Stormy Daniels Sues the President

According to CNN, a Russian oligarch is suspected of funneling the amounts used for the hush money to Cohen through an American shell corporation.

My thoughts about this case have changed. I used to think it was a funny scandal that made Trump look terrible and put Cohen in jail. I'm starting to suspect that this one-time payment to a porn star may be the thread that starts to unravel a decades-long money-laundering operation between New York real estate developers and the Russian government/mob.

I can't even begin to comprehend the number and variety of crimes committed by all parties involved, including a sitting president. By the end of this, there will be permanent changes to corporate, LLC, real estate, and securities laws. And that'll just be the after-effects. First will come the civil forfeitures. If this only ends with Trump resigning and going back to real estate, it will be a miracle for him.

If so I will be very depressed, I want the POS in jail for the rest of his unnatural life!!!!!

Not me. I want him in the White House up to the 2020 elections, and then to be wheeled out at Republican conventions through the remainder of his dotage.

Giuliani's Hannity interview now looks to me like an attempt to put out a less damaging fiction first.

And Trump's teasers about the Iran deal as well.

Sounds like Avenatti discovered the evidence of the Russian’s payments to Cohen.

Indeed.

Yet this, and so many other unfortunate things, such as massive theft of aid to third-world nations; human, drug, and animal trafficking; corruption by public and private persons; and mind-boggling levels of tax evasion, could all be dealt with much, much better by closing all financial havens and making all financial accounts anywhere have an obligatory tie to a physical person, either the owner, or someone with power of attorney with corporate statutes so authorizing (personally obliged to pay taxes and respond for crimes, if no one else does). As much as forty-five trillion dollars offshore, and counting (first one to clue me in was a billionaire in the early 1990's, as a way of explaining how flows of this dark capital create one bubble after another).

You'd think at first blush that righteous law-and-order types would be all over this issue. Then you blush at the yawning chasm between holy word and foul deed.

So it was the russians who paid off Stormy. Hmm isn't that more illegal than Trump doing it?

That's what I was alluding to in post #3539

Hannity didn't make a gaffe, he was putting forward a somewhat damming story to hide the truth.

Trump has somewhat skirted the Emoluments Clause with arguments about money being exchanged for services (or realty) from corporations and LLCs of which he is a beneficiary. But his team has gone out of its way to emphasize that these were personal payments regarding Trump the individual, not the candidate. Presumably, they were positioning themselves for a "campaign contribution" defense. In doing so, they may have boxed themselves in to a much, much worse scenario.

Now, some sort of argument is already being put together that it was an American company that paid Cohen and, thus, not a foreign emolument. But when the numbers of the payments out to Cohen's LLC and the money put into the American shell by the Russians match, that argument becomes very hard to believe at best. In fact, it now adds money laundering to the list. Russian money that would have otherwise been an illegal gift to a president was washed through an American company and Cohen's little LLC side-project before ultimately benefiting Trump.

As I said, the sheer variety of possible crimes is astonishing. At this point, I'd almost be surprised if Bill Cosby and OJ somehow weren't involved.

It seems clear that Avenatti issued a subpoena for the bank activity, and I cannot believe that Cohen's people did not object to it.

It's like giving a thirsty man more water than he could ever drink in a lifetime, amirite ???

Yes indeed Thirsty has managed to confirm that Cohen got the cash to pay Stormy from a home equity loan.

Way to shoot off your own dick, Michael.
