Brexit: the referendum

Heartfelt agreement from me.

Vote Early, Vote Often.
I voted, but only once, this morning. The school being used as polling place is at the centre of the main area of residence of non-indigenous population in Scotland, and has a mainly non-white roll of children attending. (A nearby primary school in the same area has NO pupils born in Scotland, and NOT ONE whose primary language is English, out of around 220 pupils drawn from the locality. The largest ethnic group in that school is Romani, of EU origin, speaking Romanian, Slovak or Romani.)

But there were no political representatives of any organisations at the gate of the place where I voted, to greet arriving voters. No posters in windows at all anywhere. Nothing at all to suggest that people perceive a political event of any importance.

Michael Shrimpton...

I remember his name from the Conspiracy Files and David Aaronovitch's Voodoo Histories.
He dabbled in MH370, Madeline McCann (kidnapped and killed by an EU pedophile ring), Comet crash (sabotage) and global warming conspiracy theories.
He's also in favour of torture, when applied to left-wingers, and deeply opposed to the metric system.

If I were him, I'd keep well away from drawing attention to paedophiles, unless being convicted for having indecent images of small boys on a memory stick somehow doesn't count.

By any logical criteria Wales should be over-whelmingly in favour of remaining but all I see everywhere is 'Leave' posters?!?

Also most people I talk to in work favour leaving - one today saying it was because he was 'old labour' and the EU is an elite. I sort of get that but how he rationalises being on the same side as Gove, Boris and Farage is harder to understand - basically he doesn't rationalise it, says he still hates them and it's 'strange bedfellows' but he's still voting 'leave'.

Another said it was because he hated politicians and at least this gets rid of one set of them...

I hope the bookies are right but I fear a narrow 'leave' win followed by chaos, followed by loads of people saying they didn't vote 'cos they weren't sure / couldn't be bothered or that they voted leave and didn't think it would be so bad...

In some ways, a perverse part of me wants leave to win as they might get the blame for the inevitable fiasco.

B-b-but that was a false flag set-up involving MI-whatever, Mossad, the Iliad and the German division of the Illuminati! ;)

All of the above. The local (only just) Welsh farmers are generously subsidised by the EU but they seem to think that not only will their subsidies be retained, or even increased, but they'll get far more for their produce. Of course if the latter is true then it's higher food prices for all of us.

I get the feeling that there are a lot of people who feel that something needs to be dons, Brexit is something so let's do - without any clear idea as to how Brexit would help.

Were it not for the fact that my business would go under, I'd share that sentiment but then again they'd find a way to blame the EU for the fiasco in any case because "Those big meanies in Brussels didn't give us all the benefits of being in the EU without any of the costs or responsibilities".

Indeed the Good Friday Agreement builds on membership of the ECHR.

And I know from people on both sides of the Troubles how porous the borders are.

Yep. Back in the day when my Dad was in the British Army the border region in the south of County Armagh was known as "Bandit Country". More recently some American friends of mine touring the Republic were completely unaware they had crossed the border until they tried to spend Euros in a pub.

I've only seen Leave posters in my little part of Scotland too but not many and I put that down to the small-minded 'loyalist' (read: bigoted Rangers fans) who will vote for anything with a Union Jack on it and oppose anything the SNP are in favour of.

I've never been so anxious about a result .

Whoever wins (please, please let it be Remain :o) Call Me Dave deserves a good solid kick in the fork for putting Tory Party internal politics above the welfare of the country.
