Hillary Clinton is Done: part 4

It just didn't make any sense that you guys were so damn certain about it. That's what I found astounding the entire time. There were moments when I wavered in my belief that Trump would win, but the Hillary supporters/Trump haters on this board never did. I thought that was really weird, considering that it was clear that Trump was a force to be reckoned with. A little humility/reservation would maybe have maybe softened the blow...

I didn't realize there were so many untapped crazy stupid racists. The polls certainly didn't indicate it.

Political parties are always "fighting the last war". Democrats have just not gotten the fact that a lot of things have fundamentally changed.

They don't understand how Mainstreet Americans think or what their lives are like. There are a number of reasons for this.

I don't know if this is the right time to mention it, since maybe it's kicking a man when he's down, but a few of us have repeatedly mocked Trump supporters, saying "Get used to saying 'Madam President'."

It wasn't a pleasant comment when it was made, but it looks both churlish and foolish now.

Who gives a ****. I make no apology for taunting fools who voted for a clown. They are now going to be subject to my laughter and ridicule.

I may have been wrong. But the US will suffer. Trump voters will sow what they will reap. Disaster.

Sadly true. And it's not only US citizens. This will impact the world economy first. Geo-politics next.

Eastern Europe must be ******** their pants at thought of the Orange Menace allowing Russia to annex to expand it's kleptocracy because he wants NATO to be a protection racket.

The also ran was my choice of Martin O'Malley but I'm being generous giving him that designation. Some people just wanted to see the world burn this cycle and I don't think they've grasped how literal that could get.

Unfortunately for him, there was no room to run to the right of Hillary in the Democratic primaries.

@ lionking: Well, that's what we Democrats get for nominating a Machine politician with a shady record. This was the year of the populist. The GOP listened to theirs, or at least didn't get in the way. the Democrats crushed theirs using GOP tactics and lost the election when they stayed home.

I don't think she ran a terrible campaign. The only gaffe I remember was "deplorables", which was a pretty big gaffe and underestimated in its severity, but I don't think she ran a terrible campaign.

I do think she was a terrible candidate.

Terrible candidate and terrible campaign kinda go together. Her biggest mistake was not taking the email mess seriously and getting it out of the way much earlier. Being the subject of an FBI investigation is not a good look on anyone, even if you're ultimately cleared -- and "we're not pressing charges" isn't the same as being cleared. She also didn't argue aggressively that eight years of Democratic rule accomplished a lot: unemployment cut in half, stock market almost tripled, 20 million people with health insurance that they didn't have before, two wars ended, etc., etc. Thousands of Michigan auto workers have jobs thanks to Obama. Some people are certainly hurting, but a lot of people are better off today than they were at the end of the GW Bush administration, and she didn't make that case against the guy calling America a hellhole.

Yeah...but it will be like a Train Wreck in ultra-slow motion. So slow in fact that the voters won't even realize what Trump did to them until long after he is gone. That's the way it worked with Reagan and Bill Clinton.

Nope. The train wreck impact is already being felt. Have a look at the stock market.

I never thought I'd say this, but Trump will make Reagan look like Lincoln. He is a disgrace to your nation. In four years, or less, the US will apologise for this horrendous mistake. In the meantime, the rest of the world will simply laugh.

We (I include myself) had more confidence in the American voter. Trump's outrageous behavior, his breathtaking ignorance and countless serial lies would have sunk any normal candidate that purported to offer competence and experience. But Trump basically played the role of a pro wrestling villain; everything he did just became part of his character, and the voters enjoyed the entertainment. And the media bought in to it; if they had done real investigative reporting earlier, Trump wouldn't have made it through the primaries.

He'll have us pining for the halcyon days Bush II.

Think they'll do another Benghazi investigation now that Hillary lost? After all, it's about justice, right?

I disagree with the highlighted. If the GOP is able to take advantage of having control of SCOTUS, POTUS, House and Senate to implement wide-ranging voter ID and other voter suppression legislation: If minorities, especially black and Hispanic are excluded from any future economic benefits and thus become functionally disenfranchised even if attempts to actually disenfranchise them fail: There is a very real chance that the poorly-educated, angry old white men can "take back their country" and double down.

If, contrary to my expectation, Trump turns out to be anything other than a terrible President then it's likely that he'll be elected by the same people who elected him this time. Of course they wont yet have their jobs and prosperity and they will have lost their healthcare but that won't have been Trump's fault and so they'll fall for the same lies and promises a second time. If Trump is a terrible president then the same constituency will vote for someone Trump-erer to get the job done.
