Ken "Popehat" White is on the case:
Trump’s driver drove for him for 25 years? He’s got some valuable skills and knowledge. He must know where all the best restaurants, gold plating shops, and abortion clinics are.

Trump just tweeted

"Just talked with Pfizer CEO and @SecAzar on our drug pricing blueprint. Pfizer is rolling back price hikes, so American patients don’t pay more. We applaud Pfizer for this decision and hope other companies do the same. Great news for the American people!"

Trump said

""I have NATO. I have the UK, which is in somewhat turmoil. And I have Putin. Frankly, Putin may be the easiest of them all," Trump said Tuesday. "Who would think?""

He's probably right (a broken clock is correct twice a day). Hitler was pretty easy to figure out. Managing the alliance to stop him probably took a lot of work.

Wouldn't it be great if they come out of that meeting and Putin posts it all over "They were right. That guy is a *********** moron. I can't work with him."

This article puts everything together with Israel, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Russia with the "grand bargain" for Ukraine and Syria.

During a private meeting shortly before the November, 2016, election, Mohammed bin Zayed, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, floated to a longtime American interlocutor what sounded, at the time, like an unlikely grand bargain. The Emirati leader told the American that Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, might be interested in resolving the conflict in Syria in exchange for the lifting of sanctions imposed in response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Current and former U.S. officials said that bin Zayed, known as M.B.Z., was not the only leader in the region who favored rapprochement between the former Cold War adversaries. While America’s closest allies in Europe viewed with a sense of dread Trump’s interest in partnering with Putin, three countries that enjoyed unparallelled influence with the incoming Administration—Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the U.A.E.—privately embraced the goal. Officials from the three countries have repeatedly encouraged their American counterparts to consider ending the Ukraine-related sanctions in return for Putin’s help in removing Iranian forces from Syria.

Experts say that such a deal would be unworkable, even if Trump were interested. They say Putin has neither the interest nor the ability to pressure Iranian forces to leave Syria. Administration officials have said that Syria and Ukraine will be among the topics that Trump and Putin will discuss at their summit in Helsinki on July 16th. White House officials did not respond to a request for comment.

I do think countries should keep to their promised target, so on that I'm on the side of saying some countries need to do better, but of course that is not for the reasons why Trump demands someone "pay more".

The pledge was renewed at a summit in 2014. At the time the pledge said all NATO members would meet the military spending target of 2% of GDP by 2024.

*checks calendar*

So why is this a problem in 2018? It is not 2024 yet. Even at the time of the pledge it was known that many of the countries below the 2% mark could not bear a sudden jump to that spending level. It would have trashed their economy.

Trump administration throws out new protection for endangered whales
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Trump administration on Monday threw out a new rule intended to limit the numbers of endangered whales and sea turtles getting caught in fishing nets off the West Coast, even though the fishing industry had proposed the measure.

The National Marine Fisheries Service said it decided the new protection was not warranted.

The action is one of the first by the Trump administration targeting protections for threatened species off the Pacific coast,...

The rule applied to endangered fin, humpback, and sperm whales, short-fin pilot whales and common bottlenose dolphins, as well as endangered leatherback sea turtles, loggerhead sea turtles, olive-ridley sea turtles and green sea turtles.

Some of the communities of whales that would have been protected under the rule have dwindled to the low hundreds, Kilduff said.
Trump is trolling anyone concerned with the environment.

The rules were proposed in 2016 under the Obama administration. The federal agency said the decision was based on an extensive federal study. "As a result of its analysis of the effects of the proposed rule, NMFS has decided that the changes covered in the proposed rule from 2016 are not warranted at this time."
Think he asked his staff to hunt down anything Obama did?

I'm not clear from either if these two articles if the rule is needed or not needed and who says so.

Geez, that initial NATO meeting was cringeworthy.

I'm already waiting for the speculation about The Great Orange Juice Controversy.

Watched some of his breakfast meeting.........he's embarrassing.

According to 90%, or thereabouts, of Republicans, close to 40% of independents and even 10% of Democrats, he's doing a great job.

IMO President Trump is merely a symptom of the views and opinions of a large number of Americans. They are isolationist, they do feel that the rest of the world is taking them for a ride, they're not happy with change and they want to return to the days when white men were not only in charge (because they largely still are) but didn't have to take into account the views of anyone else.

He perfectly represents the views of that 40% or so of the US population on the world stage. :(

More projection from Donald Trump ?

US President Donald Trump has suggested Germany's imports of Russian natural gas are a security concern, as he and other Nato leaders gather for a summit.

At talks in Brussels with Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg, he said it was a "very bad thing for Nato" that Germany was "totally controlled by Russia".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-44780489

Of course it wouldn't be President Trump if it was factually accurate:

He suggested 70% of Germany's gas imports were Russian but the latest official figure was actually 50.75%.

His thinking is "interesting" to say the least:

"Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will be getting from 60 to 70% of their energy from Russia, and a new pipeline, and you tell me if that's appropriate because I think it's not and I think it's a very bad thing for Nato."

It sounds like the reverse to me. As one of Russia's biggest clients, and a major source of hard currency, they have considerable leverage over Russia.

What is he suggesting? Germany stops imports from Russia and then does what?
Germany leaves NATO?
USA leaves NATO?

Where is he going with all this?

Putin must be laughing his head off.

I think it's that Germany:

- Stops importing gas from Russia and gets it from the US instead *
- Ups its defence spending to at least 2%
- Most importantly, never says anything mean to or about President Trump

* - which protects US jobs and helps to correct the trade imbalance

But of course I am thinking. President Trump on the other hand just seems to say whatever comes into his head.

There is a commitment to up defence spending to at least 2% by 2024.
It is on target.

Trump conflates NATo, the EU and international trade.

he is a moron.

Putin will be in fits over this. He is watching NATO destroy itself right in front of his eyes.
