Split Thread Scorpion's Spiritualism

Interesting.

Do you need to know where your destination is relative to your starting point or can you think of any destination and if it exists somewhere then you go there? If you think of a place that doesn't exist will it be created by your thought, or will you go into empty space, or will nothing happen? How about the implications for causality by exceeding the speed of light? Could this make time travel possible for spirits?

Your'e getting into some heavy stuff there jrhowell. That time travel notion occurred to me also but you beat me to it.

I don't know about travelling in time, but there is supposedly a record of everything that happens, both past and future, and it can be accessed by advanced spirits.

Again interesting.

Does that mean everything is predetermined and there is no free will? Some spirits know what is bound to happen and are unable to do anything except what they know they are destined to do?

Some things are predestined.
I know I have run out of milk and bread and I will have to go out in the rain to get some :(

But you don't know with absolute certainty whether or not your car will break down first or a neighbor will happen to stop by to drop off some extra milk they had on hand.

The spirits in this scenario have certain knowledge of the future and are powerless to change it. It was known from the start that Scorpion would be given that lottery win.

Well he can be comforted by the thought that if he is in a terrible accident on his journey and suffers catastrophic injuries that leave him "locked in" for the next 50 years, it's all for the good....

As a matter of fact you reminded me that the spirit world once saved me from what could have been a serious accident/murder attempt. I parked my motor cycle in a side street, and while I was away someone tampered with my brakes.

I got on the bike and the clutch lever was loose so it popped into my mind to check the bike over. I found the back brake was completely undone.

Normally I would have blasted down to the cross roads at the end of the street and braked to stop at the junction, and If I had no brakes I could very well have been killed or maimed. But something in my head warned me to check the bike over. I believe it was the spirit world that warned me.

Maybe they can make small changes that alter the future.

So it had nothing to do with......

I got on the bike and the clutch lever was loose so it popped into my mind to check the bike over.

I've ridden motorbikes for thirty years and if I thought my clutch had been tampered with of course I'd check the brakes. Even if the clutch hadn't been tampered with I squeeze the front brake while taking the bike off it's stand and depress the foot brake when starting the engine. Once again your evidence for the supernatural has simple non magical explanations.

I did not know the clutch had been tampered with until I found the brake undone. I just though the clutch cable was sticking. Its the way the idea of checking the bike over popped into my head that made me think it was from the spirit world.

Find something wrong with your bike. Think to check your bike. Credit spirits, rather than having the teeniest bit of common sense.

If someone had been messing with your bike there would have been all sorts of clues that you might not have consciously noticed but would have been subconsciously aware of. Just the fact that it was in a slightly different position to how you left it would have been enough for your subconscious to signal that something was wrong. That's the reason the idea of checking it "popped into" your head. Nothing to do with spirits.

It doesn't even need to be subconscious, as he's explicitly said that he noticed something was wrong with the bike.

As P.J. Denyer already stated, you need to use your brakes when getting on and starting up, it would be obvious to me if my bike was even slightly different although I have to admit in normal riding I hardly ever use my back brake, mainly just to hold the bike on a hill start or at an uphill junction. Sometimes to feather into a bend or keep it straight in the wet. When I am riding fast and twisty the back can be useful to encourage a bit of drift but only when I am feeling brave.
Now, a bad front brake would be a different matter.

Shhhhh. There's no place for reality or the blindingly obvious in this discussion.

Obviously Scorpion needs his spirits because he's oblivious to the state of his bike, unlike every other biker I've ever known.

These spirits are rather selective aren't they. Can't say I've ever got the tip off from one of them. Would have been handy a few times in the past, when I suffered and injury as a result of being unaware.

Scorpion is also a mobster in a cheap TV movie. That's why someone tried to get rid of him by messing with his brakes. Thanks, Spirits!

Why on earth would you want to have avoided the suffering? That's for your own good.

Indeed I think Scorpion has been a victim of mallicious spirits as it seems time and time again they interfere to prevent him learning what he needs to learn which means he won't evolve in the spirit world.

First you say this which is perfectly logical for anyone to have happen....

Then you either lie saying that you did not notice the clutch until after you magically checked the brake or................you just proved to us(and hopefully yourself) how fallible your memory actually is.

Yea ! fifty years of the various forms of schizophrenia have taught me nothing.
Maybe, as you suggested I deserve fifty years of paralysis. That would teach me not to believe in the ultimate good. Because I obviously have not suffered enough to learn to think pessimistically like you.
