Neutral! My position is and always has been it is for the Italian justice system to try this case in accordance with its own laws, if the process ended with Raffaele and Amanda being acquitted, so be it. It’s not my fault that a number of people here seem to have decided they are as good as convicted.
Let us try this. . . .
We have four actors here
Sally, a British student that decides to go to the University of Washington
Beth, a US Student from Virginia who also decides to go to the University of Washington
John, a Washington State native going to school for computer engineering hoping to go to work for Microsoft
Dwain, lives in Washington state not in school. His family original came from Jamaica. He is black while the other three are white.
Sally and Beth both share the same apartment off campus. There may be some minor disagreement. They also smoked a bit of pot, not uncommon in Washington state.
Sally due to her cool British accent gets a job at a pub. Also somewhere along the way she meets John and they have a romance.
One day Beth gets raped and murdered with Sally and John discovering the body. Sally is considered a bit strange by the Seattle cops with his customs from UK which makes their alarm bells ring. They are interrogated by the police over several days. After a long interrogation, Sally gives some sort of weak confession implicating her boss as the pub. Both she, John, and the pub owner are arrested.
Later, through an e-mail Dwain confessed to not committing the murder but witnessing the murder. He does not finger either Sally or John but states that it was some sort of mystery killer. He fled to Canada and Canada extradites him back after Washington agrees to no death penalty.
At the same time, the owner of the pub has an airtight alibi which the cops have to reluctantly accept. He is freed.
Sally and John however are tried for murder. There is no real evidence against them and they have a reasonable alibi. Maybe not an absolute ironclad alibi but still fairly solid. You think they are almost certainly innocent. Still, the jury finds them guilty. Washington state does not like the Death Penalty so they get life imprisonment.
Are you arguing that you would not be pretty angry at the US for imprisoning an almost certainly innocent British girl even though it was
in accordance with Washington State laws?
