David Wong, Michael Moore (of all people), John Michael Greer and others have all offered explanations of Trump's ballot success that are way more insightful than "it's all racism!"

Mine, from this March, was perhaps less insightful but more concise. Updated a bit:

White Blue Collar Workers and Rural voters have legitimate reason to be angry.
I have been saying for years that so Many Liberals prefer to ridicule them and call them names rather then try to win them over is a major mistake.

Until the heat from his fellow Republicans gets to be too much........

I don't see that happening. The Republicans have been pretty spineless all season, willing to jettison conservative principles for electoral opportunity. Now that Trump has won, I don't see them growing balls. I see them thinking this is the way forward.

I hope I'm wrong, but the number of top Republicans who endorsed Trump is disappointing. Remember when McCain was a principled maverick? Geez.

Wonder if you'll still be enjoying yourself over this in a couple of years.

No way to be sure, but I think things will work out just fine. Trump will (and already has) work like a wrecking ball to the corrupt political machine of which Hillary is a member. There is a big silver lining to having a MSM that will actually not fawn over and cover up for the President, as would have happened for Hillary. Ding Dong, the witch is dead as they say!

Look at what happened with poor Bernie Sanders. Although I was not a fan of his, during the debates, he had to struggle to answer difficult questions about public policy on the spot while Hillary received the questions in advance and only had to recite an answer previously crafted by a team of her well connected crony lawyers. Many more examples of this type of cronyism abound. Well, now they've got to deal with an outsider - The Donald. Reminds me of the fall of Enron...

What makes you think so? Donald doesn't have a history of letting other people telling him what to do.

Donald Jr. wanted to make him an offer nonetheless: Did he have any interest in being the most powerful vice president in history?

When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.

Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?

“Making America great again” was the casual reply.

But median wages have climbed and unemployment has lowered. Rent is cheap in the places that went for Trump. Democrats did exactly what you asked of them.

It's been suggested that due to all his legal problems, his presidency will be paralysed and he'll be in jail within a year. How likely do you [no one in particular] think this is?

Very unlikely. Conceivable that he could be impeached, but doubtful since the Republicans have fallen lockstep behind him.

For now. That will change when and if Donald does something that the Big Donors in the GOP do not like. And he will....

It's worth pointing out that Michael Moore doesn't agree that Trump's success is unqualified.
You must say this sentence to everyone you meet today: “HILLARY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE!” The MAJORITY of our fellow Americans preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Period. Fact. If you woke up this morning thinking you live in an effed-up country, you don’t. The majority of your fellow Americans wanted Hillary, not Trump. The only reason he’s president is because of an arcane, insane 18th-century idea called the Electoral College. Until we change that, we’ll continue to have presidents we didn’t elect and didn’t want. You live in a country where a majority of its citizens have said they believe there’s climate change, they believe women should be paid the same as men, they want a debt-free college education, they don’t want us invading countries, they want a raise in the minimum wage and they want a single-payer true universal health care system. None of that has changed. We live in a country where the majority agree with the “liberal” position. We just lack the liberal leadership to make that happen

For now. That will change when and if Donald does something that the Big Donors in the GOP do not like. And he will....

We'll see. I'd rather you were right, obviously.

Actually, I'd rather the GOP leadership showed an adherence to democratic and constitutional principles, rather than turn on Trump for the sake of donations, but I'll take what I can get.

I predicted Trump would win. :)

Wasn't much point to being here listening to the broken record: "racist, sexist, idiot, lunatic" etc.

lol. Extremely gratifying.

Not to anywhere near the extent that Hillary is

Did you think I wouldn't see the goalposts move? You said:

Trump will (and already has) work like a wrecking ball to the corrupt political machine

I pointed out that, since he's part of the machine, that's very unlikely because the machine can make him very rich. Now you're saying that he's not quite a much in the machine as someone else. That doesn't, I'll point out, counter my point.

Hillary gave a great speech. Best one I've ever heard from her. It's a good thing she couldn't tap that genuine emotion before today.

It's like that old saw about how sincerity is the key to success - if you can fake it, you've got it made. She's terrible at faking it.

Well, if you had been paying attention, you know that he is a Tea Party evangelical Christian who supported Ted Cruz. This guy is not gonna save us from Trump.

You're right. I didn't pay attention to him at all, but that description doesn't surprise me at all.

So it's not as if Pence rather than Trump is much of a positive.
