Remember when the Republican party used to be about less government and more self reliance? Remember when they used to preach about picking oneself up by their bootstraps? Taking ones future and fortunes in their own hands without looking to goverment for help? I miss those days.

Honestly no. They have been the old people party and bigger military party for as long as I can remember. Military spending and programs that directly benefit the elderly make up such a large fraction of US spending that it’s utterly impossible for Republicans to actually cut government spending.

The fact that they want to keep all the spending but still promise tax cuts has made them the borrow and spend party for at least 35 years.

Many key positions are switched when an administration changes, especially if the incumbent is of a different party than the previous office holder. Since there is a good chance that the administration will change again in 4 or 8 years, it makes a lot of sense to keep probable future members of an administration (or mentors) in the loop - otherwise you lose valuable expertise every time you have an election.
There is also the fact that when you have a security clearance revoked (as opposed to lapsed) it is very difficult to get another.

Meh. If you only vote Republican you are a Republican. It’s a description accurately describes you complaining that you are being pigeonholed by it is nonsensical.

Who says personal motives have to make sense?

I'd argue that for some people identifying vocally that they are a Democrat or a Republican makes them uncomfortable as they want to appear open-minded. My best friend pretty much votes straight Democratic ticket and he will say he's an independent every time. I haven't believed in God for 30 years and yet I never said I was an atheist until maybe 5 years ago.

People are not honest. Now that doesn't make everyone Donald Trump. It makes them human.

Is there a reason (other than tradition) a person who no longer works at or with an intelligence agency needs to keep a security clearance?
One of the people in question was on CNN yesterday (maybe Clapper) and pointed out that current leaders of these agencies regularly consult with past leaders for their input and discussion of how things were handled previously. Maintaining their clearance is required for such discussions.
Yes, I can imagine a situation where someone at (for example) the state department calls up his predecessor and says "I've got a meeting with the leader of uzbekibekibekistan... is there anything you can tell me about him?"

Revoking the security clearances of past officials seems like it would actually harm the Trump administration more than it would the people who's clearances are being revoked, since they're cutting off valuable experience. (Well, this is assuming the Trump administration actually had an interest in actually doing a good job.)

I'm registered Independent for one reason: I don't want to get the every other day fund-raising calls that happened every election season. Since I've gone "I", I only get normal scams/spams now.

Trump Tweets

"Countries that have treated us unfairly on trade for years are all coming to Washington to negotiate. This should have taken place many years ago but,
as the saying goes, better late than never!"

"Tariffs are the greatest! Either a country which has treated the United States unfairly on Trade negotiates a fair deal, or it gets hit with Tariffs. It’s as simple as that - and everybody’s talking! Remember, we are the “piggy bank” that’s being robbed. All will be Great!"

"Our Country is doing GREAT. Best financial numbers on the Planet. Great to have USA WINNING AGAIN!"

"MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

"I’m very concerned that Russia will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming Election. Based on the fact that no President has been tougher on Russia than me, they will be pushing very hard for the Democrats. They definitely don’t want Trump!"

Remember folks the President says "Tariffs are the greatest!"

and Russia will be meddling in the elections because he has been so tough on them they want the Democrats instead of him.

So, is the meddling a hoax or not?

It's pretty bad when you have to double check the Twitter address to see if a tweet is from a parody account or the President.

I'm confused. I thought the tariffs were implemented based on National Security? It doesn't seem to be about National Security at all, but getting a better deal.

It seems we may have been mislead by Trump.

No way! Trump has tweets and statements covering both sides of any position you can name. Just look for the one that supports your opinion. You cannot go wrong.

The moron is perjuring himself on Twitter and is too stupid to even realize it.

Canada and Mexico (and I believe the EU as well) have taken their cases against the US to the WTO, claiming his "national security" issue is bogus and therefore the tariffs were illegally implemented.

Everything this idiot says on Twitter will be used against him once the WTO gets around to looking at these cases and making a ruling for or against the US in the very near future.

So while Mango Mussolini is busy bragging about his tariffs with twitty tweets, the WTO is taking notes.

Every day is fricken comedy hour with this clueless clown.

Trump and the GOP and **********, because without the Russian GRU support, they haven't got a chance in hell to win elections.

If he's very concerned about Russia meddling in the next election why doesn't he, you know, do something about it? Other than vacating cybersecurity roles and denying funding for election security, that is.

From the link: “It’s just never recovered since she stepped away from the company,” said an insider.

Yes, because I'm sure the problem is that a women with rather questionable competencies isn't there to run the business day-to-day, and not the bad publicity that comes with her being complicit in the actions of the racist conartist who happens to have been appointed as president by Putin.

It's easy to lie when there are no consequences, but Trump's superpower is having no fear of consequences.
