Russian Ambassador shot in Turkey

Why WW3?

Turkey is going to use this to clamp down on terrorists to pacify Russia (ie anyone not agreeing with Erdogan) and Putin will use this to take revenge on terrorists in Syria (ie anyone not agreeing with Assad). And the US can't act against this as both countries are clearly supporting the war against terror.
Everyone wins.

The shooter will be tied to the popular scapegoat, Fetullah Güllen's alleged parrallel state and terrorist movement FETÖ (only recognised as such in Turkey while it's leader resides in Pennsylvania.

You have that backwards. This would be an anti-Assad terrorist, killing the Russian ambassador because Russia is helping Assad kill civilians in Aleppo. And Turkey is on the other side of that conflict: they support (some of) the Syrian rebels against Assad. I doubt this will lead to direct war, but it absolutely will increase tension, and could spill over into more proxy conflict.

The work of a lone individual will not affect relations between these two states. As an example of popular local sentiment for the people affected by Russian actions in Syria it will present some difficulty for Erdoğan in continuing to sell his new realationship wih Putin, necessitated in part by worsening relations with Europe.

You think Drumpf will commit troops? Wouldn't shock me but I think his M.O. will be to look the other way as Putin runs ruffshod over the planet.

China, too. So long free and open trade in certain parts of the Pacific.

Probably WW3. I'm sure Trump is in contact with his master right now, getting his marching orders.

Will it be direct involvement - or simply turning around while Russia makes mincemeat out of Turkey?

How would Russia manage that?
Apart from capability Turkey is also part of NATO

How Trump tells it:

“Today we offer our condolences to the family and loved ones of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov, who was assassinated by a radical Islamic terrorist," Trump said in a statement.

To state what should be obvious, not all who say Allahu Akbar are terrorists. But we are dealing with a non reflective man who sprays volleys from th hip.

I would say it's pretty radical and terroristic to assassinate an Ambassador.

I'm not looking to float any conspiracy theories, or even speculate about same, but I would still note that it would be a radical terrorist act as long as the assassination wasn't state-sponsored. Different descriptors would apply if it was.

Well with all respect for deceased I think diplomat is 'fairer' game, compared to random civilians. Even more effective, if you want to stand against policy of a state, and not just cause general chaos .. which won't harm the leaders in the slightest.

Key word I ommited was Islamic. Islamic terrorist action is an unevidence characterization at this point.
Aside from the fact that he was recorded invoking the Islamic deity, and making common cause with the anti-Assad revolutionaries in Iraq, you mean.

It may turn out to be an inaccurate characterization, but it seems pretty well evidenced to me.

What's your theory? He said all that ironically? He wasn't a terrorist, he was a hipster?

Putin does appear popular among supporters of the government. Erdogan has appeared to want to be chums with Putin - a huge turn around from the shooting down of the Mig, which has been blammed on Gullenists.

On the other hand many Turks feel strong compassion for the plight of citizens of Allepo. Someone acting alone would not suprise but congratulations from his arrestors would not suprise.

This is unlikely to disturb Russian-Turkish relations much because both countries have been trying to establish normal or even quite close relations.

The main reason behind this is the fact that after the recent failed coup in Turkey the government, lead by the Turkish autocrat Erdogan, took the opportunity to effectively crush any significant internal opposition to his dreams of ruling as all powerful President much like Putin does. The huge purge not only helped exacerbate the ongoing conflict with the Kurds but also caused a gigantic rift between Turkey and it's European neighbors who were appalled at what they saw.

The purge made it readily apparent to European statesmen that Turkey could no longer be considered just a "flawed democracy", which could potentially even join the EU in the future, but rather is no different from thoroughly autocratic states such as Russia and is totally and absolutely irredeemable.

Naturally Russia has no concerns or calms about what Erdogan does to his dissidents as they completely suppress their own, whether through arrests or assassinations. Instead it saw a great opportunity to gain a new ally by exploiting the recent rift between the EU and Turkey. It's easy to see how they could get quite comfortable since The Turkish and Russian autocratic and illiberal governments have many similarities in how they justify their rule, most noticeably their conspiratorial mindset and hatred of the "decedent west".

Within an hour of the assassination, various meme creators made memes about the incident using the famous photograph. Tacky, in my opinion.

It seem impolite to mention them without giving any links. I would like to judge for myself the worthiness of their efforts.
