You know... I don't see the joke involving Sanders's eye liner as a swipe at her looks. To me, Wolf wasn't saying anything negative about her appearance.

They can't rightfully complain that the members of the audience were the real targets of the joke in their complicity in not calling her on her shameless lying.

I don't really care to watch the WHCD roast, but on a related subject, I'm quite torn about how best to use Trump's personality against him. If he keeps getting bated, he keeps getting crazier. Sooner or later the crazy has to become apparent, right? At least that's what I took away from watching Thursday's Fox and Friends appearance. Get him ranting - it doesn't take much - and he'll lash out in ways that can seriously hurt him, and even make his Fox News cheerleaders uncomfortable.

On the other hand I find the high road preferable, for my own reasons. Previous digs at Trump at the WHCD only energized him.

I don't think I wish the man any harm, personally - I don't want him to suffer, but if some health problem forced him to step aside, even temporarily, I would be greatly relieved. Whipping his supporters into a froth of resentment, to the point where any Trump critic is an enemy of the people, is not good for the country and I'd like to see that resentment lose some momentum. I think it might, without Trump's constant encouragement.

On the plus side, maybe he'll fire Sessions for failing to reform the Justice Department.

It's pretty obvious, using Senator Jon Tester as an example, that The Dunce will attempt to destroy anyone who doesn't obey The King. Trump nominates Ronny Jackson to be secretary of Veterans Affairs. The nomination goes to the Senate Veterans Affairs committee to be vetted. Active and retired military personnel contact the committee to contend Jackson would be a bad appointee. For one thing it sounds like he has a substance abuse problem compounded by heavy drinking. Tester says the committee will investigate these allegations. Trump reacts by calling Tester dishonest and sick, calls for him to resign and says he should be voted out of office if he doesn't.

The Dunce's dirtbaggery is off the charts. But I'll say this for him, he certainly has the dirtbag vote sewed up in a way no other elected official has ever come close to doing. Hey if you're a dirtbag, this is your guy! He expresses your dirtbag views in a way no other president has ever done. And that no other president is ever even likely to come close to doing. This is dirtbag heaven. ;)

This is so weird. I was thinking about Tester when I wrote the post. The problem with Ronny Jackson was with Trump, not Tester. Jackson was grossly unqualified to be the head of the VA. That's really not a knock on Jackson, but on Trump. For all Trump's talk about getting the best people, his White House has proved to be the worst at getting highly qualified to work for it. It was a great opportunity for Jackson, (who could blame him?) but it was a show of more incompetence from Trump.

Tester and other members of the Senate were just doing their jobs of vetting candidates. Something this WH has proven remarkably horrible at doing.

I don't always pay that much attention to American politics. Perhaps you can remind me of some of the statements Obama made which were on a par with the ones Trump makes? Perhaps start with Obama mocking the disabled.

Maybe you ought to spend some time watching Bill Maher. Besides, Trump mocks plenty of people on the liberal side, most of them look and act like they have an extra chromosome anyway.

stay classy

My mistake and I stand corrected.

I just had it on in the background and could have sworn I heard a dig at her weight. I just read that part of the transcript, and it was all in my head.

Yet another example of flawed human cognition!

I think the confusion comes from when she (ostensibly) said "burning the facts" but it sounded like "burning the fats", which is what I thought. I didn't even get the "smoky eye" joke.

MSNBC played a montage of Suckabee telling the press they were liars over and over.

I don't know if "burning fat" is fat shaming anyway, but it appears she said burning the facts. (Thanks alfaniner.) The other joke comparing Suckabee to the Handmaid's Tale character was about the character's role, not her weight. The character is an evil enforcer of the regime, and isn't particularly fat.

The abortion jokes were about hypocrisy, pro-life GOP legislators who paid for their mistresses' abortions. Fair game.

As for name calling, good grief, Trump is the name-caller in chief. The hypocrisy of the Trump team and Trump supporters criticizing a comedian is huge, the hugest hypocrisy ever.

That just leaves the tree falling on Conway which was clarified as just to keep her in place. I thought that joke fell flat anyway.

That's what I heard too. It didn't make sense. Was she lying so much it was like fat-burning exercise?

It’s wasnt illegal at all. It’s something no prosecutor would touch. Where have we heard that before?

We don't know if it was legal or not. If there was an agreement to go easy on Russian sanctions in exchange for dirt on Clinton, and that comes out, Trump is finished.

The optics of it were terrible. I know what your reaction would have been had Chelsea Clinton met with a Kremlin-backed lawyer to get dirt on Trump.

Bill Maher doesn't seem to think his act is appropriate for political office. That seems to be the point.

A trip down memory lane: Trump's "roasting" of Hillary at the 2016 Al Smith charity dinner. (Trumpers said he was trying to be funny, which is probably true for the first half minute or so.)

He’s only one example from the left. If you’re looking for politicians, how about kerosene Maxine, members of Congress? Vast majority of Hollywood?
