Merged Bruce Jenner admits it............he's a Republican

In other news, old irrelevant guy is seeking attention. Film at 11.

With all due respect to the sanctity of one-liners (hallowed be their name), this whole adventure, of which the "...and I'm a Republican..." is only a part, would be devotion to attention-seeking above and beyond the call of duty.

It's like the person who once posted a thread about getting a sex change operation while in prison when you didn't want or need one, but to get moved to a woman's facility because it was an easier sentence than Sing Sing. (Yeah, there was some sort of thread like that, I swear!)

Personally just seems strange to me that the first thing you would do when losing your shlong is giving an exclusive interview

Yeah sure. An exclusive two hour interview was done for nowt

Imagine if you will that Sir Peter (Snell - you've heard of him, I take it) came out as transgendered. Do you think there might be a two-hour interview on the telly in NZ, were he/she willing to sit for it.

That's about the level of fame/respect that Bruce Jenner, the decathlete, had. (Meh? I was rooting for the other guy in the Olympics, but I'm a contrarian.) He not only smashed the Olympic and World records, but that was a time when the Decathlon was still considered the mark of the "World's Best Athlete". He had some serious respect, a good haircut and took a good photo. Back then he had some good advisers and hadn't taken to marrying into Attention Whore Central. (I kinda hated him 'cuz I was counter-culture and he really was a clone of "The All American Boy".)

Did 20/20 sell out? Yeah, kinda. But if you're the producer of a commercial-sponsored and ratings-driven television show and one of the hottest crossover (from gossip to news) topics in the past few years offers you an interview with the only conditions being... broadcast the full two hours, and I want it to air sometime during the following x number of weeks... Would I, as a business person - even a news-gathering business person - take those conditions? Hell, yes. I'd be fired if I didn't.

I'm starting a betting pool on the date he gets enormous silicone injections into his ass and hips.

Yes, celebs don't get paid for 20/20 (ABC network USA) interviews. (And it was one hour, not two.) If you have proof Jenner made "millions" for the interview, please post it. If he she would have appeared, say, on The Tonight Show (NBC), he she would have gotten union scale, a few hundred bucks.

I'm not entirely sure who that even is, but I do fervently wish that these Kardashians, their spouses, their lovers, their men, their women, their pets, their friends, all of them and theirs, would just vanish into the oblivion they occupied before somehow arriving here. Where did they even come from?! Who are they?! I feel like a few years ago suddenly these dreadful people whooshed into being overnight and showed up on all the tabloid covers. They aren't pop stars, or actors, or politicians. How are they even famous?! Why won't they go away?!?!?!?!? Please, please, please, someone find a way to send them away!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey they really know how to market themselves as the result of a sex tape with a B or C list musician. You have to give them serious credit for that skill.

Bruce Jenner was an Olympic athlete in the 70s. He was on Wheaties boxes and everything. His association with the Kardashians is more recent and largely tangential. He was famous when people had to earn it. Even if he were totally uninvolved with the K-clan his transition would be news.

Not this famous. Sure old people might remember him but he wouldn't exactly be relevant to those under 60.

Idiot MRA (Men's Rights Advocate): Bruce Jenner is transitioning because Kardashian women make “millions flashing tits and arse.”

[W]ho in their right mind would want to change from a rational male into becoming a hormonal, narcissistic, self-serving, female and then tell the whole world that they are doing just that...

[M]ost of the family that he has been involved with has made millions, all the women that is, from flashing tits and arse. …

So Brucy boy feels left out or his rescinded psychological issues are finally breaking through as he watches his funds shrink while the “Flesh Flashers” are raking it in hand over fist. What to do and what level of really weird **** could Bruce possibly think of to better them. Oh I “lightbulb” know. I’ll change into one of them. That should rake in the dollars right there, right.

Meanwhile back in reality, Bruce Jenner’s net worth has been estimated at $100 million, with most of it coming from business ventures, not reality TV appearances, so I doubt if needs the money.

Not that strange. The media has always had an interest in trans issues. It's shifted away from covering trans people as a sideshow (Renee Richards), to focusing more on contemporary interest in trans rights and visibility thanks to people like Janet Mock, Isis King, and Chaz Bono.

Bruce Jenner certainly is not the first or last person to talk to media about their transition story. If you follow the LGBT news, you might have noticed similar interviews with film producer Lana Wachoski, singer Laura Jane Grace, actress Laverne Cox, and activist Jazz Jennings. And before that, Kim Petras circulated through the media to talk about her story and issues surrounding trans young adults more generally.

Simultaneously, within the past 5 or 10 years, trans issues in law have appeared in almost all US states, particularly with regard to employment discrimination, trans people in prisons, and trans accommodations in schools. There is certainly a lot of media coverage in this area as well.

Bruce Jenner's decision to give an interview about their transition is neither new nor novel, but comes with the territory of being a public figure and the media's well-established interest in trans peoples lives.
