Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part IV

I think he thinks Hillary is going to o win which is slightly concerning.

He's been pretty bullish on Donald from what I've read despite correctly calling that he's a terrible candidate and person. His take on Donald is especially weird given he was the one that put Palin on the map and championed her case for VP in '08. That one stupid publicity stunt of a VP choice had quite the butterfly effect on today's GOP.

What part of this do you think the majority of Americans reject?

The wall for one.

And it always depends on how the question is worded or what issues you compare. Yesterday's Rasmussen (yes, Rasmussen) poll showed that more Americans favor amnesty and documenting as a solution to cleaning up immigration - than concentrating on the border. This is specifically in relation to what should be the area of concentration. When you re-word it as to what is more important for "immigration reform", a little more than half the country think that border control is important.

More important, though, is the overall attitude and the tone of the Ten Points. He's going with "America First... Build That Wall.... Mexico Will Pay For It.... Lookit These Victims...." He's solidifying his base, not reaching out to new voters.

That's a relief.

Nope. Sounds like he's working hard to win the Arizona Republican primary again. This speech might be longer than his convention speech.

Swiveling back to "all 11 million will be rounded up and deported" is going to neutralize any gain from visiting Mexico and any gain from the speech itself. High Latino turnout will not favor him, and I think Latino involvement in this election will be high. Added to that, there are plenty of white people who don't support him either. My perception may be off: I'm surrounded daily by hundreds of Latino teenagers.

Which reminds me: I simply must have a Trump pinata!

That's a relief.

Bill Kristol: When The Debates Begin, Trump Will Have A "More Defensible, Less Wacky" Position On Immigration

Regarding Trump's "flip-flops" on immigration, Kristol said: "At the end of the day, he will give a speech tomorrow that, if it is at all competant, will have moved him to a more reasonable position on immigration than he was in, and we can be dance critics about the clumsy way he got there, let's give him less points. But at the end of the day, going into the debate on Sept. 26, he will have a more defensible and less wacky position [on immigration] to defend against Hillary Clinton."
He literally said that yesterday.

Where does Bill Kristol fit in?

Good question.

We're working on at least two axes.

Morris and Kristol mostly work on the "wrong" side of the "right/wrong" analysis frame. They try to think about things, but they always drop the ball

Hannity is simply stupid. He's correct more often, but that's because he'll just say whatever's put in front of him. He simply never thinks, ever.

Two different axes.

I'm all for the elderly having hobbies, but let's face facts - Trump is just too damn old to be President. He's like twice the legal age.

I don't think he should even be driving.

I'll give Hannity credit for one thing. He absolutely owns the Gish Gallop.

I actually don't think that's fair.

Not to Trump, but to the many people who could handle being president who are not him.

Also to his credit... He's also managed to turn Juan Williams back into a liberal (by today's standards) Democrat, at least for this election cycle. He may well go back to being Fox's sacrificial bobble-head doll afterwards.

Williams is actually another interesting guy...involved with Eyes on the Prize and so on.

It's remarkable to me how Fox News managed to pull in folks like him, and attach them to absolute fools like Hannity...or Fox & Friends.

I'm hoping their sex scandal destroys it, but as always, I'm cynical.

The problem with Trump is not any singular position on an issue he holds. No, it is the MANY positions he has expressed on virtually EVERY ISSUE. I can't wait for Trump trying to explain them in the debates. Because I don't think he knows just how awfully inconsistent he is.

To be honest, he seems to have no position on most issues. demagoguery seems to work fine for him.

He's hard to pin down on specifics because he doesn't know how to talk to conservatives. His worst gaffes have happened when attempting to talk to conservatives: abortion (woman should be punished), 2nd amendment (2nd amendment people assassinating opponents), raising minimum wage (wages are too high), etc. Demagoguery and "populism" avoids that.
