Much as I hate interrupt the irrelevant side track with something actually pertinent but this article from the BBC contains some classic Trump:

Trumps insists he's not under investigation

So yes the whole it was because of the Comey he handled the Clinton investigation line was indeed yet another lie.

So the Donald lied comprehensively about the firing of Comey, maybe we could discuss that and the 'enthralling' discussion of the presidents powers could **** off to its own thread?

Wow. All he had to do was shut up.

We are so way off topic. But I would still take that oath. An oath BTW that the President and everyone in Congress and the Senate also take. It's not perfect. But if not the Constitution what would you follow?

Just about everybody employed by the Government has to take the oath. The Military version has some clauses added to it ("Obey all Lawful Commands by my superior Officers, etc) but the "Preserve, Protect and Defend The Consitution " Part is universal.

Senator Kamala Harris has a good point saying if Rosenstein's letter was the basis to fire the head of the FBI, it wasn't right. It needed to cite specifics, not just news accounts, it should have cited law, regulations, and/or ethical standards that were violated.

Best points I've heard on this yet.

For Trump to accuse anybody else of being a Showboat is just about the funniest thing ever.

someone on the internet is wrong.

Yep. That's my problem. It did start semi-relevant: what power does the president have with regard to firing Comey. No idea how it ended up where it did, but I definitely contributed. Apologies.

It really just seems that Trump can't take anyone getting more of the limelight than he does. I mean if he fired Comey to derail the Russia investigation that would be sort of devious, firing him because he got too much airtime is just pathetic. Trump really does thinks he's still on his TV show.

Close enough. Unbelievable.

Paging Brainster (and others). It seems like only yesterday when you accused people of delusion on par with 911 truth and birtherism for thinking that Comey's dismissal was motivated by the Trump + Russia investigation.

Depends on what those statements and those by McCabe mean.

If McCabe is a loyal FBI agent determined to do the right thing and keep the investigation going until they get all the guilty, then he's making a statement of defiance against the regime, the WH spokeswoman is pushing the Trump line, and we still have a chance.

However, if McCabe is a "Trump man", and his statement harmonizes with the WH statement, then there will be a few "little fish" arrested, they will declare the case "solved", and shut down leaving us no hope of getting the big fish (Trump, Pence, etc).

Time will tell.

He contradicted the Trump line twice, you don't do that if your Donald's lapdog.

As usual, this drives us back to the one unavoidable conclusion in all of this: and Independent Investigation is necessary.

No one can be trusted at this point. And, terrifyingly, the only way out is for enough Congressional Republicans to get fed up that they appoint a special prosecutor.

According to some guy on Twitter, Paul Manafort has something to do with the FBI raid right now on the GOP fundraising group, Strategic Campaign Group.

News link from up thread so you don't have to hunt for it.

Maybe this should be in the Russia/Trump thread. I'll post the same thing over there where it fits better.

I think every member of the administration must take an oath of Loyalty to Trump

And it seems it also includes a section on practicing public cognitive dissonance.

He and campaign adviser Roger Stone worked for them, according to various Twitter sources.
