Cont: The Trump Presidency Part IV

I simply see nothing wrong with taking something on faith as long as you admit it is an act of faith. I don't do it personally.
Once again... its not just religious faith, its the fact that people are falling for a very obvious con, using a concept (prosperity gospel) which isn't even in the bible that they profess to believe in.

He's trolling.

Nah, he's ranting like a child.

Trolling is when the New Yorker contacted Bannon's office to ask for his comment on Anthony Scaramucci's accusation that Bannon sucked his own cock. That was trolling.

Trump ranting? That's just reinforcing the image of him as an immature, unstable idiot.

Trump just said that the wall can be built in a year well under budget.

He's famous for building ahead of schedule and under budget.

Trump just said that the wall can be built in a year well under budget.
Which budget though?

During the election campaign, he initially claimed the wall would cost $4 billion, then $8 billion. Then later in the campaign it went up to $12 billion.

Now, he's asking for $18 billion. And that won't even do the entire border. There are supposedly ~1200 miles of unfenced border. The $18 billion would only bring up the number of miles of barrier to ~1000, meaning there would still be hundreds of miles of unfenced border.

Republicans once said it would cost $12-15 billion to build the wall. The Department of Homeland security said ~$22 billion. Another study published by MIT Review gave a cost of between $27 and $40 billion. Democrats say the cost could be as high as $70 billion.

It would be easy to do. Just do like he did when he ran his business.

Build the wall, then stiff the contractors you hired to build it, challenging them to sue you.

Quite a few, about half of the mileage being proposed is replacing older fences with the TrumpWall. So figure at least another 20 billion needed for the rest, especially as it is likely to be in less hospitable terrain.

A leap of faith is under no obligation to conform to dicta.

And once again... a major problem is not just that people have faith, but they are falling for the con of "prosperity gospel", that doesn't even follow the guidance of the bible they pretend to believe in.

I'm not really sure why that concept is so confusing to you. What about that do you not under stand?

One of Trump's plans to artificially subsidize that coal industry have failed.

He had originally planned to force power generating utilities to maintain a certain amount of fuel to prevent electricity shortages. (This would mean more coal and nuclear plants, since they can stockpile fuel, whereas solar/wind/natural gas cannot'.) But regulators (including those appointed by trump!) voted against the regulations.

Are we tired of winning yet?

From: http://money.cnn.com/2018/01/08/investing/ferc-ruling-coal-nuclear/index.html
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission dismissed Energy Secretary Rick Perry's call to subsidize power plants like coal and nuclear that maintain a 90-day supply of fuel on site.
...
The independent agency, which is run by bipartisan commissioners appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, faced a Wednesday deadline to rule on the matter.

Can I just cut to the end of the bobbing? "Con men are perfectly fine because no one makes the mark fall for it." "That's a stupid thing to believe." "Yes it is, but it's ideologically pure."

There, bobbing over.

Trump and McMaster want to make a bloody nose attack on North Korea and hope it doesn't escalate to war. Tillerson and Mattis have been urging against it.

When war breaks out I think we should institute a Trump supporter draft.

Why would a draft be needed?

Surely true Trump supporters would be lining up to volunteer as an expression of their fervent patriotism. MAGA in action.

Feinstein just released the Fusion GPS transcripts.

This should be interesting.

I read some recent articles about what may have motivated the almost-majority of voters who cast their ballot for Trump. One political scientist said the white vote -- fairly strong across age groups, educational levels and regions -- resembled minority group voting more than anything else and that may explain a lot. I saw a more recent story that Trump's appeal to many white voters is cultural, not political. That explains why, despite Trump failing to do much of what he promised to do, he hasn't had a backlash from supporters. They said a statement that resonates with many Trump supporters is: "Increasingly I feel like a stranger in my own country." That if someone agrees with that statement they're almost certain to be a Trump voter.

A recent experience brought this all home for me. A woman who works as an attendant at a nearby laundromat, a white middle-aged woman who adores The Donster. One afternoon a couple weeks ago I stopped by to wash some work clothes. She was talking with another woman and she was very angrily venting about the recent spate of sexual harassment cases. She angrily said the women who complained were phony as hell. "They put out and they didn't get all they wanted. They're a bunch of sluts!" I thought that was a really stupid reaction, some of the behavior complained about seemed pretty nasty and some of the women complaining seemed like pretty decent people, but she was really upset. In fact, she reminded me of another gal who was a bigtime Trump supporter. They could be sisters.

Wait, what? Is he running for the senate? Off to Politico, I guess.

It's a no win for The Hair. His base will expect him to support Crazy Joe but Crazy Joe is unelectable in a statewide race. The Hair needs to offer Joe a high profile job that does nothing in exchange for getting out of the race.

I've been a little surprised that Trump hasn't offered Arpaio a job already. Maybe something with ICE, the Border Patrol or the DEA. He'd be a nightmare, of course, but he'd be the kind of nightmare that a lot of Trump's base would love.
