Cont: President Trump: Part 3

Populism!

Companies that commit wage theft and put their workers in harm’s way just received a favor from the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump signed a bill Monday repealing a regulation that had encouraged federal contractors to follow labor laws. Under the Obama-era rule, companies with an egregious record of violating wage and safety laws would lose their government contracts if they didn’t come into compliance.

The idea behind the rule was to make sure unscrupulous employers didn’t receive taxpayer dollars. But Republicans in Congress thought the rule was too punitive and unfair to businesses. They used an arcane tool known as the Congressional Review Act in an effort to kill the regulation, which was called the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces rule.

By approving the legislation sent to him by the Senate, Trump has ensured not only that the regulation will die, but also that no similar regulation can be put forth by the Labor Department again. Trump signed the legislation at a White House ceremony in front of the press.

And to think that Trump criticized Obama for playing too much golf.

Hypocrite Trump Is Playing Golf Today, After Years of Criticizing Obama For Golfing

Yeahbut.

Trump is a power golfer. All that time is being used productively instead of wasted the way Obama did.

How else do you think Trump managed to ensure that his 'Repeal and Replace Obamacare' initiative made it through Congress smoothly and successfully as soon as he took office?

Trumps poll numbers are down below Obama's lowest ever. I forgot who said it, but to paraphrase whoever it was, "Trump's a nice guy until you get to know him."

Trump, GW denier extraordinaire, is dismantling the modest measures that Obama implemented.

Luckily for mankind, AleCcowaN is able to divine the inner workings of Trump's brain, assuring us that Trump is not actually a denier, numerous flat-out denials notwithstanding. So let's not overreact here.

Let me know if/when you'd like to revisit your whimsical concept of cherry-picking Alec.

I guess you are right! After all, Trump wasn't too worried about that phone call he received on the golf course about the status of his health care bill.

Caller: Mr. President, you have a problem.

Trump: No problem! My health care bill will pass because I'll take care of it after my next putt.

There is a good opinion piece in the Washington Post concerning how Trump does not have any sort of plan for being the president (see below).

Trump is looking more and more like a man without a plan

...

He promised he would have a health-care plan that would be cheaper and better than Obamacare and would cover just as many. But when it came time to deliver, he had nothing. He left the policy to House Speaker Paul Ryan, and the resulting proposal would have meant 24 million fewer people with health coverage. The bill collapsed in spectacular fashion under opposition from Democrats, moderate Republicans and conservatives — and Trump is blaming everybody but himself.

During the campaign, he said he had a secret plan to defeat the Islamic State. He said he had a “foolproof” plan of “defeating them quickly and effectively and having total victory.” Now, it turns out, he has no plan. He has asked the Pentagon to create one. “We will figure something out,” he said last week.

...

Having actual policies may just not be part of this president’s plan.

Oddly reminds me of the Nazi party, where everybody was so busy fighting each other in order to get to the top of the pile and impress the leader.

Hate to say it, but that is very commonplace even in democracies. FDR was notorious for allowing his cabinent members to engage in turf wars, and then coming as the arbritrator. Trick is to keep it within bounds,so it does not become dysfunctional, which is what happened in Nazi Germany.

Trump thinks his supporters are gullible and easily duped.

As Trump Flaunts Ford’s $1.2B Investment, Ford Says It Was Planned in 2015

While Trump was quick to take credit for the investment, the plan is "consistent with what we announced previously," Joe Hinrichs, Ford's President of the Americas, told NBC News, noting that all three projects were in the works well before Trump took office — the largest, involving an $850 million assembly plant investment, approved as part of a deal with the United Auto Workers Union in 2015.
