Stormy Daniels Sues the President

They say it's a rule someone invented as a demonstration of Danth's Law.

Yeah, I guess some would say they are related, although I doubt anyone really believes that one is "declaring victory" when one repeatedly pollutes a thread with silly, ironic and distracting large emojis.

Bribes aren't malicious.

Perhaps "bribery" isn't the right word. However, if there was some sort of quid pro quo, in which Cohen said, "I will pay off Stormy in exchange for some post-election favor." that's bribery, or some other form of criminal corruption.

<snip>

More of a "pre-election" favor", but the principle is the same. He was still a politician whether he was running for office or in office.

I still think "post election" is the proper term.

I.e. Cohen might have promised something to trump before the election (pay off Stormy), so that Trump will reciprocate and do something nice for Cohen post-election (after he's in office), like nominating him to the supreme court or adding his portrait to the $130,000 bill. (Those exist, don't they?)

The Stormy Daniels scandal has become a major problem for Trump:it is not about him banging Stormy anymore but about bribery and probably other crimes. It's the cover up, rather then the original offense that gets you every time.

But the Cohen burglars were told to grab Access Hollywood stuff, not Stormy Daniels stuff.

If that matters. I don't know.

Will it take years for them to decide on bringing any charges, or will it be a hurry up right away thing?

So much depends on what they find. They'll want to build some airtight cases with serious penalties and then present what they got back to Cohen. Then simply ask Cohen to present to them a case why they shouldn't prosecute. That's what they did with Flynn. They may never charge him.

It seems like the story would be worth a shedload of money to whoever breaks it, yet they settle for what seems like paltry sums.

Maybe because the Enquirer has a better idea of what it is worth and the doorman almost none and they knew that.

"On April 3, 2017, Cohen was appointed a National Deputy Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee"

Just saying.

I'd like a job where I could pick up $30k just to stop saying "I've heard people saying ..."

That only works if what you "heard people saying" could be true. Otherwise, you'd get a letter from Michael Cohen saying "shut your **** mouth or else."

No, but it's an appointment Trump might be expected to have some influence on.

Yes, but that isn't illegal. It's NOT bribery. People do all kinds of things to land jobs that aren't illegal. Its only illegal if it's a quid pro quo on a government action and even that is hard to prove.
