I like the term "Obama gang", though. Gives me a picture in my head of Barrack as a prohibition-era gangster leader, suit, machine gun, cigar and all.

It'd be a tan suit, his feet would be on his desk and the cigar would be slathered in Dijon mustard :p

Yep, its called panic. Its what people with NPD often do when they are confronted with their flaws.

NPD sufferers require something called "narcissistic supply" (NS); a continuous stream of social approval and attention. They cannot control this need, or the anxiety that results when NS dries up. They absolutely must have this external feedback to regulate their fragile sense of self-worth, and because they have a low frustration threshold, the result of an absence of NS often results in them flying into rages and striking out at anything and anyone they perceive as starving them of their needs

How do I know this? Well, I lived for six years with a women who suffered from NPD; I recognize the patterns of behaviour. In the end, it got to be more than I could handle and I kicked her out. She had a complete meltdown shortly afterwards, and I predict that this is where Trump is heading.

Anyone who has lived with or knows someone with this disorder will recognize Trump's behaviour for what it is.

Unsurprisingly, I've read posts elsewhere by posters who have lived with people with NPD and whose descriptions and analysis are entirely consistent with yours.

The more I read about Paul Manafort, the more I'm convinced he is going to prison for a long long time. He gets a 16 million dollar loan from a tiny bank in Chicago based on sketchy records and a promise to the banker to not only give him a position in the Trump campaign but to make him Secretary of the Army.. So Bank Fraud and tax evasion seems like a slam dunk.

I don't think he'll be in prison for long. President Trump will pardon him to give a clear indication to everyone that they have nothing to fear from the legal process.

Trump Tweets a shill for a book

"“The Russia Hoax, The Illicit Scheme To Clear Hillary Clinton & Frame Donald Trump” is a Hot Seller, already Number One! More importantly, it is a great book that everyone is talking about. It covers the Rigged Witch Hunt brilliantly. Congratulations to Gregg Jarrett!"

This is notable as a statement from Trump, as it's actually true. It's currently the #1 best seller on the US Amazon site. #3 on Barnes & Noble.

There are a whole host of state charges being prepared against Manafort as well so I think not.

I think Trump has tried to give the impression that anyone loyal to him will be pardoned. The actual pardons are a whole 'nother issue, though. First, of course, are the optics, especially if the loyal Trumpian is convicted of many crimes and some of them look particularly unwholesome. Second, as has been observed upthread, once someone has been pardoned, they can't take the 5th if they're subsequently summoned in connection with Trump.

So Trump doesn't want to actually pardon them, he just wants them to think they'll be pardoned if they don't turn on him.

Exactly. Manafort looks extremely guilty of some very easy to understand crimes. Manafort isn't Joe Arpaio. He's a guy who made millions from working with Russia and pro-Russian politicians in the Ukraine. He was moving and hiding his money to avoid taxes and disclosure. Maybe Manafort thought Trump was going to save him, but I don't think even Paul believes that now.

Third, State charges can not be pardoned by the President. Only the State's Governor can issue pardons for state convictions.

If the State Governor is a Republican then presumably he may be minded to pardon.

If not, can the federal government put pressure on the state like they have in the past on drinking age and speed limits ? Could the federal government threaten to pull some funding for a state unless a pardon was forthcoming ?

I don't think the federal government has a legitimate threat to make in this scenario.

Trying to tie federal funding to state participation in federal policies is one thing. Kind of a constitutional grey area. But executive pardons aren't a matter of state or federal policy or funding at all. They're an exercise of well-established and constitutional executive privilege vs the judiciary. I suspect that any attempt to condition federal funding on state exective pardons would be seen as entirely unconstitutional and non-binding. If it went to court, the ruling would almost certainly command the federal government to continue the funding regardless.

I suspect at least some of Manfort's crimes would have taken place in New York, which currently has a Democrat governor.

That would be quite an extreme step, and I suspect that it might require a bill to be passed through congress. (Granted the Republicans in congress are completely corrupt, but it would still be an obstacle.)

Trump Tweets

"What kind of a lawyer would tape a client? So sad! Is this a first, never heard of it before? Why was the tape so abruptly terminated (cut) while I was presumably saying positive things? I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped - can this be so? Too bad!"
