John McCain Diagnosed With Brain Cancer

The exact quote was “I hate THE gooks. I will hate them as long as I live.” He was specifically referring to the North Vietnamese. How do we know? Because he was quite candid about it.

“I was referring to my prison guards,” McCain said, “and I will continue to refer to them in language that might offend some people because of the beating and torture of my friends.”

ANd he was very specific he was referring to the North Vietnames Prison Guards ...with which you can't blame McCain for being bitter.

Yeah, Angrysoba took the quote out of context.
And McCain played a major role in normalizing relations between the US and
Vietnam in the 80's.

Just saw that ,at the Arizona Memorial Service, the recessional..the song played when the service is over and people are exiting is going to be "Frank Sinatra'a "My Way".

I don't blame him for being bitter. But as was said at the time, if he had been in a war in a country in Africa and beaten up by African captors and he had ever since referred to them with the use of the n-word and said, "I hate the *******!" and continuously used the term (it wasn't a one-off from what I have read), then you could expect him to be in a lot of trouble for it.

As I said, it wasn't a one-off, and the most widely reported use of it was when he had been asked about his use of the term.

But just as a question to you, if he had used the word to refer to South East Asians, Vietnamese, or even North Vietnamese in general, and not merely his captors, would it make a difference for you?

He wouldn't even care. And neither would most Trump supporters. I expect some would. But their attitude would be they didn't vote for him because he's ethical. People at Trump rallies have been wearing shirts saying they'd rather be Russian then a Democrat.

Exactly. They'd rather be traitors than be the "other". Maybe secession was the right idea, after all? Split the two irreconcilables from one another.

Stop telling people what they can and can’t discuss! Stop it! Don’t post it!

Nicely done. :)

But... Joe wasn't telling people not to post. He was voicing his disagreement with politicising everything.

Here's the question for you. Is McCain simply the worst or best thing he has done? Is any of us?

I cannot ignore the Keating 5 or McCain's awful positions on Gay equality or that he was a war monger. But I also cannot ignore his many good and principled actions either. I can despise his misdeeds and still respect his honorable actions.

See, you're being reasonable here. Can't have that on the internet, man.

Yes, it would have.

I really worry that this cult of personality is going to turn violent. In fact, Trump alluded to it during the campaign, and now this week.

I think the question is only how bad will the violence be,
Yes, you have a few Alpha Hotels on the Left...some of the more extreme Anfifa types, who seem prone to violence, but the right will be by far the worse offenders.
And that is a danger:One extreme always encourages the other extreme.

I'm convinced mostly this is veiled hatred for being a traitor to his race, by saying some illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay here as part of a grand bargain including border security. A shot-down pilot's classified secrets are going to have a very limited operational shelf life, if hd even had that access to begin with. Methinks the accusations over Vietnam are a (known) baseless smear to cover for their dog whistle designed to appeal to a goodly chunk of nationalist Trump voters.

I was disappointed that my nephew did not stand when between innings the scoreboard carried a brief tribute to McCain. My Trump-voting brother stood as did I but my nephew (26 or so, who served briefly in the Army) made it a point not to. He would have no reason to be against McCain except for the propaganda he's been swallowing from Trump et al. It's possible he had a well-informed reason for staying seated but I doubt it; he tends to follow Trump's lead.

Shame, that. Any veteran ought to respect McCain's service.

I can't even wrap my mind around the mental gymnastics of attacking McCain's time as a POW. There's no way to attack him without attacking other downed pilots who made similar propaganda videos after being tortured in North Vietnam and North Korea. Vietnam was famous for Commander Denton, a shot down naval aviator, blinking "TORTURE" in morse code during such a propaganda film.

How military types accept this treatment of McCain by a notorious draft dodger is inexplicable to me. Trump is the ultimate Jody, banging women left and right and laughing at the GI who's too dumb to avoid Vietnam.

Jody? Not a tern I recognize.

It's hard to make sense out of Trump on the best of days. When he's going off script it's even harder. In the same spritz he alluded to the Democrats undoing all the progress he's made (for them, for himself, for his family - - I guess including (((Ivanka))) although I find it hard to see how), then said "they" (the possible new Democratic majority in Congress) are going to do it swiftly and violently, blah blah Antifa.

If the Dems win.....
"they will overturn everything that we've done and they'll do it quickly and violently, and violently. There's violence. When you look at Antifa and you look at some of these groups — these are violent people."

"The level of hatred, the level of anger is unbelievable. Part of it is because of some of the things I've done for you and for me and for my family, but I've done them. … This Nov. 6 election is very much a referendum on not only me, it's a referendum on your religion, it's a referendum on free speech and the First Amendment."

Apparently, winning the House, which would likely only cause much rejoicing in bars throughout the beltway, is going to be a cue to start violence. This makes no sense, of course. But Donnie needs you afraid; it's part of his master plan.

His main pitch, of course, wrapped around the lie that he repealed the Johnson Amendment, was for the preachers to get out there and support him (and what the hell, the party too, I guess, if you gotta) because he's getting tired of the White House laundry service refusing to clean the **** stains off his robes, undies and sheets. He finally realized himself that a Dem majority in the House is going to make the Mueller investigations look like an episode of To Tell The Truth.

It's military slang for the guy a soldier's wife/girlfriend screws while the soldier is deployed. Generally expanded to mean any guy not in the service enjoying the pleasures of civilian life while a soldier is experiencing the unpleasantness of war deployment.

It's a bastardization from a line in a song about a man called "Joe De Grinder".

Oooh, I wonder if that's the origin for the name of the rock band 'Jody Grind'?

Hmmm, apparently named after a song / album by Horace Silver:

" Initially called Nova, they changed their name to Jody Grind (after a song by jazzman Horace Silver)."

So when will McCain return to the Senate?
Even in his present condition, he can do more good than most other members of his party.

"Jody" is the main subject of a number of US Military marching chants

"Aint no Use In Looking Back,
Jody's Got Your Cadillac
Aint no use in going home
Jody's got your girl and gone
But Someday I will get a three day pass
Then I'll kick Jody's Ass"...

Ah, the memories....

I'm in the middle Joe Biden's eulogy of John McCain. Damn it's personal. Got me choked up. I'll watch the 2nd half a little later.

I love that McCain chose "My Way" as one of the songs to play at his own funeral. I bet The PDJT was planning on that for himself but now he can't use it.
