Birtherism was just the usual conspiracy theory nonsense.

And Trump rode that nonsense for longer than any other public figure in the US.

It had nothing to do with Obama's race, or the fact that he might be "un-American." It only had to do with the fact that there were loose ends that Obama (probably as part of a deliberate strategy) refused to tie down.

That is just it: there were no loose ends.

And Trump latched on to birtherism in the same way that an Alex Jones latched on to 9/11 trutherism. It was a way to attract attention to himself and nothing more.

And nothing less.

That's too shallow an analysis. I know that Hillary will choose people I don't want for the Supreme Court. I think that Trump will not. I know that Hillary will continue our stupid immigration policies while continuing to ignore illegal immigration. I think that Trump will not. I know that Hillary will try to raise income taxes and estate taxes, and I think that Trump will not. I know that Hillary will move us even further toward single payer health care. I think that Trump will not. I know that Hillary will continue her pattern of corruption and dishonesty in the White House, and that the media will not call her out or investigate her (i.e. the same treatment Obama has received), and I think that Trump will be forced by a watchdog media to play things pretty straight.

So that's how I see things. I've thought about this stuff a little more than you're giving me credit for I think.

Other than the highlighted part which I think is bull feces. We are probably in agreement. With one major caveat...(if she can) Given that she will be limited to the Congress that we may have. I doubt that estate taxes will be increased. I would expect a few points on the upper income brackets which is staggering too low in the US. I also think the immigration issue is grossly exaggerated.

I want a pro choice bench and one that will reverse the nonsense of Citizens United.

It is foreign policy more than anything Trump scares me. Domestic issues are frankly harder to have an impact. The president can get us into a military conflict without the approval of anyone. Trump's ego and stupidity is bound to get us into trouble.

Also, how much more about the origin of Birtherism needs to be discussed? Trump didn't start birtherism so discussions about its origins do not belong in a Trump thread.

I seriously think Trump is the ultimate lucky sperm. A con man with the backbone of a jellyfish. He's a bully which really means he's a cowardly wimp. I find it sad that a man that is as rude, crass and totally lacking in morals is the GOP nominee. It will even be more sad if the nation makes him President.

I wrote a paper in college called "it could happen here". It was how Adolf Hitler was ELECTED and how some day, the US too could elect a leader that would destroy the American democracy. I wonder to this day at what point did the German people think "what have we done".

The pattern you are referring to is Hillary being accused of corruption and dishonesty by cretins with no evidence, that then spend millions in investigations that turn up no evidence, and finally cry that the world is conspiring against them.

I never claimed Clinton was a birther. She's limited in her ability to call Trump out on birtherism when her senior adviser was trying to get her to portray Obama as un-American.
