My worry is that things like this simply don't matter to the election itself. It's painfully obvious what a disastrous President Trump would make and he has been doing his best to reinforce that nearly every day of his candidacy. Nearly everything he says is moronic, a blatant lie, a ludicrous boast or a scurrilous attack on someone. Even the Republican party recognize this.

The problem is enough people in the US can live their whole lives now in an information bubble where reality simply does not intrude. "Plagiarism? I don't know what your talking about. Benghazi!"

The one thing Donald is going to ensure is that everyone he can reach in that news sphere hears about it while he extends its life in the news cycle with unprompted absurd defences. He's going to be on all the shows he can in order to accomplish this goal.

In truth, I don't think most of these things should. I never cared about Michelle's speech and I really don't care about Melania's speech either. I do care what Trump please has to say although he's said enough already.

In fact, I'd posit that when the entire country wakes up wondering what stupid utterance he's made overnight, or what some over-bearing Trump toadie has said or done, you've got a problem. When the Fox pundits have to spend air time arguing over whether the move to put the host delegation, Ohio, in the rear of the hall was insulting, really insulting or somewhat insulting, you have a problem. They're still fighting the primaries because Trump can't give the "I beat them, they have to fall in line" meme a rest.

Trump's campaign has become a joke. Manafort is a god-send. It was one of his top aides who was in charge of fine-tuning Melania's speech. It was Manafort who pissed of Rince and every other RNC guy by basically telling them all to go to hell because "this is a Trump convention, now". When your keynote speakers are all family members because you have no friends who can be trusted to find something nice to say about you and your best supporters are has-been actors and not respected politicians....

It all adds up to Trump is the joke of the day. And the daily screw-ups are carving that impression deeper and deeper in the public conscious. That is not a good position to be in if you're one of the two candidates for the Presidency. The question, as I've framed it before, is no longer whether he loses, but how high the rubble bounces. He can help them lose the Senate. Can he even-out the House? That'd be some self-destruction. Hell, can he hit the auto-destruct button on the whole party?

It isn't so much about Pence but Trump's unbelievable hypocrisy if he continues to attack Hillary on that. Even for a Republican it would display shocking levels of hypocrisy.

That the GOP has finally found a creature that can personify these urges to purge, a man for whom the word “shameless” could have been invented, a bully and a creep, a liar and cheat, a con man and wannabe tyrant, a dedicated loather of individual liberty, and an opponent of the pricelessly important conventions of liberal democracy is perhaps a fitting end.
