Cont: President Trump: Part 3

And just in case it wasn't clear enough, Trump tweeted earlier: "Watch @JudgeJeanine on @FoxNews tonight at 9:00 P.M."

First (and last) time I listened to that silly judge: what a terrible experience.

I had to smile when she called Ryan a RINO, though.

And I saw on her Twitter feed that Gorka was her guest: ow well.

So he gets her to attack Ryan for him. How did he know what the content of her speech was going to be?

New study shows that Trump voters are able to read... a little
They also are so tired of being ridiculed by the political class over the notion they’re digging in for Trump, more so than they normally would. Especially when they read (yes, they do read) columns in New York Magazine by former theater critic Frank Rich who takes a deep swipe at Trump’s base, writing: “While you can’t blame our new president for loving ‘the poorly educated’ who gave him that blank check, the rest of us are entitled to abstain. If we are free to loathe Trump, we are free to loathe his most loyal voters, who have put the rest of us at risk.”

Actually, I find him to be a terrible bull *******. His lies are laughably transparent, his devotion to his own gratification above all else is obvious, and his lack of intelligence apparent.
The mistake you're making here is equating a lie with ************. They are NOT the same. Take a moment to reflect on the difference.

From that article:

“I understood who I was voting for. I understood that he is loose with the truth. I wanted someone who was not a politician, and I am very satisfied with how he has conducted business in Washington when it comes to getting things done,” says Brick.

....what has President Trump actually managed to achieve so far beyond signing some Executive Orders ?

I understand that there seems to be at least some progress towards preparing to build The Wall - if not getting Mexico to pay for it - but as I understand it, there's be no progress on the other major policy platforms

The FCC is going to be very different.

Donald Trump lost no time installing Ajit Pai as the new chairman of the FCC, which regulates broadcast and internet media. Pai has stated that he opposes net neutrality, the principle whereby service providers and regulators treat all data the same. Since his appointment Pai declined to say whether he will enforce existing neutrality rules, but if these rules are overturned then the small number of companies that dominate US internet access will be permitted to promote content of their choosing, placing other content and its providers at a disadvantage.

Pai has reversed a recent FCC decision that would have opened the provision of cable set-top boxes to competition. The move allows cable companies to retain control of not only set-top boxes, but also the software and programming content passing through them. This of course runs counter to Trump’s avowed principle of helping the little guy, etc – but that is no longer a surprise. Pai also blocked a programme designed to provide internet access to rural and low-income*households.

There is potentially far more. The FCC holds sway over all telecommunications. As the newspaper and magazine industries convert to digital formats, they become dependent on services subject to FCC regulation. Given Trump’s personality, track record and various statements, it does not seem insane to worry that he might try to use the FCC to exert political pressure on the news media. It has been tried before, notably by Richard Nixon, when he was trying to persecute enemies and suppress the scandals of Watergate.

The highlighted is very concerning.

I don't subscribe to these semantics whatsoever. When you say something that's false, and you know it's false, that qualifies as a lie.

I find it telling that I don't see any pro-Trump (or anti-Hillary) posts from those I used to on Facebook. I don't think I blocked anybody...

Still, one thing I kept hearing was "Let's wait and see what he does."

We waited, we saw, we concurred.

I don't subscribe to these semantics whatsoever. When you say something that's false, and you know it's false, that qualifies as a lie.

I guess I don't fathom a distinction either.

And yet some think Clinton could somehow have won over these people if only she had been nicer to them.

To date Trump is a busted flush, no Muslim travel ban, no healthcare reform. I'm sure they will all high five when he gets his tax cuts through, even when they discover that the cuts didn't put one cent extra in their pockets and grandma isn't getting meals on wheels anymore, but hey the Managing Director at work can afford a new BMW now.

Making getting serious about mid-term elections in 2018 urgent. Democrats need to start beating the jobs drum [unstated but hinted: white jobs] and how they plan to generate them in/for the rust belt, or risk losing again. Too many noses in the winter trough right now to talk about how to best manage the summer pasture; meaning, now is not the time for high-minded "break glass ceiling" and similar social progress talk.

To combine all policies, why not start talking up blue collar jobs building infrastructure to handle rising sea levels? This has several advantages, such as making acceptance of global warming a pocket-enchancing prospect in very personal terms, and prying some of the intransigent coal region dwellers to get a move on to better opportunities, apart from getting some actual needed work done. And now that Trump has opened the way, start talking about getting Wall Street bankers to pay for those walls, especially since "them blue state rich boys ought to pay their own way." Advocating raising some taxes - if it is to put good ole boys to work - might succeed in getting some voters to align with their own natural interests and kick the apocalyptic opiates sold by the GOP.

Ah but that's always the disturbing question with Trump, does he know he's lying or has he deluded himself into actually believing much of the nonsense he spouts?

The "be nice" argument from the Right is ridiculous. As if having polite conversation with Right Wingnuts has ever worked.

Where the mind reels on healthcare is that the Republicans had years to work on this. There should have been a binder on a shelf containing their proposed healthcare law that their own party had already agreed on. The House vote should have been a foregone conclusion with a plan for a reconciliation with the Senate. They've had years to come up with a plan.

Yeah but... once the falsehood is debunked, yet it's allowed to stand, then it's clearly a lie.

Ah but not in Trump world, your just using Fake News to bring down a great man! Think of this in conspiracy theorist terms. How often on this board does some CT post a claim only to have it have it thoroughly debunked and yet still insist its true? They simply claim your part of the conspiracy and your evidence is made up. If you think of 'Trump is right' as being in the same class of idea as Apollo was a hoax or 9/11 was an inside job you can understand why exposing something Trump said as a lie has zero impact on these people.

Now of course there are people who recognize these things are lies and simply choose to ignore it for the sake of some agenda or aspiration, the Deplorables in other words.

They didn't have much else to do during that time except block everything.
