White House Deleted Some RNC Emails

Would Cheney as President be any kind of upgrade? I kind of doubt it.
More likely that it wouldn't change much in terms of the administration's overall policy. More than likely, President Cheney would select a VP and then step aside, time allowing.

If Cheney left office first (via impeachment or any other means), then Bush would select a new VP (with Senate approval, right?). Then if Bush left office, that new VP would become president.

Could this happen? ... no, too improbable...

Well, yes, that would be the other side of it and, yes, there is a Congressional approval process. I'm not sure if it is just Senate or not.

UPDATE: The RNC agrees to defy the subpoena.

The RNC deferred yesterday to White House requests that all documents from administration officials who used RNC e-mail accounts first be reviewed by Bush's lawyers. Congress has requested several years' worth of e-mails from top White House advisers, including Karl Rove, as part of its investigation of the prosecutor firings. In letters to the House and Senate Judiciary committees, an RNC lawyer said those documents belong to the White House.
"Recognizing the unique and significant nature of the potential privilege issue raised by the committee's requests, the RNC has agreed to the White House's reasonable request," Robert K. Kelner, an RNC lawyer, wrote to Conyers.

There's that talking point again: "reasonable".

I realize that there is a certain degree of corruption in every bureaucracy, but I guess I had always assumed that it was for personal gain. When did "what's good for the country" get replaced with "what's good for the party"?

This is the problem with represenative rulers be they monarchs (who are supposed to represent the country) and elected officials. Once in power they act to preserve thier power and sometimes they forget the best intrest of the country.

UPDATE:

(This could warrant its own thread)

http://rollcall.com/

FBI raids the home of Rep. John Doolittle (R).

FBI Raids Doolittle's Home: The FBI has raided the Northern Virginia home of Rep. John Doolittle (R-Calif.), according to Congressional sources. No details are publicly available yet about the circumstances of the raid, but Doolittle and his wife, Julie, have been under federal investigation for their ties to the scandal surrounding imprisoned former lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Doolittle was implicated in the Duke Cunningham scandal and it was the same day Lam informed DOJ that Doolittle was under scrutiny that Kyle Sampson wrote of the "real problem we have now with Carol Lam".

Sidenote:

The USA in charge of investigating Doolittle and Rep. Jerry Lewis (R) was from Los Angeles. She was not fired. Instead, she was given a lucrative contract to go work in the private sector.

Anyone want to guess who's a client of her new firm?

Probably, since this doesn't have anything to do with the White House deleting emails.

Ah, but they are absolutely related. Carol Lam was fired because she was getting too close to this whole K Street ring. The "deleted" emails in question relate to the internal discussions of how and when and why Lam would be fired. So the fact that Doolittle was just popped anyway relates in a very fundamental way to the whole Attorney Purge/ Missing Emails/ Jack Abramoff issue.

Hi! There is a bunch of discussions in other threads in light of the fact that Clinton set up a private emails that Republicans do it too!

So I thought I would bump this actual thread about Republicans did it too!

"impeachment purge" Interesting tags, say what?

Tu Quoque Bump for 10 Internet Points. Thanks for bringing this horrific tradgedy back into the light.

Thanks man! I expected the tu quoque arguments, and was not disappointed.

Lo and behold a whole thread devoted to the argument "bu-bu-Bush" for their posting pleasure.

And this is exactly why politic in the US will not evolve anytime soon, and so many people get disenfranchised and see both party as irresponsible ********.

Rather than admit an error and push for it to not happen it again, both "fan" of both party search for an older identical error that the other party did.

Both repucrate and demoblican do it frankly.

Well, Clinton's spinmeister's immediate response was to say that Powell (but NOT Condi Rice) did it too. It wasn't the "fan" it was Clinton's own people.....

I think the reason this thread was brought back from the dead was to show the inconsistent reaction from members of this forum regarding the Clinton email thing.

While pointing out the exact same thing from the Republican side. That was the previous point made by Aepervius. It's all finger pointing, especially in this case.

While 16.5 scored internet points for bumping this thread, there's also something else I noticed. A remarkable silence on behalf of the Republican party supporters, while now they're squawking like chickens. I won't point out the differences between the duration of time, the fact that Hillary is handing over emails, none of them were lost, it wasn't 5 million, it wasn't an entire party working to cover it up that included the white house, and so on.

Aepervius's fact remains. It's finger pointing, and despite this thread bump, it does more to harm 16.5's point than it does to help.
