The Trump Presidency (Act V - The One Where Everybody Dies)

Companies make all sorts of claims about the efficacy of their services. Cambridge Analytics may be claiming that they won the election for President Trump but that could be a huge exaggeration, or indeed a complete lie.

Indeed. We can't make any judgement until we've seen the programme itself.

That same “gut” led to the failures of Trump University, Trump Vodka and monumental losses in Atlantic City casinos. Not to mention his original staff choices.

Was Trump University a failure? It made a lot of money and he didn't have to pay most of it back after all. You have to use the proper metrics for success and failure in this case. As long as the losses are not on his balance sheet all those can count as successes.

Has anyone added up how much of Other People's Money he has lost? It certainly helped his own balance sheet to deduct their losses from his taxes.

According to Cambridge Analytica whistleblower Christopher Wylie they were testing slogans and platforms in 2014

While it seems that most people have seized on the fact that this discredits the idea recently touted by Trump that Russian hacking in 2014 couldn't have had anything to do with him because it was before he was thinking about running, that's actually old news to anybody who's been paying attention. The most interesting thing for me, especially in light of some recent posts in this thread, is that the whole idea of the "deep state" was invented for the Trump campaign. I mean, I don't think that will come as a surprise to many here, and it was always an obviously ridiculous idea, but it's interesting to have it explicitly said that it was made up by an outside firm in order to target specific pockets of voters.

Makes sense, it is a good justification to purge out non loyalists.

Thanks, I didn't see that. It is somewhat encouraging that at least some in the conservative movement, while not opposing The Dunce and his policies publicly (at least that I'm aware of), are staying away from CPAC. That's at least some tangible sign that some conservatives aren't drinking the Trump Kool Aid.

Being a longtime registered member of the Democratic Party, this highlights one of the differences between the Democrats and the Republicans. The Democratic Party is the "big-tent" party. There are many viewpoints, many different groups, and a lot of dissent within the ranks. One local issue that comes to mind that illustrates this was the differing opinions within the local party (and members) about Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "Stop-and-Frisk" strategy for the New York City Police Department. Some local elected officials (Democrats) defended it because "it works." Others derided it as patently discriminatory and creating a 'police state' atmosphere in neighborhoods where it was used a lot. Others (including party members like me) saw both sides and were "undecided."

The Republican Party seems much more monolithic. As Dumpster demonstrates daily, they don't seem to respect differing views, at least not publicly. They have a party line and elected officials and Party members are expected to "obey it."

There is one group I now hate worse then Trump; The spineless GOP in Congress.
They just confirm my devout belief in Term Limits. If you know you are only going to be there for three or four terms, and are not going to make a career of being in Congress, maybe you will more willing to take a stand requiring some courage.
I believe in Democracy, but also think occasionally the voters need to be protected from themselves, and I think the whole "Every congressman is a thief except for my guy",which leads to congressmen being relected time after time after time syndrome needs to be stopped.

Rumor mills have started up. All sorts of idle gossip about the reason for the divorce.

From: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...Jr-wants-divorce-hes-cheap-sources-claim.html
Vanessa Trump is divorcing the president's eldest son because he 'treats her like a second-class citizen', sources have said in new explosive claims. Donald Trump Jr's wife and the mother of his five children is kept on a budget so tight that she has to ask her mom for help...

From: http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-jr-affair-aubrey-oday-during-vanessa-pregnancy-report-2018-3
Donald Trump Jr., allegedly cheated on his wife with a contestant on "Celebrity Apprentice" for months while his wife Vanessa was pregnant...

From: http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-jr-twitter-vanessa-divorce-2018-3
...Vanessa and Trump Jr.'s marital problems were related to his travels and controversial tweets. Trump Jr. raised eyebrows when he liked the pair of tweets about the Parkland, Florida survivor, who had been at the center of a number of conspiracy theories following the tragic event. The second tweet was later deleted by its author, but it suggested that the survivor, David Hogg, was "running cover for his dad" who formerly served as an FBI agent in the Miami field office.

So folks... pick your poison. Normally divorce is not a thing to be happy about. But given how toxic the Trump clan is, its hard to have sympathy (at least for the adults in the group.)

Tonight Channel 4 is showing the second half of their Cambridge Analytical program.

It will show Cambridge claiming that they won the election for Trump and explaining how they did so.

Trump must going bonkers over it.

An assessment of the ethics of the Trump administration, by someone who used to teach ethics to federal officials:
With the plethora of scandals coming out of this White House, it can be hard to process them all. It’s important not to treat the latest revelations about the NDA or any other scandal as just one more item on a list, forgotten after the next staffing fiasco or outrageous tweet. Taken together, Trump’s actions add up to something more: a president who isn’t committed to the fundamental principle that government exists to serve the public.

To adapt one of Trump's favorite stories, she knew he was a snake when she married him. It took her 12 years and five kids to have second thoughts? No sympathy here.
