Proof of Immortality II

Actually, we disagree on almost everything. As you know, the advance probability of getting Jabba in particular is low, the advance probability of getting someone is high. Using the former as proof is the Texas Sharpshooter...
- You just stated what I claim to be our basic disagreement. I think that I am set apart you guys think not.

As to you disagreeing. That is what makes you wrong. It is not a question which is just an opinion. There are facts that determine who is right and who is wrong. Why bother with all this meaningless sidetracking that underscores how little you understand statistics. Just declare that you be believe in reincarnation and disagree with us.
- at this point, all I'm trying to do is identify our basic disagreement -- what I think is our basic disagreement.
- At this point I think that you guys just don't understand what I'm trying to say, and basically agree with me re our basic difference.

You refuse to address the basic disagreement.

viz.

The thing for which you are claiming immortality has not been shown to exist.

If that's genuinely what you think then the kindest thing that can be said in response is that you have not the faintest clue about what the last two year's worth of this discussion have entailed.

You been told repeatedly that we understand what you're saying. We just don't accept it because it's wrong!

Please stop posting nonsense. The likelihood of your existence is incalculable because we have only one data point - that you exist. Since the current model predicts that you will exist (or allows for it), there is nothing to question.

There is no prior information, there is no new information.

There are just two choices:

1. A model for which there is consistent evidence which allows for your existence has allowed for your existence.

- or -

2. A model, for which there is no evidence whatsoever, allows for your existence.
LL,
- So, you agree about what our basic disagreement is.

Dave,
- if I am not set apart, I am just something. And, something does exist. The likelihood of something existing is 1.00.

I am he as you are he as you are me
And we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun see how they fly
I'm crying

No, seriously . . . I am crying.

Jabba- I don't wish to speak for anyone else, but here's where we (you and I) disagree: There is a difference in likelihood of you (meaning the collection of atoms that makes up your body) and the "you" that you are talking about (which is not a thing, but is instead a process.) I absolutely claim that the probability of "you" (the one you're talking about) is 1--the only "you" that you could be. That's because it's an ongoing process and not a thing (like your body, for instance).

The likelihood of you (meaning the collection of atoms that is you, but not the one you're really talking about) is definitely 1/a very small number. Though I contend that that number gets quite a bit smaller as we move away from the bingeing of time, to the beginnings of the solar system, to the beginnings of life, and to the evolution that's brought us to where we are today. Humans exist in large numbers, (and did so when your parents had the relations that resulted in your existence) so it's not at all unlikely that you exist.
Jond,
- I understand. We agree upon what our basic disagreement is.

Remember that analogy Mojo gave of 20 people in a room who know there is a 20-sided die in the next room with each of their names on one side, and that the person whose name comes up when it's thrown will be invited into the next room?

We think that, once we have been invited into the next room, we should not be surprised to find that our name is on the uppermost side of the die because the probability of finding it there is now 1.

You are astonished to find your name on the uppermost side because you think the chances of finding it there are still 1 in 20 even after you've been invited into the room.

That is our basic disagreement.
