The Trump Presidency

I'm aware of the narrative that Trump is almost invincible with the Republican base ("I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters").
McConnell hiding his Trumpcare bill till the last moment shows the GOP knows that narrative is questionable at best.

Why? He felt he could get away with that. Now if they hold a vote and very few republicans vote for it because of this or just refuse to vote then it will be a strong statement but it seems likely they will be able to ram this through.

But, there are also folk that voted for Obama, but also voted for Toupee Fiasco. They can't claim to no endorse racial hatred, because Trump is an obvious bigot. So...really, what happened there?

Again, my view is that Trump, unlike McCain or Romney, was a straight-up white populist - the sort of guy that his voters wanted to vote for.

Again, we know a lot of people who voted for Trump.

None are racists, in any reasonable definition of the word. And they're not stupid, either.

They really do seem to articulate a vague populist reason for voting for him. "I like what he stands for." Meaning making America Great Again, bringing jobs back, that sort of thing. But not racism or misogyny*. The female friends we have who voted for Trump are still longing for a female president soon - but Hillary was not that woman.

To be clear, I don't agree with them at all and did not support nor vote for Trump. I think he's a terrible president. I just think there are many here and on the left are tilting at windmills and missing the real reasons for the Trump win and lessons to be learned from it.

*In my opinion, many Republicans would have supported Condaleeza Rice for the presidency, let's say, putting the lie to the assertion that they're knee-jerk anti-black or that Hillary lost because she's a woman.

You are asserting that Hillary's gender played no role because of a hypothetical situation in your mind that Condaleeza would have won if she ran.

....

wow

Oh, dear, Trump just keeps on boosting the economy; he's unstoppable! I may just have to rethink my opposition after this bit of news. Scum&Douche have recently announced they have completely run out of bags. MAGA!

.
Trump listed 6 countries on his travel ban.

1. Iran

2. Libya

3. Somalia

4. Sudan

5. Syria

6. Yemen

Question is, why did Trump fail to list Qatar on his Travel ban after calling Qatar a "High-level sponsor of terrorism?"

Trump Calls Qatar a ‘High-Level’ Sponsor of Terrorism

President Trump on Friday slammed Qatar for being a “high-level” sponsor of terror, ratcheting up tensions in the region even as U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson calls for dialogue to resolve the mounting crisis.

Could it be that Qatar is an ally of the United States?

or,

Trump sells Qatar $12 billion of U.S. weapons days after accusing it of funding terrorism

WASHINGTON -- While President Trump berates Qatar for sponsoring terrorism at the highest levels, he is simultaneously authorizing the country to purchase over $21 billion of U.S. weapons.

Trump is a con artist.

Well is travel ban is (partially) back on.

But, didn't he just need the 90 days to come up with a better vetting system? Shouldn't that be done by now?
He wasn't going to start until he got his ban, for some reason, probably because they found out there already is a good vetting system in place. Now that Trump has had his bluff called, he has to come up with something. Somehow, I think it will be everything that was done under Obama with a very minor tweak here and there. But of course, the old system was terrible, horrible and the new system is the best system ever devised.

No, no, you're all mixed up. Trump is selling weapons to Kway-tar. It's Kutter that's the sponsor of terrorism.

Slap the word Trump on the existing system in big gold font and it will be perfect.

Write off every Trump voter as stupid if you wish.

They would respond that its Hillary voters who are the stupid ones for buying her lies and deceit.

And both are equally wrong.
Come on, the two are not the least bit equivalent.

Can't you even be honest about Trump?
