President Trump

See what he did (and I hate to be an I-told-you-so). During the campaign he got all intense and yelled, "On my FIRST DAY! I'll repeal Obamacare!" And the crowds roared. Had he been honest and said (like John McCain or Mitt Romney might have), "I'll keep the good parts of Obamacare and fix the bad parts..."

There's no roar from the crowd. No one's throwing them red meat. You could have heard a pin drop. You'll "fix" Obamacare, Mr. Trump? So what!

This reminds me of George Costanza on Seinfeld. As George once explained:

Some people are comparing Trump with Adolf Hitler; I'd compare him with George Costanza.

I hope you're right.

The kids (except Tiffany of course) are helming the transition team and staying on as unpaid national security advisors, to skirt nepotism rules. He's been very clear that he was not going to reveal the totality or divest himself of his business interests or any conflicts of interest they create. This is exactly what he promised: unprecedented corruption for personal gain.

You're forgetting that Trump cannot grant a security clearance. As I said, it is illegal for anyone to be granted a security clearance when they have significant contact with foreign governments or business interests. Trump himself can get around that because, as I said, he technically does not hold a security clearance as the President; his kids would be a totally different story, and a violation of MULTIPLE DoD regulations, policies, and laws.

Which will create huge problems for him within the GOP,when his competitors, who have a lot of clout in the GOP, start to complain..which they will.

One can only hope.

Now we are hearing reports that the security clearnece that Trump requested was to allow family members into some areas of the White House. Story is developing.

That makes no sense. The only part of the White House his kids would need to visit is the Family Wing. They should have absolutely no business anywhere else in the White House and should not be allowed in areas where classified information is being discussed.

Have you listened to right wing pundits the last couple of election cycles? "Elitist" is code for "intellectuals". It's anti-intellectualism. The mere fact that you know more than they do -- the pretense that you know more -- is insulting to them. Their feelings, they'll let you know, are just as good, and you don't know where those facts have been! It's a conspiracy to keep the people down.

How the **** do you have a conversation in a climate like this with facts and reason, when those are the very things that so many people despise and fear? You are proposing a solution that isn't on the table.

No actually it isn't, its a group of people who fight to stay in power to enrich themselves. You're welcome!

I travel a lot. I get in my small rv and go everywhere. I throw my golf clubs in the back along with my fishing gear. I also do a lot of hiking and sometimes I just drive. In fact I love to drive. One of my favorite things to do is have breakfast at diners and small town diners are usually the best. The food is almost always great and the people are incredibly friendly. Most of the time though there are farmers or fishermen or loggers saying the worst things about Obama or Hillary or liberals.

I've watched it over time get worse, but still you don't hear the "n" word like I use to back home in Iowa but that was a long time ago. As I said, it's gotten to be much worse after Obama was elected. His election brought something out in many whites. There is this fear that blacks, or Muslims or Hispanics will take it all away from them and I think Obama represented that to them. But the facts have never supported that fear. Obama deported far more people than George W. The drone strikes continue even increased under Obama.

But who I really blame for the divisiveness is the right wing talk radio that dominates the airwaves of most of the country. The outrageous and ridiculous hyperbole and nonstop demonization of the left goes unabated and unanswered. It has had a destructive impact on the divisiveness of the discussion.
Couldn't possibly be that he's been the most left president in many people lives. Couldn't possibly be that Obama threatened their very jobs which means their existence. Why is everything race to so many of you on the left?

Many of those same people voted for the incompetent boob.

2 million only if you're into weasel words.

Stay tuned. It's now up another 20,000. Started out around 450,000 the morning after the election. When the rest of the absentee ballots come in and are counted you can come back and pick out the weasel words for us.

My source was The Atlantic who reported that there are upwards of 3 to 4 million of those uncounted but that they make no difference because they're in states Hilary won, chiefly WA, CA, NY. http://www.theatlantic.com/politics...-popular-vote-lead-will-grow-and-grow/507455/

Egads.

I think it would make a difference because a good chunk of the people who supported Trump are gun rights activists, who firmly and deeply believe that the entire reason for the second ammendment to exist is so that citizens can protect themselves from a tyrannical government. They take that duty seriously, and are very suspect of the government in general. I think that they would be unlikley to sit idly by while the very values that they hold dear are dismantled.

Ok so now you're backtracking to your first answer despite me explaining several times that it's irrelevant to the question!

But ah.. you might insist that he can just disarm them, that firearm owning citizens are no match for a modern military.

See, and now you're right back to actually answering my question. It's like two different people are using the same keyboard.

Would you two go get a room. Your tête-à-tête here is boring.

I don't believe we were addressing you, and we're both allowed to discuss our exchanges here. You can always not read our posts if it bothers you so much.

I better never catch you bickering with another poster in the future.

BS. Even in this very thread the term has been used to describe those who know more than others. It's been like that on right wing shows for a decade at least. You're not fooling anyone.

How much of that is actually claiming that *everyone* who disagrees with me is a racist, sexist, etc, and how much of that is people exaggerating what is said to make it seem like *everyone* is being mocked, rather than a select few? For instance, Clinton called the racist, sexist, homophobic (etc) attitudes of half of Trump supporters "deplorable," and that was spun by the right wing poutrage machine into insulting every singe Republican.

Yes, that's what Clinton said. There's plenty more people claiming "all" etc etc. #NotAll of them do, of course.

It's been a standard tactic to try to use race/sex/-ism as a way to shut down opposition for a while now.

My point wasn't so much who or how many are saying it but what's being said. In my experience most people on both sides can get over ******posting and general banter. Hell, I engage in ******posting and general banter. The difference between banter and being called a racist/sexist/homophobe/etc are that banter tends to be meaningless, whereas the others hold (held?) serious weight.

See, this is the problem Logger. It's impossible to take you seriously when you say things like that. It's not even close.

LBJ, FDR, Nixon and Carter were much more liberal. FDR gave us unemployment insurance, Social Security, and dozens of programs designed to create work and help the poor. Percentage wise his was by far the biggest deficits. Eisenhower had marginal tax rates on the rich over 90 percent. LBJ created the Great Society which included Medicaid, Medicare and Welfare. Nixon signed both the clean air and clean water acts that gave birth to the EPA. Is it because of the ACA you say that? Which is a copy of Romney's health insurance program in Massachusetts. A program that was designed by the Heritage Foundation. The Clintons fought like hell in their first term to pass and even more generous health care bill but failed.

Seriously, why do you say things that have no basis in reality?

And whose jobs did he threaten? Coal miners? Guess, what? They are going down. The dirtiest fuel on the planet is no longer economically viable with Solar dramatically cheaper and a glut of cheap Natural Gas. It ain't Obama's fault that is a dying way of life.

Will you continue your diligent Dow reporting when the market starts to skid?
Lordy

You do realize he is posting that because the left said the Dow would collapse from the Donald's election?

True, logger. I'm also posting it as a direct response to the OP. My posts about the Dow in this thread happen to be more relevant to the OP than just about any other post (including SezMe's).

There, I said it.

Some market reactions so far: S&P futures off 5%. Oil down over 3%, gold up almost 5%, dollar down almost 4% against the yen but up against some other currencies. Mexican peso down almost 12% against the dollar. "Markets are Plunging around the World" says Bloomberg headline. The Nikkei is off 5%, the FTSE (futures) almost 5%. Maybe these are overreactions?

Quoted lest we forget how this thread started.

No, it doesn't mean treating ignorance as if it's just as good as informed reason.

But it needn't come off as elitist.

Allow me to toot my own trumpet for a bit. Pretty much none of you on this forum know anything at all about the insurance industry, actuarial science, or how insurance and pricing actually works. Not a thing. You are all woefully ignorant. The amount of completely bass-ackwards quackery that gets spouted with respect to insurance is shocking. If I took your approach, I wouldn't bother trying to explain and educate. I wouldn't lend some information when it's relevant. I wouldn't provide useful new data to the conversation. I would simply sit back and criticize you all, mock you for being so ignorant, and tell you that your opinions on ACA are so completely idiotic and divorced from reality that it's just not even worth my time to engage with you. I could confidently suggest that you should all keep your ignorant mouths shut and let your betters discuss these things that you clearly don't understand.

Somehow I think that approach would have been less successful that the path I chose.

My additional knowledge of a topic makes me exactly that - more knowledgeable on that topic. It does not make me a better person. It does not give me license to mock those who don't have my knowledge - even if those people refuse to believe what I tell them, even if they insist on sticking to their incorrect information.
I don't know why you think I'm opposed to educating the ignorant. Perhaps you could point out where I said that's a stupid thing to do.

I agree that elitism isn't the way to change minds. But in this conversation, I want trying to change minds about whether Trump is a good candidate.

Like redistricting to keep the darker hued folks from voting? That kind of fighting (dirty) to stay in power?

You mean like trying to con the public into thinking that your family business, which has the name TRUMP all over it can be run by your non-partisan children (who campaigned rabidly for daddy) so you can keep selling your brand? Who'd have ever thought we'd see "Product Placement" being a topic of the morning briefings in the White House?

"Yeah, yeah,... Myanmar is killing more Rohingya today and Russia annexed Mongolia, but how come we didn't have the PresidenTrump logo up in the rose garden when I announced the new deal with the WWE to manage the national forests? You guys are slipping! Sad. Sad."

I wonder how many illegals voted? Do you think it might be in the millions?
