Cohen's lawyer has come out and stated that the leak didn't come from them, and they suspect the Whitehouse released it, possibly to weaken Cohen's worth to the prosecutors.
THIS!
Cohen gains nothing by showing his cards early, and it makes absolutely no sense for him to do so.
Trump, on the other hand, knowing that this information exists and will eventually be made public, has nothing to lose and everything to gain by releasing it. In doing so, they get ahead of the game, lessen the shock value of the information and weaken Cohen's hand should he decide to flip.
Interestingly, according to former US Attorney, and senior official at the FBI, Chuck Rosenberg, its a flawed strategy, because regardless of how the information became public, Cohen would still have to testify to this in court
*... an anonymous leak from an unknown source is not evidence that can be used in court.

*ETA: Of course, this is assuming that Michael Cohen is still alive to testify - and with the criminal, pathological liar currently charge at the White House, that is not a given....Dolt 45 could take his lead from Henry II of England, after all, its not as if the Dolt hasn't tried this sort of thing before; he did "hope" that James Comey would "let go" of any investigation into Michael Flynn.
