I don't deny the possibility of its existence, I deny the actuality of its existence.
That's something we can both agree on.

This could be resolved by showing us an actual bigfoot.People here are trying hard to convince themselves and each other that this animal doesn't exist.
You guys have successfully turned the belief that Bigfoot doesn't exist into a quasi-religion.
I'm pleased you see that you agree while a possibility, footie isn't an actuality. This is real progress. That's something we can both agree on.
The idea of people genuinely believing in this animal is too much...
Here is what Darren said about the yeti in another column (and I'm sure he would say something similar about Bigfoot):
http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/tetrapod-zoology/2013/08/04/cryptozoologicon-yeti-teaser/
The part I want to discuss:
"This is the only logical interpretation if we choose to imagine all ‘wildman’ sightings and lore as encounters with real creatures.
If, however, these sightings and lore combine mistakes, hoaxes and wishful thinking with the seemingly universal human belief that there have always been wild creatures or spirits that are somehow intermediate between people and the rest of the natural world, it is wisest to interpret all or most ‘mystery hominids’ as a sort of socio-cultural phenomenon that has been mistakenly ‘de-mythified’ by cryptozoologists. In view of the continuing lack of good evidence of any sort for Yetis and other mystery hominids, the latter is our preferred option."
I would agree with his opinion here. Note that he does not reduce it all to gaming (lies). He argues that some people "choose to imagine," not "choose to lie" about the existence of wildmen. Note he says the lore "combines mistakes, hoaxes and wishful thinking" with "seemingly universal human belief" in human/non-human intermediates and this lore is best understood as "socio-cultural phenomenon." He does not reduce Bigfootville to an overriding gaming explanation.
There's nothing interesting going on in Bigfootery lately. It's boring.
We know the situation is desperate when people keep responding to OS's one note song.
50-year-old Randy Savig, a disabled researcher from Missouri, told Cryptozoology News that he has been investigating the Bigfoot phenomenon for over three years.
Savig said last Thursday that he was "invited to do some research" in an undisclosed area in central Oklahoma when he captured the sounds.
The released file, uploaded to YouTube and lasting about three minutes, includes a series of apparent animal sounds exhibiting a fluctuation in pitch and volume resembling primate vocalizations.
"These vocals were recorded over a couple hours time frame," said Ravig, who reportedly used a parabolic microphone to capture the data.
But, according to Savig, the sounds get interesting at the 2:33 mark.
"I wish they would have done more of these vocals as I find them a strange mix of mournful cries and screams."
Well, the odds of a new hoaxer milking for follower's cash like Creekfreak or Bulletmaker/Tornado arriving here, I guess they are pretty slim. They should know better by now. Its too risky for them here, just like it is for bigfootery high clergy. I bet 100 Quatloos they do read this forums and are also members. No doubt about that. It looks like the 'footers have finally run out of imagination.

We need another Creekfreak. Chris is giving it his best shot but he's not remotely in the same league.

“Hear” is a section of the Cook County Forest Preserve system, which in 1967 was bordered by the then world’s busiest airport, the nation’s second largest city, and about six million other people. Some of these millions used and still use these preserves for corporate and family picnics, hiking, boating, fishing, scouting activities, fornicating, illegal grow operations, illegal hunting of small game and deer, legal cropping of that overpopulated ungulate, and myriad wildlife studies. Among lots of other things. Night and day.LakeCountyBigfoot said:Another that came in from my little slice of bigfoot heaven hear....
What is the difference between "choose to imagine" and "choose to lie"?
The National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation reports results from interviews with U.S. residents about their fishing, hunting, and wildlife watching. This report focuses on 2011 participation and expenditures of persons 16 years of age and older.
No doubt about that. It looks like the 'footers have finally run out of imagination.

Just look at the number of people in the woods hunting, fishing, and bird watching.
The number of people, the number of trips, the money spent.
It's staggering.
And it doesn't cover anywhere near all of the people and trips.
Still no good pics of bigfoot, no bigfoot shot, and no useable evidence or sign.

A new survey should be out in 2016?
The average person is not sharp enough to see bigfoot, you have to be mighty acute to spot him. Not to put too fine a point on it but only the elite get the bigfoot vision.

According to BFF mythology, you can't see something if you're not looking for it, even if it's a 9-foot-tall hairy monster. However, all those thousands of bigfoot sightings mean North America is riddled with them, even in suburban Chicago... so I guess people can see things after all.
It doesn't make much sense once you think about it, just like bigfoot in general.
