Cont: The Trump Presidency Part IV

What is most interesting is that you can see he thinks the cheering is for him.

I lived in East Germany during the late 1980s. This reminds me of Erich Honecker's moment of realization, as he was waving to a huge chanting crowd, assuming they were praising him... and an assistant whispers something in his ear, his expression changes to shock.

They were all chanting "Gorby. Gorby."

His own pep rally, and they were chanting for it all to end.

For a moment, Democrats thought they had struck an unexpected deal with President Trump. Trump had previously insisted that any deal protecting "dreamers" — undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children — should also include border security and/or a border wall. But he now says that he would support a “clean” bill protecting dreamers, and then take up comprehensive immigration reform later.

“What about a clean DACA bill now, with a commitment that we go into a comprehensive immigration reform procedure?” asked Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). Trump responded: “Yeah, I would like to do that. I think a lot of people would like to see that.”

The problem? Trump didn't know what “clean DACA bill” meant. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) quickly interjected and made clear that Trump believes a “clean” bill would include border security. Except that's not at all what a clean bill is; that's a compromise bill. A clean bill, by definition, only has one component to it.

By the end, Trump sought to clarify things. “I think a clean DACA bill to me is a DACA bill, but we take care of the 800,000 people,” he said. “But I think to me, a clean bill is a bill of DACA — we take care of them, and we also take care of security.”

...

Even by the end of the meeting, Trump seemed to indicate that the border wall isn't necessarily a must-have for him — becoming just the latest iteration in a dizzying series of back-and-forths on what he wants in a DACA deal.

“I think my positions are going to be what the people in this room come up with,” Trump said. He added: “I'm not going to say, 'Oh, gee, I want this,' or 'I want that.' I will be signing it.”

That's one *********** stable genius and master negotiator right there if i ever saw one.

I've been a little surprised that Trump hasn't offered Arpaio a job already. Maybe something with ICE, the Border Patrol or the DEA. He'd be a nightmare, of course, but he'd be the kind of nightmare that a lot of Trump's base would love.

He could make Arpaio a czar of something, like maybe a "border czar" or something. ICE or Border Patrol would have Joe on the Hill testifying as they have statutory responsibilities and reporting requirements to Congress.

I'd sooner send my money to Jimmy Swaggart, at least he puts on a good show.

At least Oral Roberts had the courtesy to say if you don't pay up he was the one that would receive God's wrath.

Time time machine:
In 1987, television preacher Oral Roberts made a dramatic appeal. If his supporters did not send donations totaling $8 million dollars within three months, he warned that God would "call me home." There were those who complained that Roberts was extorting his viewers and using the Deity as an accomplice, but there was no doubting his charisma — or his results. Roberts received over $9 million, and God did not call him home.

The idea is that by eating food that is made before it was ever known it would be him eating it they can not target him for poisoning.

This is paranoid but not entirely illogical.

It's either delusional and a symptom of a serious mental illness that should disqualify him from being president. Or, it's entirely rational, meaning he's dealing with people who poison their adversaries (organized crime, Russia) and should disqualify him from being president.

Conjecture #2: Is this the first time he has appeared somewhere he has actually been booed by some of the audience (that he could hear)? Perhaps he was curled up in the fetal position somewhere.

And hid his head up his own rectum!!!

Its should also be noted that its not just a belief in god (i.e. faith) which is an issue.... its that these people believe in a "prosperity gospel" (i.e. donate to your church and you will become wealthy). Such a concept isn't even in the bible that these people claim to believe in.
There's a lot of transactional stuff in the Old Testament, normally read in a spiritual sense, of course, but the principle's established. Just don't mention Job ...

If these people claimed "I believe in god", and spent their time doing charity work (i.e. the type of thing that the mythical jebus would have wanted) it probably wouldn't be as much of an issue. At least they'd be paying attention to what the bible actually said.
They're being presented with what the bible actually says in a particular way, including chapter and verse so they can check in their own King James version (the actual bible, doncha know).

But instead they double down on their stupidity, not only believing in god (for which there is no evidence) but falling for an obvious scam artist (i.e. the preachers who are wealthy).
Yes, they are wealthy. You want to be wealthy. Who else's advice are you going to take? The pan-handler at the church door?

"White House officials made the unusual decision Tuesday to allow cameras to film a nearly hour-long immigration meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers. They probably wish they hadn't."
One wonders which officials made this unusual decision, and to what end. Trump was never going to come across well, and he was going to give hostages to fortune.

Are we entering the end-game? Probably not, but it's damned odd.

Which budget though?

During the election campaign, he initially claimed the wall would cost $4 billion, then $8 billion. Then later in the campaign it went up to $12 billion.

Also, Mexico was paying for the wall. For some reason, Trumpublicans no longer mention this and neither does the media.

Feinstein just released the Fusion GPS transcripts.

This should be interesting.
Of course the Republicans are already trying to make it all about the release and not at all about the content, while dragging in the Steele dossier which was paid for by Hillary Clinton, you know. It's like they've engaged auto-pilot so they can spend more time with their opiates. Sweet sweet opiates ...

And therein Feinstein goes from hero to legend.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::D

One of Trump's plans to artificially subsidize that coal industry have failed.
If it failed it can't have been Trump's plan, can it? It was somebody else's plan, which Trump happened to mention without attribution. Probably one of Bannon's. Such a loser.

He had originally planned to force power generating utilities to maintain a certain amount of fuel to prevent electricity shortages. (This would mean more coal and nuclear plants, since they can stockpile fuel, whereas solar/wind/natural gas cannot'.) But regulators (including those appointed by trump!) voted against the regulations.
The Resistance is inside the house!

I read some recent articles about what may have motivated the almost-majority of voters who cast their ballot for Trump. One political scientist said the white vote -- fairly strong across age groups, educational levels and regions -- resembled minority group voting more than anything else and that may explain a lot. I saw a more recent story that Trump's appeal to many white voters is cultural, not political. That explains why, despite Trump failing to do much of what he promised to do, he hasn't had a backlash from supporters. They said a statement that resonates with many Trump supporters is: "Increasingly I feel like a stranger in my own country." That if someone agrees with that statement they're almost certain to be a Trump voter.

A recent experience brought this all home for me. A woman who works as an attendant at a nearby laundromat, a white middle-aged woman who adores The Donster. One afternoon a couple weeks ago I stopped by to wash some work clothes. She was talking with another woman and she was very angrily venting about the recent spate of sexual harassment cases. She angrily said the women who complained were phony as hell. "They put out and they didn't get all they wanted. They're a bunch of sluts!" I thought that was a really stupid reaction, some of the behavior complained about seemed pretty nasty and some of the women complaining seemed like pretty decent people, but she was really upset. In fact, she reminded me of another gal who was a bigtime Trump supporter. They could be sisters.
.

She sounds like a terrible person unworthy of life. I advise you to scream that at her the next time you see her.

The sooner we just get the upcoming civil war started the sooner we can get it over.
