Prince Charles may not necessarily be the most popular monarch (and yes, having an affair while married was certainly damaging), but he is still head and shoulders above Trump in his ability to handle himself with poise and dignity.

The Royal family has been bred with almost a single purpose.... be show-ponies for all the pomp. I suspect that any of the CIA agents at the ceremony where Trump talked about his electoral victory, or the Native Americans at the ceremony honoring WW2 veterans, would have preferred to have a Prince Charles like character over Trump.

He, Charles, has been quieter and calmer these days but I'm old enough to remember when he was a complete twat...

I wasn't going to say that. ....But yeah.

I'm convinced most people are stupid when it is tribal. I can't believe religion is a thing in this day in age and yet it is. How do smart people believe in that nonsense? Not just dumb people, but smart people.

There are definitely a lot of stupid xenophobic morons who are Trump supporters. And then there are smart people who see him as a means to an end. A way to get tax cuts and destroy the government. People who not only want to end Obamacare, but welfare, food stamps Social Security, Medicare, worker protections, the EPA, and any regulations.

Trump is a turd and a tool. He's racist, sexist, boorish misogynistic and absurdly ignorant. He's smart about manipulating the press and maybe that's it. He's a master at what Mark Cuban called headline porn. But he's a moron about almost everything else.

He has the maturity of a 3 year old. I can't believe people actually voted for this crazy liar.

Bolding mine...

I don't think he's smart about it. I think he's just being himself and it happens to be working. I don't think he's a masterful manipulator at all - his base just likes his crap as much as rational people are appalled by it.

"As I said today and many times before, “I have GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people.” However, I also recognize that in order to build a brighter future, we cannot exclusively focus on the past – as the world’s two largest nuclear powers, we must get along"

"My intelligence people..."? Not "America's" or "our"? Who, exactly, are his intelligence people? Do they speak with a heavy Russian accent?

Kudos to that AP reporter for getting those last questions in. The entire narrative would be different if those had not been asked at the very end.

I wonder if the folks that are dead and memorialized on the wall of the CIA agree with trump and his supporters that Russia's intelligence services are better than ours.

I think you have to translate that to Trump's view of the world:

I wonder if the folks that are losers and memorialized on the wall of the CIA agree with trump and his supporters that Russia's intelligence services are better than ours

Pretty much this. He's latched onto a rock while floating to and fro on the media waves, and confirmation bias is firmly gluing him in place to that rock.

Since Bolton's pretty much a believer in Putin as Satan, I'm guessing his "my" is a euphemism for "Unnamed Co-Conspirator". I'm betting he still hasn't figured out that he's been pwnd by Manafort, Stone, Putin et al. I'd bet HIS security people are Flynn and Stone.

I see he missed a comma:

As I said today and many times before, “I have GREAT confidence in MY intelligence, people.” However, I also recognize that in order to build a brighter future, we cannot exclusively focus on the past – as the world’s two largest nuclear powers, we must get along"

Possibly. Although I will admit that it could be as simple as Trump viewing himself as the owner/CEO of America, which others have commented on before.

But it's still an incredibly bizarre (or revealing) thing to say, especially to your own "employees".

Early on in his presidency, before the Russia probe became in his mind the huge deal that it now is, there was a report that he referred to the FBI as his personal law enforcement agency. He also calls Air Force One "Trump Force One", or so it's been reported.

He's the CEO of the America, therefore all American agencies are his.

No, I have to give him credit for press manipulation. Trump cannot get the press to write what he wants, but he knows how to get them to write about him. He also seems to understand in his core, that the best way to get the press to move on from a story is to give them another story...maybe even more outrageous to write about.

As for his base, they like outrageous. They don't trust the government or the establishment in any way. So when Trump comes up with his crazy BS, they eat it up.

I heard an internet commentator say that Trump is writing the greatest wrestling heel promo in history.

ETA: But more seriously this is what politics looks like in a Post-Truth world and if I give Trump credit for anything it's that. He saw the new game that was gonna get played before anybody.

I think you're mistaken about Trump Force One. As I understand it, that was what he called his campaign plane.

Never heard the claim about the FBI.

He doesn't actually backtrack at all from what he said:
“My people came to me, [Director of National Intelligence] Dan Coats came to me and some others, they said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin; he just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be. . . . I have confidence in both parties.

Basically: i trust the findings of the US intelligence agencies and think they are just as accurate and trustworthy as Putin is... but i still believe Putin when he says he didn't do it.

That's giving him too much credit.
Trump's always been like this.
His Presidential run this time happened to fit with the US being a bit unstable...

It won't upset his 'Base'
Here is a caller to C-SPAN saying she is pleased that Russia interfered with the election because it kept Hilary out.

Republicans spent the better part of a decade portraying Democrats as baby-eating, Grandma-killing, devil-worshipping Communist monsters out to destroy America. It's why even moderate Republicans were unwilling/unable to compromise with Democrats during President Obama's time in office. They knew that they would be eaten alive for cooperating with the "enemies of America" if they did. Being a Russian puppet is acceptable because a Democrat would have been WORSE.

Trump Tweeted

"I had a great meeting with NATO. They have paid $33 Billion more and will pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars more in the future, only because of me. NATO was weak, but now it is strong again (bad for Russia). The media only says I was rude to leaders, never mentions the money!"

"While I had a great meeting with NATO, raising vast amounts of money, I had an even better meeting with Vladimir Putin of Russia. Sadly, it is not being reported that way - the Fake News is going Crazy!"
