Merged All things Trump + Russia

Apparently, Hannity cited the Politico story last night in his knee-jerk defense of all things Trump.

WaPo provides details here.

What's the term? Oh yeah... Nothingburger.

To summarize: Instead of Trump Jr. and campaign officials meeting directly with someone who may have directly obtained opposition research from a foreign government, they should have paid some party-loyalist "consultant" to meet with someone who obtained opposition research from a foreign government as a go-between so there would be no appearance of direct collusion by the campaign.

How else would they have obtained it?

That depends very much on what exactly the information was, doesn't it? And Trump Jr. didn't know what it was. Lots of oppo research comes from sources other than hacking.

Why should Trump Jr. have thought that this alleged information was obtained criminally? The fact that it was (again, allegedly) coming from the Russian government isn't proof of criminality. Furthermore, why should T. Jr. have called the FBI about alleged information never materialized and may never have existed?

He should have called the FBI precisely because he is in absolutely no position to make any such determination in the first place, and the FBI is the federal law enforcement agency that investigates (the "I" in "FBI) such matters. At the very least, he should have been suspicious of *any* offer of aid from *any* foreign national. The fact that it's from a foreign adversary should have set off all sorts of alarm bells in his head, that he was entering into extremely dangerous, potentially illegal and (given how Putin operates) potentially *lethal* territory. This is, like, 101 level stuff for people who have anything to do with the federal government, including any political campaign.

At the very best, he attempted to betray the US because he's a blithering idiot. At worst, he continues to be outright disloyal to the US - and given all of the other bizarre behavior coming out of the Trump syndicate, I'm going to guess it's the latter.

Isn't that one of the neo-con clique who conned you into starting the war on Iraq that devastated the whole region, killed millions of people, caused the refugee crisis and turned a couple of freaks in Afghanistan into a huge army of terrorists in more than a decade of bogus "war on terror"?

Why would anybody care what a crackpot like him thinks about anything?

HOW MUCH DOES PUTIN PAY YOU ?

Just spitballing here, but how about "because reporting a credible foreign interference with American election is in the national interest" ?

Let's see you apply that standard to Hillary's campaign and their collusion with Ukraine. This reasoning is simply pretext, nothing about the criticism is at all consistent or even honest.

The fact that it wasn't reported suggests that the Trump campaign was not prioritizing the national interest over personal interest.

Or because nothing came of it.

Well, that would still be collusion...

But you seem to be comfortable with that, I guess. *shrugs*

It's clear that change in needed at the White House because the Trump administration is a disaster. Russia meddled in the US presidential election and Trump gives Putin a pat on the back.

Yes. I'm surprised you need to be reminded of the uranium deal that Clinton's State Dept. approved, and the subsequent major donations to the Clinton Foundation. There's potentially a lot of information about that deal (and others) which the Russian government might have legal access to.

You're stretching credibility if you are claiming that claimed dirt on Clinton could reasonably come from legitimate sources.

It's irrelevant anyway. An attempt to accept aid from a foreign government to influence the elections by officials of one of the campaigns in said election is illegal.

In light of solid evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government, Trump apologists keep slinging the same innuendos and unfounded allegations at the wall hoping they'll stick...
