Correct. the level of explicit connections I require to accept something is far more excessive compared to most people.

How do you manage to function in real life if you demand that level of certainty?

In some ways I admire your undoubtedly firm principles which do tend to be consistent, but they've utterly unsuited to reality, where there are uncertainties and one has to do the best on balance rather than allowimg gross wrongs in order to preserve unwarranted freedoms to abuse economic power.

I accept that most things in life im simply in the dark about.

WTF!?

A House Intelligence Committee Democrat tried to reach across the aisle to reboot the committee’s stalled Russia investigation. Republicans met his gesture with total silence.

Republicans boycotted a Wednesday briefing on Russian intelligence methods organized by Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell, who had hoped the committee’s members could gather in a bipartisan manner to hear non-controversial testimony from an expert.

Weeks ago, House Intelligence Committee staff and Swalwell reached out to a national security specialist, Naveed Jamali. In the 2000s, Jamali was a double agent in the service of the FBI after the Russian government tried to recruit him as an asset.

Every single Republican lawmaker on the House Intelligence Committee was invited to the members-only briefing on Wednesday. Not one showed.

So, the GOP is now basically plugging its ears and yelling, "LALALALA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU." That's an infantile approach.

Trump continues to deflect attention away from investigations and in my opinion, he's feeling the heat. The White House is in turmoil and Flynn is gone and there has been yet another shake-up in the White House with the demotion of Steve Bonnon and Trump hasn't even reached the 100-day mark. Trump is now accusing Susan Rice of wrong-doing with no evidence after lying about Obama wire-tapping his phone lines without evidence, and yet he claims that Bill O'Reilly did nothing wrong despite the fact that millions of dollars were paid in his case.

Trump is an idiot and ignorant of the fact that unmasking is not illegal and in fact, a common procedure. In addition, Trump has proven that he is not knowledgeable about the FISA. He talked tough about Obama's lack of action regarding Syria's use of chemical weapons so now, let's see how Trump responds to Syria's latest use of chemical weapons. The question is, will Russia prevent Trump from taking action?

Trump spent the past five years loudly saying we should leave Syria alone... complete hands off.
(except for the "red line" blunder you reference)

He's pivoted again (and not surprisingly laid the blame at Obama's feet).

Time for another "... we have always been at war with xxx."

Oops.. SG started a thread on it this morning. Have to go read it now.

Why should this surprise you at all. Exhaustive and repeated investigations into Benghazi which find nothing of note are a fine investment in freedom and democracy whereas even a cursory investigation into allegations that the Trump campaign and Trump administration had inappropriate contact with Russia is a partisan witch-hunt .

The GOP will continue to do this until there is a political price to pay for doing it, which may well be forever.

If I am reading this correctly, Nunes had cancelled all meetings. This is a democratic member unilaterally setting up the meeting. Is this correct?

One of the points of being the majority in the house is you get to chair every committee and set the schedule. This congressman acts like he is doing people a favor by scheduling a meeting, but it really just poisons the climate further. If I were placed in that situation, I would not attend either.

NBC News: House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes will temporarily step aside from the Russia investigation

Nunes statement:

“Several leftwing activist groups have filed accusations against me with the Office of Congressional Ethics. The charges are entirely false and politically motivated, and are being leveled just as the American people are beginning to learn the truth about the improper unmasking of the identities of U.S. citizens and other abuses of power. Despite the baselessness of the charges, I believe it is in the best interests of the House Intelligence Committee and the Congress for me to have Representative Mike Conaway, with assistance from Representatives Trey Gowdy and Tom Rooney, temporarily take charge of the Committee’s Russia investigation while the House Ethics Committee looks into this matter. I will continue to fulfill all my other responsibilities as Committee Chairman, and I am requesting to speak to the Ethics Committee at the earliest possible opportunity in order to expedite the dismissal of these false claims.”

Damn those leftwing activists for trying to ensure that the leader of an independent investigation is actually independent

Yes, what a novel idea to think that Nunes, Gowdy and co should be independent investigators. Typical for unworldly leftists.

Saw this on Twitter, good resume of what is happening: "The butterfly effect from one dashed-off morning tweet continues to be crazy"

I guess everyone to the left of Nunes is (in Nunes eyes)...

I'm a little confused by the Nunes statement:

"Several leftwing activist groups have filed accusations against me with the Office of Congressional Ethics.
...
while the House Ethics Committee looks into this matter."

Why isn't the independent Office of Congressional Ethics looking into this? Or are they both doing an investigation?

....and yet we've completely forgotten all about Jeff Sessions' perjury, we're no closer to finding out about the allegations regarding inappropriate contacts between the Trump campaign/administration and Russia (indeed with Nunes suspending the investigation and temporarily stepping down we're further away and a significant proportion of GOP supporters and voters think that there is some evidence that Obama was listening into the campaign.

Looks like all upside for Trump and his cronies to me :(

According to various talking heads on CNN, ethics complaints filed by outside groups happen constantly, and they rarely progress -- this is background noise. It's merely an excuse covering for Ryan taking action due to Nunes' spectacular loss of credibility.

Poisoning the climate further? You mean further than having the chairman of the investigation do everything in his power to undermine the investigation?
