would be requiring white button-downs and ties for boys and pleated skirts for girls, with both wearing blazers. A uniform can even be as simple as requiring collared shirts, or restricting colour choices and limiting items students are allowed to wear. A dress code, on the other hand, is much less restrictive, and focuses "on promoting modesty and discouraging anti-social fashion statements," according to Marian Wilde.[2] Examples of a dress code would be not allowing ripped clothing, no logos or limiting the amount of skin that can be shown.

Saw this today concerning Swetnick. (a letter to judiciary committee)

Meaningless. Being promiscuous and participating in group sex does not mean she was not raped.

If anything, it makes it more likely - if word got out, people might have assumed she would be more receptive, only to force the issue when she was not.

In my memories of high school, a few of the girls who were thought to be promiscuous were often targeted by the sort of "take what I want" people.

ETA: I mean really - this is a perfect example of slut shaming. This why slut walks exist - people make fun of them, but the suggestion that promiscuous people don't get raped because they obviously just consent every single time or that it is not rape because the person is promiscuous, or that they deserve it or whatever - that's an issue that has been hashed over many, many times. Which is why it has a name: slut shaming.

Another picky language issue: "Rebut" and "refute" are being used somewhat interchangeably (ETA: in the media; not here that I've noticed).

ETA2: This is trickier. If an underage/inebriated 15-year-old is unqualified to give consent, is an inebriated 17-year-old unqualified to consent? If so does that affect his ability to form intent? I keep going back to Kavanaugh's contention, which is apparently self-evident to him, that he knows he would never try to rape anyone. IMO, people who have a Jekyll and Hyde change of personality with alcohol tend to be what is colloquially known as an alcoholic. IOW, it's a sign of the kind of out-of-control behavior that IMO militates against the possibility of ever developing a moderated drinking habit. But I doubt if that is clinically documented anywhere. I've heard numerous people say they blacked out the very first time they drank. The first time I really drank I had 8 shots of Jack Daniel's. A blackout would have been merciful. I recall hours of being sick as a dog. Moral of the story: I can't drink bourbon.

The above paragraph is full of weasel words for a reason, and is actually irrelevant to the matter at hand, since Kavanaugh, unlike Judge, has not embraced the "recovering alcoholic" narrative.
I'm not thrilled with this fact, but "refute" has a secondary meaning of rebut and has for centuries. Not how I use the term, but it is a common usage.

Say, fellas who appear not to know what a uniform is, how did our erstwhile heroine know that Navy blue blazer, Khakis, a Belt, a White, light blue, or light yellow solid-colored shirt, always neatly tucked into the pants and a Tasteful necktie

was part of a "uniform" designed to show off how proud they were of their school?

What a minute, I am wearing a light blue shirt, khakis, a tie, and my blazer is sitting right over at my conference table.

I am wearing a Georgetown Prep Uniform! So happy and proud!

Hee hee!

Do you think the FBI would ask exactly the same questions as the senators?

TBD unable to admit it when he is proven wrong.

How shocking.

I think that the Dem Senators asked exactly the questions her lawyers wanted them to ask.

She has something to add, there aint anything stopping them from submitting another written statement.

It did not stop Avenatti, of course it should have, but that is a whole other thing.

What exactly is "Mandatory school attire" if it is not a uniform?

Mandatory school attire consists of:
  • Navy blue blazer (blazers must be worn at all times. As weather permits, the Dean will decide the necessity for blazers. Generally, jackets are required from mid-October to mid-April. Students’ names must be marked clearly in all blazers)
  • Khaki trousers (Dockers or similar slacks)
  • Belt
  • White, light blue, or light yellow solid-colored shirt, always neatly tucked into the pants
  • Tasteful necktie
  • Socks
  • Brown or black hard-soled dress shoes only, including bucks, loafers, dress tie shoes

Oxford English definition: 1 The distinctive clothing worn by members of the same organization or body or by children attending certain schools.

Merriam-Webster definition: dress of a distinctive design or fashion worn by members of a particular group and serving as a means of identification

broadly : distinctive or characteristic clothing

If you fail this hard on basic dictionary definitions of simple nouns, then one wonders at how accurate your pronouncements on complicated legal matters must be.

Sometimes abnormal drinkers don't know how to answer the question, because they're not sure what's normal.

Indeed. It was some time before I realized that splitting a 12 pack at lunch was not really normal. I try not to think about the times we tried to split a case.

The most embarrassing aspect of those lunches: to afford the cheap beer we would typically get Arby's.
