Cont: President Trump: Part 3

A number of commentators contend that Obama should sue Trump over the wiretapping accusations. It's hard for a public figure to win a libel suit, but falsely accusing an official of a serious crime and abuse of power "with reckless disregard for the truth" could certainly qualify. A case would likely take years to resolve, during which it would hang over both men's heads. Should Obama sue?

I think Obama should wait until Trump is out of the Oval Office.

And then sue him for every penny he claims he has.

I think so. Normally I would agree that former presidents should support sitting presidents, but Trump is not normal and the fact that we're even talking about this is proof of that.

It needs to be made clear that the POTUS is not above the law, and put to Trump (and his scumbag supporters) in no uncertain terms that he was elected POTUS, not god-emperor.

A whole half of them aren't racist! Sorry probably aren't racists, well that makes a world of difference. How could Clinton possible call Trump supporters deplorable when maybe half of them were only ignoring his popularity with racists, not actually being racist themselves...

...and ignoring the candidate's own racist rhetoric, which formed the bulk of its campaign.
These guys know what's up. They got Hillary's message loud and clear.

It sounds like (from what Trump and his team have said) that Obama would have grounds, but if Obama did want to take further action I would say he should aim for a formal apology.

I'd prefer a duel. Hoops at dawn, til one collapses so many times he can't get up again, if ever. Be a nice 15 second youtube clip.

Hillary's 'message'?

Why yes, Clinton clearly alienated the racist Trump supporters and those willing to pretend they didn't notice the racists by calling them 'deplorables'. It was thus her fault those Trump supporters voted for Trump, so whatever bad stuff happens under trump is Clinton's fault, not the people who voted for Trump.

Or maybe he means when Clinton had to be the grown up and point out all those lost jobs are gone for good instead of spinning a feel good fantasy where the clock could be turned back 30 years. Again its her fault for not lying, not the people who chose the fantasy over reality.

On the heels of a visibly awkward visit from the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, Donald Trump said on Saturday that Germany owed “vast sums of money” to Nato and the US, even though the alliance does not stipulate payments to America.

His remarks prompted a former US permanent representative to Nato to reply “that’s not how Nato works”, and to add that increased European spending on defense was not a “favor (or payment) to the US”.

Trump, who was at his Mar-a-Lago estate for the weekend and spending the morning at Trump International Golf Course, sent two tweets early in the day. The first denounced “the FAKE NEWS” for what he said was mistaken coverage of a “GREAT” meeting with Merkel.

...

In a joint press conference on Friday, Trump expressed “strong support” for Nato but reiterated his belief that member nations do not contribute a “fair share”.

“Many nations owe vast sums of money from past years and it is very unfair to the United States,” he said. “These nations must pay what they owe.”

He added: “During our meeting, I thanked Chancellor Merkel for the German government’s commitment to increase defense spending and work toward contributing at least 2% of GDP.”

Trump really doesn't have a clue about what NATO is about.

NATO revolves around "collective defense" and if one or just a few states have a much larger military, taking into account the countries sizes, it easily gives the impression that others are "free-loading" instead of doing their part.

It's not that other NATO members aren't "paying their fair share" it's that most other members don't maintain a military that's proportionally equivalent to those that spend more on defense, taking into account the relative size of said states. Member states that haven't achieved the 2% spending target don't owe the US or NATO money rather they should increase the size of their military both to make NATO stronger but also more fair.

I just also love how Trump tries to portray the US as a victim of other countries. Other countries treat America so "unfair" and so on. Really pathetic.

Germany owes the US vast sums of money?

Is he going to send a bill?

Will this apply to all members?

What politicians care most about is being reelected and Trump's budget probably hurts their chances.
This, very much. He doesn't have a local constituency to please. If the health bill adopts an earlier cutoff date the enhanced Medicaid tap will stop flowing in January 2018. I hope this happens. Ordinary people will have time to see how much this man's promises are worth.

Another potential reason it looks so miserable sitting with Chancellor Merkel is that it can't stand spending any significant amount of time with a woman to whom it's not sexually attracted.
I don't think it's that. I think he just felt insecure.

How do you think Trump reacts when realizing other heads of state know so much more than he does? Including basic competence with the English language? He is extremely uncomfortable in environments where his dominance is not constantly reaffirmed. Even the White House is too challenging for him. There are egos other than his to deal with.

You got that right. Only a mean-spirited bitch would make people face up to the truth rather than lie and promise them a fantasy. No wonder nobody voted for her!

But this is crooked Hillary all over. Deliberately rubbing people's noses in it to force them to vote for Trump, thus making us the "Laughing stock of the World".

Not that you should care, but I just wanted to express my approval of your syntax. :)

Wouldn't he have to have a certain level of basic knowledge to understand how little he knows? He has made ridiculous statements, like "I know more about ISIS than the generals, believe me." When he hears something he doesn't understand, he just tells himself somebody else is wrong.

Or the USA should reduce its military spending to more align with other nation states of NATO.

This probably isn't that far off. The Orange Hair probably went into the meeting thinking he was going to own the meeting and ended up getting schooled my Merkel. She is a formidable intellect and politician and he's not the first male counterpart she's put in their place.

What has gender to do with it, unless you think Trump thought this specifically because she's a woman?
