Agree with SG. Spindrift, the delay is the huge tell here. He could've claimed victory weeks earlier if he was just going to go into his usual feeble-minded spin on things. I'd guess they pulled the original statement and delayed because they were trying to ready an explanation. And it would've worked, too, if not for those meddling kids the big baby in the oval office drawing far more attention to it than it might've otherwise gotten.

I don't think Trump had any part in the machinations. Does anyone think he even knows where Chad is or that it's a country? He thinks "Chad" is the tennis pro at Mar-A-Lago.

Lawrence O'Donnell had that angle covered following Maddow's program. Quite the double header tonight. Unlike Fox New's The Five that followed the attack Rep Wilson narrative.

I mean, a racist's rant against their target minority could also be described as "sincere and heartfelt", but that alone shouldn't justify attempts to view their words as a simply inadequate attempt to convey a positive idea.

When White House Chief of Staff John Kelly condemned a Miami congresswoman on Thursday for sneering at President Donald Trump’s condolence call to a soldier’s widow, the retired general recalled when the two attended a somber ceremony in Miramar to dedicate a new FBI building named after two slain FBI agents.

Kelly criticized Democratic U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson for claiming “she got the money” for the new building during the 2015 ceremony while he and others in the audience were focused on the heroism of agents Benjamin Grogan and Jerry Dove, killed during a 1986 shootout with bank robbers south of Miami.

Thursday night, Wilson said Kelly got the story flat-out wrong. In fact, she said Washington approved the money before she was even in Congress. The legislation she sponsored named the building after Grogan and Dove, a law enacted just days before the ceremony.

“He shouldn't be able to just say that, that is terrible,” Wilson said of Kelly’s remarks in the White House briefing room, the latest volley in the controversy over Trump’s condolence call to a military widow from Miami Gardens, an area Wilson represents. “This has become totally personal.”

I'm not sure if I suggested otherwise. He certainly didn't back up Trump's allegations in any way at all.

Again, Trump said that the congresswoman made it all up. Not only was it totally fake but he had proof of this. If anything Kelly only excused Trump for being insensitive because it's difficult and quite honestly could people expect him to manage something that delicate?

Are people still clinging to the "noble warrior, protecting the country from its President" narrative or are they starting to come over here to the dark side ?

Kelly's words and actions have looked like those of at least an enabler, and increasingly like those of an active participant, in the Trump Administration's complete disregard for protocol, decency and facts.

A "noble warrior" wouldn't have remained silent while The President dragged up the death in action of the warrior's son in an attempt to score some political points - particularly when The President lied about the previous Commander-in-Chief's actions with respect to it. A "noble warrior" wouldn't engage in the partisan smearing of a representative with a long history of working for the benefit of her constituents by spreading lies about her.

This is all part of the He's So Awful syndrome that has had considerate moderates back in the primary season,... rooting for Cruz.

Ted flarking Cruz! And thinking Pence was going to be or would be a better alternative. Or that Jared and Ivanka would be a sane and sobering influence. Or moaning about poor Reince losing his job. And thinking that a good sane choice for the military is a guy named Mad Dog. Or that various kleptocrats will be another sobering influence (witness: Secretary of State).

Yeah, those people haven't even looked past Kelly's c.v. to see what he did last. He was running the Lock 'em Up and Throw 'em Out program and rousting immigrants.
