Cont: The Trump Presidency Part IV

He's referring to the meeting where he had to be reminded of his own policy (and threats), right?

What I like about this story is the remarkable disconnect with human nature. Who, in the history of the world, has watched a meeting and later proclaimed it one of the greatest meetings ever held, going so far as to contact and congratulate the chair?

Whoa, what a totally kickass meeting, dude! Totally pumped just watching it! Wow.

He's doing a great job this week dispelling the notion put forward by the Wolff book that he's mentally unfit for office. Forgetting his positions on DACA and FISA and advocating contrary positions.

I think it is a mistake to claim that he "forgot" his position on DACA.

It wasn't that he didn't know what his position was (or supposed to be), it was just that he didn't understand what they were talking about. For example, when they talked about having a "clean" bill, he didn't know what that meant, and thought it just meant what he wanted.

This lawmaking stuff is hard, ok? And they use big words and he doesn't know what they mean. There weren't enough pictures.

How is he supposed to pay attention when it is not about him?

I haven't read the book... Did he claim he interviewed the cabinet members? Because if he never claimed to have talked to anyone in the Cabinet then its not really a "gotcha".
Even though he attributes "revelations" to cabinet members in his book.
He would not have had to directly interview cabinet members to get an impression of what was happening. Interviews with staff members and advisors who were privy to various meetings and interactions within the white house would work, if the individuals involved in the interview were accurate with what they saw.

Just because its second-hand knowledge doesn't mean its inaccurate.

Maybe when he conducts the Fake News Awards, the Very Stable Genius will reveal the letters written to him by news anchors saying how awesome his meeting was.

I'm around 55% through, according to Kindle, and I don't recall cabinet members being discussed beyond things like "Bannon wants this guy for a cabinet post, but Kushner wants that guy" statements. I certainly don't recall revelations being attributed to them. But then, I still have 45%-ish of the book to go.

At this point, the main characters of this book are Bannon and Kushner, with brief side stories about others who come and go.

Finished listening to the book yesterday.

I did not get the impression he had necessarily sat down with cabinet members for interviews. I assumed the attributions of what was said came from third parties who overheard the comments.

I found the picture painted by the book believable and consistent with what has been leaking out or tweeted by the President over the last year. I do not expect books like this to be without error, and a few errors do not eliminate the overall gist of what is presented.

Last Sunday’s Reliable Sources podcast was mostly devoted to the book, and probably worth a listen.

As an aside, I think you can get a free trial on Audible.com, and use your credit to buy the book. Then cancel before your first payment is due, if you don’t anticipate buying more audiobooks.

Jesus Christ. That sounds like an internment camp. I wonder if the dormitories will have suicide nets outside the windows like Chinese factories and associated dormitories do for when the workers can't deal with the terrible working conditions? I can't imagine labourers being paid a fifth of what they are will have better working conditions.
That article is from a year ago. I wonder how construction is coming along? Maybe they changed their mind.

From the comments:
We warn the president’s daoughter not to move her company to ethiopia under Tigray TPLF continuing ethnic cleansings against non Tigraya ethnic group as Ethiopia is in chaos and her company will be under constant attacks.
They are going to build shoes factory around rivers whereby cyanide flows in to the rivers and killing people as ot happened previously.
In the events it happens in Oromia we as Oromo people have to put in lines of legitimate targets to burn it down
sure she is mislead by the Dictators in Ethiopia. She probably did not know the land was confisicated from poor farmers. She probably does not know the cheap labour is that of the farmers who owned the land or their families.. She probably did not know that is intentionally done by so called government but really armed rebel movement from minority ethnic group

So, in other words, the accusation by theprestiege that the book's author is a liar because he admitted "never interviewed cabinet members" is itself a lie.

Re: Ivanka's plans for her show factory...
That is why the company is building a ‘light industrial city’ shaped like a woman’s shoe in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, he said. The sprawling campus will feature factories, dormitories, a hotel and a hospital, all bounded by a replica of the Great Wall.

I cannot speak to the specifics of Ivanka's plans.

However, in general, I would not necessarily dismiss such a self-contained community so easily. Ethiopia is a country with significant problems. (Their economy is growing but they do have low wages. And while their unemployment rate has been dropping, its still over 16%.) A self-contained community might help provide some employment, as well as security for the workers. (I say 'might' because we don't know the specifics of the situation.)

As for the wages... it is easy to complain about the low pay given to people in places like China/Ethiopia. But what is the alternative? If wages were competitive with those in the western world, then companies would have no incentive to employ people in the developing world, and instead of working for low wages, the people might be. Neither situation is ideal, but it does suggest that there are no easy answers.

As for Ivanka, given the protectionist politics of her father (that she seems to completely support), I think she deserves to be held up as a huge hypocrite.

But then again, considering his source may be a bit biased (the You Tube poster's screen name is "POTUS Trump MAGA",) it shouldn't be a surprise...:(
